Erm, I suck with intros so let's just scrap the whole thing k? Gogogogoggoo
The Game
The players:
PlayGrrrr...: Some say he's the real deal, others say he's just an imposter posing as the well known Grrrr.... I say, who cares? The guy's got 1337 S-K-I-I-L-Z ^^. Anyhow, Grrrr...'s known by many for his ability to kick mucho ass with the protoss warriors, he has won many tourneys in the past and is still an active player (I think), although he's not what he used to be =[.
TheWinD[NC]: I have absolutely no idea who this guy is, except for the fact that he's in [NC]. So if he's good enough for TheMarine and Yellow, then I guess he's good enough to entertain us, right?
The map:
The game shall take place on neo Forbidden Zone. It has 4 starting points, one in each corner. Each starting point is on high ground, so it's like an island map but once you get to low ground, you can access the whole map. There are 3 expansions (minerals and gas) in the middle of the map and each player has a natural expansion (minerals and gas) relatively close, although it is on low ground, meaning you need a transport first. By the way, the black figure in the middle of the map is NOT a gap, units can walk on it.
Early Game
PlayGrrrr... warps in a protoss nexus at the bottom left position while TheWinD[NC] spawns a hatchery at the top right position. Grrrr... warps a pylon at 9 supply, followed by an assimilator which also starts at 9 supply. Once he reaches 10 supply, he starts a gateway, followed by a cybernetics core at 14 and a stargate at 17, apparently going for corsairs. As for TheWinD, he spawns an overlord at 9 supply, followed by a hatchery at 12, an extractor at 11 and a spawning pool at 12 and a lair as soon as possible. He then starts a hydralisk den while Grrrr... starts a robotics facility. Ok, so Grrrr...'s going for corsairs/reavers while TheWinD is going for hydralisks. So far so good.
Grrrr...'s first corsair pops out and immediatly starts hunting down overlords, killing 1 stray overlord. All the while, TheWinD morphes a spore colony inside his main. 2 corsairs arrive at the zerg hive cluster and start attacking an overlord until they are chased away by the spore colony and a lone hydralisk. They turn back in hopes of finishing off the overlord but fail once again, losing one of their own in the process. While all of this is going on, TheWinD is upgrading overlord transport, hydralisk speed and +1 hydralisk damage while PlayGrrrr... starts a support bay while constantly pumping corsairs.
Once his overlord transport upgrade is done, TheWinD loads up 8 hydralisks and heads towards low ground. Corsairs start attacking the overlords as soon as they exit the base, fortunatly for TheWinD though, his hydralisks unload before Grrrr... has time to do any major damage. The corsairs are chased off while the hydralisks proceed towards the enemy main. TheWinD starts researching hydralisk attack range and also expands to both his natural and the top right expansion in the middle while Grrrr... expands to the bottom right main.
TheWinD loads up 4 hydralisks in an overlord and heads south to do some expansion hunting. The hydralisks are dropped in the bottom right main and start attacking the still warping expansion until 6 corsairs and a speed upgraded shuttle with 2 reavers arrive to the scene, eradicating the zerg presence. Back at the zerg main, a spire is almost done morphing.
A rather long stalemate settles as both forces are busy with their economy. TheWinD is busy powering while Grrrr... fortifies his expansion and upgrades scarab damage.
Finally, Grrrr... heads out with 7 corsairs and a shuttle full of reavers, apparently aiming to destroy an expansion or two. Unfortunatly for the protoss executor, TheWinD has overlords pretty much everywhere, quickly revealing the protoss threat. Mere seconds were all it took for TheWinD to react and send in his scourges to squelch the threat. He is able to destroy the shuttle with both reavers still inside while the corsairs prove to be more of a match, killing all 6 scourges and running away from the hydralisk reinforcements without losing any of their brethren. The fleet of corsairs patrols the map for a while, killing any stray overlord it meets. Back at the protoss main, a fleet beacon, a stargate and a robotics facility can be seen warping in. Maybe we'll get to see some gayweb action ^^.
While they patrol the map for any hostile beings, the corsairs find themselves under attack by a wave of corsairs. Some good old micro saves a part of Grrrr...'s patrol group but the scourges manage to take out 4 corsairs none the less. The three remaining corsairs run off towards the only protoss expansion on the map but are ambushed by a group of hydralisks, taking down yet another templar warrior. 2 corsairs are all that's left of Grrrr...'s once fearsome fleet.
RECAP
Grrrr... currently has 2 corsairs, 4 reavers and 4 zealots. His air upgrades stand at 0/0/1 (armor/shield/attack). He has 2 stargates and 2 robotics facilities and is mining from 2 locations.
TheWinD currently has 19 hydralisks. His hydralisk upgrades stand at 0/1 (armor/attack) and he is currently upgrading air carapace. He has 4 hatcheries and is mining from 2 locations because 1 drone on his third expansion doesn't exactly count as "mining".
Mid-Game
Both players decide that it's time to expand. TheWinD expands to the top left natural expansion and the top left middle expansion while Grrrr... expands to his natural expansion. (I'll show you minimap later to clear things up :P)
TheWinD finds it unacceptable that Grrrr... wishes to expand as well and rams his expansion with mucho hydralisks. The swarm collides with 2 reavers and 3 zealots. Grrrr... tries his best to fend off the attack with what he has as he aims his scarabs at strategic points (the center of the group) so he can cause as much damage as possible but even the powerful reavers aren't enough to stop the Zerg onslaught as the Protoss expansion is razed by the 9 remaining hydralisks before even coming online.
Desperatly in need of an expansion, Grrrr... heads out towards the only unoccupied middle expansion with ~10 corsairs and a shuttle containing 3 probes. Suddenly, the Protoss executor finds himself under attack by a control group of mutalisks and a control group of scourges. The scourges manage to take out a few corsairs while the mutalisks soak up the damage. Unfortunatly for TheWinD, mutalisks tend to die very quickly to corsairs... only 5 mutalisks manage to survive the onslaught, although badly damaged. On a brighter note, Grrrr... finally expands to the top left main while TheWinD expands to the bottom right natural expansion.
Moments later, yet another skirmish between Grrrr...'s corsairs and TheWinD's mutalisks and scourges erupts. The only difference is that this time, the Zerg fleet is rocked even harder than the first time. ~8 corsairs (who are now at 0/0/2 in upgrades) are all it took to eradicate a control group of mutalisks and a few scourges while only losing 2 corsairs. Poor poor cerebrate. Back at the Protoss base, something interesting can be seen warping in from the stargates... CARRIERS!. Two carriers to be more precise. Yep, Grrrr... is getting carriers to fight off the Zergies ^^.
In a kick your opponent while he's down fashion, Grrrr... loads up 2 reavers and heads out towards the top left natural expansion. The reavers are met with no resistance as they start pounding on the hatchery and the few drones that can be seen mining. TheWinD sends 8 mutalisks to squelch the threat but they arrive too late as the whole expansion is leveled. He does manage to destroy both reavers and the shuttle though so it's not that big a loss. Just a few seconds later, corsairs appear on the horizon. What happens next is pretty interesting to watch. Ok, so 8 corsairs want to pick a fight with 8 mutalisks. The mutalisks run away cuz they know what happened to the other mutas :O. Grrrr... chases TheWinD's mutalisks. So far so good for the Protoss executor. That is, until scourges start to come from all sides. 2 waves of scourges to be more precise. The first wave softens up the corsairs since they almost all got hit by at least 1 scourge. And then the second wave of scourges comes from behind while the corsairs are busy fighting the mutalisks. Let's just say Grrrr...'s corsairs are in mucho pain k? Anyhow, the 3 remaining corsairs run off to the relative safety of the bottom right expansion. The Zerg hive cluster is saved once again by some sweet scourge micro :).
What follows is one hell of a lot of confrontations which happen simultaniously, so if any of it seems screwed up, please don't hold it against me =/. Ok, so... TheWinD goes on the offensive and once again aims for Grrrr...'s economy, choosing the upper left main expansion as his next target. Over a dozen mutalisks come clashing into the heavily defended expansion, and apparently, 6 cannons just can't cut it against the overwhelming numbers of mutalisks as they fall one after another, leaving the expansion in ruins. While all of this is going on, Grrrr... is holding his own offensive against the right middle (I know it's hard to understand but work with me here) expansion, utilizing the superior range and power of his 2 carriers. The expansion is eventually pummeled, but so are the carriers. As for the mutalisks, they are greeted by a squad of corsairs just moments after they destroy the nexus. They, of course, run away but the Protoss executor follows them deeper into the Zerg hive cluster, having apparently forgot what happened last time. Oh and by the way, in the midst of all this chaos, Grrrr... starts warping an expansion at his natural. Anyway, back to the fighting: corsairs follow mutalisks, mutalisks run like pussies, scourges arrive and corsairs blow the hell up. Yep, same thing as last time, only cooler. And that's not all, TheWinD also tries his luck against the new Protoss expansion by sending 3 hydralisks to do his dirty work but what he didn't know is that 3 hydralisks vs 2 cannons isn't a pretty sight if you're rooting for Zerg. Hmmm, what else? Oh yeah, the surviving corsairs (~ half a dozen) keep running after the mutalisks (they never learn...) until being chased off by freshly spawned scourges. Finally, the 12 remaining mutalisks decide to show those corsairs what they're made of by morphing into devourers (yaye!).
RECAP
Grrrr... currently has 7 corsairs and 1 carrier with his air upgrades standing at 0/0/3. He has 5 stargates (nice huh?) and is mining from 2 locations.
TheWinD currently has 12 devourers, 14 scourges and 1 mutalisk. His air upgrades stand at 2/0 (armor/attack). He has 6 hatcheries with 3 expansions to support his army.
Late Game
Grrrr... goes on a hunt for overlords. He runs into a few scourges here and there, no biggie. That is until a squad of scourges and LOTS of devourers arrive on the scene. What follows may not be suitable for some viewers:
Grrrr... loads up 2 reavers and destroys the bottom right natural expansion while TheWinD morphs his mutalisks into guardians! Yep, the Zerg cerebrate must revert to the tried tested and true strategy of going mass guard/devo. The guardians start pounding on the Protoss natural expansion as soon as they can. Grrrr... tries his best to stop the attack with 2 corsairs, a carrier and a few cannons but is for some reason unable to scratch the army. Wonder why... With his pride and base lying in ruins, the Protoss executor concedes the game and TheWinD[NC] is the victor!
Well, I hope you liked my report. I'll probably try getting a few more reports about games that weren't played on lost temple. Well, later all and leave mucho comments thx ^^. Oh and don't forget to watch the replay!
