Commander Octavian stood listening to the waves on the beach with his arms spread apart. It was a rare thing for a pirate to be found in such peaceful surroundings, especially with his guard down. He knew he should be leaving now to rendezvous with the carrier, but he didn’t care. He just wanted to stand there, with nothing to bother him. No raids, no guns, no annoying Moltke. Most pirates didn’t mind that stuff, he knew. It was their nature to be tough and unbreakable. He could cope with it, he could understand it and he could even ignore it sometimes. But being human, even for just a few short seconds, was a pleasure to him. A sudden beep brought him back to reality. Drat, he thought as he pulled the comm system off his belt. “Tango 7 here,” he said. “T7, this is command. We are preparing to move. Do you have your objective?” “Affirm, command. I am preparing to depart now.” “Check, move as fast as possible so we can get out of here.” He put the comm system away without bothering to acknowledge. He turned his face to the wind once more, took a deep breath and then turned and walked up the beach to Heidi's waiting Shuttle. Once he reached the ship he put his hand on a small panel beside the cockpit and the cover slid up. He climbed into the ship and closed the cockpit cover. With a low growl from the engines the Shuttle lifted off and accelerated slowly. He didn't want to wake Heidi. Smerking, he turned his head looking over his ejection seat into the captians quarters. She was still asleep, nude, her legs apart and tangled within the stained silk sheets. Several minutes later, the Shuttle came into sight range of the SLR attack carrier. As his ship approached, the comm system started and a message flashed across his comm screen. “Identify and submit security codes,” said the computer. Octavian typed in an access code and the computer began to transmit a lengthy identification/clearance code that would take years to write by hand. A few moments later the message “Identity confirmed. Cleared for docking.” flashed across the comm screen. His ship swerved and slowed down as it entered the shorter-than-recommended landing strip of the carrier. Once he was in and secured he climbed out and brought the small box that had been hidden behind Heidi's headboard. Still sleeping he looked down at her nude body. He had always thought of her as one of the best shuttle pilots in the the fleet. Now he had a new respect for her being the best ____ in the fleet. He hoped his fingers not to cold as he rolled her dark nipple with his fingers. He kissed her lips that still looked tender from their night of pashion. Running his other hand in her short red hair, he whispered, "Heidi, we're back and I've got to make the drop. See you in a bit." Octavian jogged along a narrow passage up to the tactical room. The cold, gray door that led to tactical looked just like all the others along the hallway, just like every other door on the carrier. He stood straight and tall as he waited for the door to open. After a few seconds the door slid open and he entered the room behind it. The room was Spartan; it contained nothing more than a holotable and enough chairs for the tactical officers. Everything was painted in drab military gray. “You have objective 7a?” asked Warding, one of the tactical officers. “I do, sir.” “Let us have it.” Octavian handed the box over, and it was opened by Warding “Very good. Dismissed.” Octavian turned and walked out with military precision. Once the door closed behind him he relaxed and sighed. Looking at his watch he thought, maybe she was still in bed. His footsteps echoed as he 'ran' down the hall. “The operation if proceeding as planned?” “Yes, sir.” “You have not had a failure or setback?” “No, sir.” “What about the loss of our outer patrol group guarding our object retrieval ship?” “I assure you we covered that up. The Protoss and Terrans know nothing of our plan.” “Very good. Dismissed.” The Terran council was assembled and in the middle of a heated argument. “I’m telling you we must hit the now and we must hit hard!” “And lose a massive number of ships in the process?” “They have been destroying many of our ships without losing more than a few!” “I believe we must simply defend ourselves. Engaging a large number of SLR raiders would do quite a bit of damage to our fleets.” “But it would also hurt them.” “You think.” “I believe we should hurt them as hard as possible.” “This is stupidity! I for one will not sacrifice valuable ships and people for nothing!” “And you do not need to. I am hereby calling this meeting to an end. For now we will merely increase defensive patrols.” Octavian lay on his back in the very small room that served as his quarters. He found himself thinking of Heidi. Falling in love was something he didn't want at this time...with love came feelings. How did she do all those tricks? Double jointed in the hips...had to be. Why did Wardind want her to fly Protoss sensor sweeps...hummm...I wonder? he thought. He fell asleep, wondering. Something kept bothering him about the whole thing but he couldn’t figure out what it was. “As far as I can tell from this the Terran sensor net has no big weaknesses.” “That is where you are wrong. Here, on the most distant weak area.” “You really think we can pull this raid off?” “Yes.” “Well, it is your Battle group, sir.” “Exactly. Go prepare it for a raid.” “Yes, sir.” Octavian jogged down the hall to the fighter bay. Klaxons sounded as lights flashed. Explosions roared outside. Suddenly the ship lurched, sending him flying down the hall as the artificial gravity shut down. The Klaxons shattered and the sirens stopped. Octavian slammed his head against the bulkhead and saw his blood floating off down the hall. As he tried to get a hold on something the computers voice shouted, “Hull breach, oxygen level dropping!” Octavian felt himself being sucked down the hallway toward the breach. An Ion beam ripped through the already heavily damaged bulkhead. Everything went black as he was ripped out into space… Octavian rolled out of bed, gasping for air. Klaxons and sirens really were going off, and the ship really was lurching. Then the Captains voice came over the speakers, “We have been ambushed by a Terran Battle group. All pilots report to Wraith fighter bays immediately.” Octavian got onto his feet and pulled on his flight suit and boots. Then he ran as fast as he could to get to the fighter bay. Unlike in his dream, he reached the fighter bay without incident. He climbed into his old 'A' model Wraith and closed the cockpit. “RED Wing, launch! Yellow Wing, launch! Green Wing, launch!”
