"At home four zealots came wandering past my choke point, took one look at the wallin, asked T_Mac for danger pay, didn't get it, and contented themselves with scouting my natural and then going on strike for better wages. I think they might be still there, waving signs and chanting 'For Hire!' Alright, so that pun sucked. Work with me here people. It's past midnight." -Fractal_Wave

Tyler Pannucci was lying in a field of tall, bright green grass in a Washington D.C. public park. His head rested in his hands, and he was in a deep state of relaxation. He began thinking about his wife, Carly. He missed her so much; he could almost feel her lips against his own.
As he pondered in his deep thoughts, he began nodding off, slipping deeper and deeper into sleep. The wind blew strong across his face, and he dreamed of his wife's hand across his cheek. A small grin showed through his stern lips. His wife was all but there with him. She was a tall woman, about 5' 6 1/2" with long brown hair and dark green eyes. In his dream, they were in a field, the same field he is lying in now, walking and cuddling. He could see her green eyes, full of love and happiness, looking into his. Her hair blowing in the wind, waving like a calm ocean tide.
Dreams were the only way he could escape the harsh realities of being a "watcher". Watchers are a very underground, secret group of elite citizens, working for the government. Their job is to patrol a crisis and make sure citizens don't know the WHOLE truth. He was also there to keep an eye out for anything suspicious, and to investigate it, if found. For this purpose his badge said FBI, and not GW (Government Watch).
He also dreamed in order to be closer with his wife, who was shot and killed when a terrorist gang invaded the Pannucci house last December. He was knocked unconscious, by a gun butt to his head, and when he awoke, he came to find his wife in a pool of blood on the floor, next to him. He didn't catch much before he went out. The only thing he remembered about that night was a large scar across one man's right eye. He didn't think about that when he awoke though. He could only think of his wife, who was dead. He knelt and mourned next to her lifeless body.
Carly was a well known, and respected lawyer in D.C., and was well liked by all of her co-workers. There was a large wake, and funeral, which was occupied by the majority of the city's citizens.
Tyler laid so peacefully in his slumber, dreaming about Carly. He dreamed of him and his wife, in that same field, holding each other, facing each other. They closed their eyes, brought their lips closer together until they finally touched..........
*BOOM!*
Tyler awoke from his sleep and quickly sat straight up. He heard a loud explosion in the distance. He knew there was city construction going on so he thought nothing of it. Until he heard the screaming. He stood up and turned around, to see what was going on. No more than 300 yards from where he was standing, there was a thick cloud of black smoke, coming up from the city line. He could see people running towards, and away from, it. Screams could be heard over the rumbling of the explosion and the footsteps of panicky people. He was disgusted by it. He was disgusted by the fact that the human race was so weak and fearful. He hated everything about them, but yet, he was a watcher, and was forced to serve his country and its people.
Now that he was standing up, Tyler's figure could be seen against the setting sun. He was average height with a stocky figure; he wore a black, leather trench coat with all black clothes underneath. His black hair was messy on top with a fade on the sides. His eyes were a dark brown, almost black, and were very hard and cold. He had a 5 o'clock shadow and an unlit cigarette hanging out of his mouth. He reached in his pocket to get his lighter, but was interrupted by the sound of his cell phone. He reached to the inside pocket of his coat, flipped open the receiver, and responded to the ringing.
"Yeah?!" he said, in a low, irritated voice.
"Tyler," said the man, with a thick Italian accent. "Something big just went down over by the corner store on 112th st. You are in the area, right?"
"Yeah, I can see the smoke from here."
"Good, I want you to go investigate. We have reason to believe this is a local terrorist group, and not a construction accident, and if that's the case, I am counting on you to make sure the people don't know that."
"Right. A demolition accident?"
"Fine, just do your job."
The click was heard on the other end and Tyler closed the receiver to his phone. Looking up at the August sky and taking a deep breath, Tyler walked back to his car at the sidewalk cafe. He quickly got in the car, started engine, and took off toward the scene. As he drove there, he passed dozens of on looking citizens.
When he arrived, he came to find that the entire block had already been cleared out and blocked off. He tried to get past one of the barricades, but he was stopped by a local police officer.
The officer raised his hand and said, "I'm sorry sir, but this road is closed. Demolition accident. You'll have to find and alternate route."
"I see.." Tyler mumbled, rolling his eyes.
As Tyler reached into his coat pocket to pull out his badge, the police officer got worried and pulled his handgun out of its holster.
He shouted, "Hold it right there buddy; put your hands in the air!"
Tyler, acting as if he didn't even hear the cop, continued his search for his badge. After a little more searching and some shouting from the shaky cop, Tyler found his badge in the left, inside pocket of his coat.
Tyler held the badge in the cop’s face and asked, in an agitated voice,
"Can I get through here now? SIR!"
The cop closely examined the badge, when suddenly his eyes opened wide and he stumbled back in disbelief.
The cop stuttered, "S..Sorry sir. I didn't real..lize. Go right on through."
Tyler slowly strolled down the road and stopped at the corner of the block with the damaged building. He surveyed it closely, seeing that everything is going smoothly and that civilians are staying out of the area. Two bomb squad members in gas masks walked out of the smoking office building. Less than ten seconds after the bomb squad walked out, a fireman was spotted heading for the exit also. He could hardly be seen through the smoke and whatnot, but apparently he was dragging out a young, unconscious woman.
As he approached the door he began yelling to another fireman, "Get a stretcher and an oxygen t...."
*CRASH*
Before he could even finish his request, the entire ceiling caved in, crushing him and the woman. Smoke and ash blasted out in all directions and nearby cops and medics took cover.
Tyler took a long drag off his cig and blew it out the window. He then stepped out of his car to stretch and get a little closer to the wreckage.
His senses were keen to everything around him and he surveyed the entire area, making mental notes on all that he sees. He flicked his cigarette butt to shake off the ash, and started walking back to his car to report to his boss. He walked out to his car, which is parked against a curb facing a 2 way street. He opened the driver’s side door and got in, then he shut the door. He pulled out his phone and started to dial up headquarters. Before he could finish, a black Civic speeded by at, way over, 70 MPH. It got so close to hitting him, that Tyler could feel his car shake. The Civic also took off Tyler's side view mirror.
"What the fuck?" Tyler said to himself.
Luckily he left his car running. He immediately put the car into drive, and sped off after the car. The Civic made a right turn where the road ended and the river started. The river ran in the same direction as the road that they turned on to, and could be seen to the left of the cars. Tyler chased after the Civic down a long straight away. Two heads popped out of the back windows and began firing at Tyler. Tyler began swerving back and forth, with his head down, trying to avoid the barrage of bullets flying at his car. The bullets caused his front windshield to web with cracks, to the point where he can hardly see out.
He brought his head up and sped up in an attempt to rear end the Civic. He nailed it hard and kicked it forward a couple of feet, but the driver maintained control. One of the men dropped his gun in the impact, and the other one was out of bullets. Tyler seized the opportunity and quickly put the top half of his body, with his gun in his hand, out the window.
He started firing at the left rear window of the car. The man on the left couldn’t get back into the car in time and took 2 rounds right in the side of his head. The driver sped up to almost 110 MPH, while the right rear passenger opened the left, rear door and pushed the dead body out of the car.
The body rolled back toward Tyler's car. Tyler tried to swerve and avoid it. He quickly veered to the right, but the body got underneath his left wheel. He tried to straighten himself by turning the wheel right, but overturned the wheel and began a series of barrel rolls down the street. He flipped 4 1/2 times and landed upside down.
Still in this position, upside down, he sighed and pulled out a cigarette with the Zippo in his coat pocket, and lit it. He put his cigs and lighter back in his pocket and slowly crawled out the driver's side window of the car. He stood up and looked over the underside of his rolled car, at the black civic as it sped away. He pulled his cell phone out his pocket and began dialing headquarters.
After a couple rings, the boss answered the phone and asked, with his thick accent, "What's the deal "T"?
Tyler answered, "I saw the group who's responsible for the bombing. They are a local terrorist group known as 'Death Fund'." His face completely tightens as he says, "One of them was the one that killed
Carly."
"Are you sure?" asks the chief, inquisitively.
"Positive, I'll never forget that scar!"
