Chapter One: Hidden in the Temple

Commander Eric Marshall stepped onto the rugged, snowy, ground heavily as his boot made a metal clunking sound behind him. The cold winter of the Lost temple was never something to be underestimated. “Why do I always get the worst jobs” he muttered over and over again. The temperature had dropped below 25 degrees and even the warm, soft, padding of his armor was beginning to feel a bit cool. “Ill pick you up at 0600 hours commander” said the dropship captain in the intercom. With that the majestic dropship lifted its antigrav engines and lifted off as steam filled the faces of the onlookers. “Sir, ground tracing has lead me to believe that this planet is rich in minerals, and energy tracers have picked up a slight signal to the west of here”. “Alright,” the commander said, “lets get this over with”. 8 men trudge on the barren, cold, wasteland in search for any other species that may have already existed on this planet. “Lets split up into 4 groups, each going one way” Marshall shouted into the intercom. Immediately 2 marines went in each direction as Marshall turned on his synchronizer watch. This watch would tell him what the life readings in each of his 7 men were. Then, taking one of his best buddies, Eric went down south. The trees seemed endless and thick vines protruding from the snow made it hard to walk. Marshall was thinking about just giving up when suddenly two of the 8 indicator life readings went blank. “Must be an error” Marshall thought as he tapped his watch a few times to try to get it working again. Frustrated that the watch wouldn’t work, Marshall and his other man trudged grumpily toward where the two men who were apparently “dead” had been. When he got there it was obvious that the other 4 men had come to the same conclusion, and the 6 men sat there, staring in the horizon, trying to find out where their men had gone. Suddenly from the east a something moved. Marine number 104 quickly turned around and fired. A small cry ensued and the “thing” ran into the bushes. “I have a bad feeling about this” said Marshall as he signaled the dropship to come pick them up. As the dropship neared the land from it’s orbit, the bushes starting rustling. Thinking that it was just the force generated from the dropship landing, Marshall simply turned his back and ignored it. He never saw the 24 zerglings pop out of the bushes, and he never made it to the door of the ship. No one did...

Prologue:
The war of Epilonis was a 15 year war fought between all terran alliances with the zerg swarm. Though the protoss did join in to combat against the zerg for a few battles, they gradually learned to stay out of these often gruesome confrontations. At the start the chances at winning for the terrans seemed slim. Countless many planets stood in the way of their dream of galactic domination. However as zerg base after base fell, it soon seemed apparent that the terrans were much stronger then the others had granted them for. As the war progressed, one fleet became famous for its actions in the war. The 6th fleet was referred to as the doom fleet. Holding countless many ships, this fleet could terrorize zerg bases by just going into orbit. Usually just a few hours after an attack, the opposing base would surrender to this fleet, realizing absolutely no chance of victory. The commander of this majestic fleet, Battalion leader James Blaire, was a commander who was as ruthless as he was cunning. Always staying one step ahead of the enemy. At this point in the war all of the main zerg nations have fell, and the small ones are being swept and wiped out. In an effort to find every zerg colony, the terrans have dispatched scout teams of 8 to each planet.

-6 months later-

“Blaire sir”. “Yes Captain Malkowitz?”. “We pick up no sign of life on any of the planets we have sent recon teams to, Mar Sara, Tarsolis, and Dire Straits have checked out” replied the captain. “Well then i trust that we can be home by Christmas then” Blaire replied smartly. “Well, not quite sir, evidently there is still one recon team that hasn’t checked in sir.......they went to the planet....of the Lost Temple”. “Were they not the first recon team we sent?” Blaire said. “Yes they were sir, and it’s rather mysterious that they haven’t even bothered checking in once”. “Send in a dispatch team....”

The sound of tank engines roared into the open as 2 tanks, 8 goliaths, and 10 marines set foot on the planet of the Lost Temple. “goddamit it’s so fucking cold nowadays” muttered the usually happy tank commander of the legion, “there isn’t any way that anything biological could live out in this winter without 10 inches of armor”.

-“this is blaire to dispatch team, shut the hell up and get on with this. I want you to get outta there asap if you see resistance, however I am sure that you will probably not find anything that can outfight your force”-

The clunking of the metal legs of the goliath matched the thumping sound of the boots of the marines as they trudged through the seemingly endless plain. With advanced reconnaisance, it would be easy to find any zerg settlement.

“Tank 101 to science vessel do you see anything”
“Explorer reporting, we have advanced energy signals in the north, over”
“Were scouting, over”

Blaire put down the phone. “They picked up an energy signal at Lost Temple” Blaire said, “captain, put is into orbit, and get us there.” The roar of engines could be heard miles around as 24 battlecruisers and countless many swarming wraiths, science vessals, and valkayries entered into light orbit, intent on getting to their destination quickly. Light flashed and in seconds, everything was still. The great fleet had left the region of the last zerg main, leaving behind empty space.

At the Lost Temple the tank commander zoomed in on his telescope that was mounted on the front of the tank. “That’s right men, it’s a sunken colony.” “Tank 101 to Explorer, we see a zerg settlement, we think that it may be primitive, attacking over”. Strange, thought the captain in the science vessels, the tank commander said it was primitive, however the captain picked up readings that showed very advanced life. “Tank 101, disengage, get outta there NOW!!!!!!” As the tanks sieged up, bringing forward it’s huge cannon to fire on the sunken, the trees started shaking. Rising out of them countless many mutalisks rose into the air. Volleys and volleys of missles were fired into this huge force, and yet more were advancing out of the trees. Flanked by huge crablike monsters, and even bigger devourers, the small terran dispatch crew was looking at the full might of the zerg airfleet. “O...fuck” said 101 as the mutalisks swarmed the tank. Signal was lost with the dispatch crew as sounds of screaming mutalisks were heard on the intercom, slowly chipping away at their prey.

Slinking away quickly, the science vessel started speeding away from the zerg colony. However it wasn’t unnoticed. 5 scourge began following it. The captain felt beads of sweat drop onto his clothes as he tried to make his vessel fly faster, irridating certain scourge. However he could tell that the scourge were gaining on him. In one last attempt he veered to the right as the leading scourge fell with him. One scourge rammed into his hull and the captain felt a shuddering blast. “Shields failing” screamed the alarm system. Just when he thought it was all over, lasers starting shining all around him. The scourge were demolished nearly instantly as the science vessel saw a huge airfleet surround him. The 6th fleet had arrived.
