Hey, and welcome to my first individual battlereport for quite a while. Don't expect to lose your breath, or suffer multiple simultaneously heart attacks, like Mark4 has proclaimed in the news section. This was insanely rushed and doesn't include my godly graphics like you've admired in the past. Basically, if you haven't found out yet, this battlereport is based on the Br.com Invitational 1v1 tourney, which the winner would win a hundred dollars from the PayPal fund (keep in mind about 80% of that money is Mctfb's).
After the invitees were listed, a sharp pain developed in my chest, as I didn't see my name on the list. I kept my blood pressure down and decided to battlereport a game from the tourney that Mark4 has been advertising endlessly. I logged on, got up to date with the standings, noticed T_Mac was 0-5, and observed the finals. If you are incapable of reading any recent news, this battlereport, or anything of that matter; click on the little x in the top right corner of this window, if you're using a mac, fuck you. The tournament's final results after 5 rounds were as follows:
Apex-X 4-1
Astic 4-1
Drone 3-2
Corbalt 3-2
WaxAngel 3-2
Mantra 2-3
High.Templar 1-4
T_Mac 0-5
Ok everyone let out all their laughs, but come on 0-5? hahaha. If you're still laughing click here to continue laughing. Ok now shut up.

With everyone else eliminated, Apex and Astic would complete a best of 3 game series deciding the victor. The first map would be played on Incubus, a map resembling Rivalry.
Both players randomed their fate, with Apex receiving his strongest race: zerg. Apex morphed in the bottom right region of the map, with brown. Astic also randomed, receiving red terran opposite of his opponent, in the bottom left region of the map.
Apex opted to queue his supply to 9/9 before beginning an overlord. Astic meanwhile, began a supply depot prior to blocking his choke with a barracks, concealing his refinery and any hint of early tech. He was quick to scout as well, already noting a hatchery outside of his opponents main. Apex meanwhile, began a spawning pool and extractor, as well as gaining information with his overlord heading north.
Astic starts a factory nearly 2 and a half minutes into the game, while continually pumping scv's. His opponents hatchery and pool finish, and seconds later a sunken colony is added accompanied by zerglings. Apex locates his foe with an overlord, then quickly sends his zerglings in response to 2 factories up and running. He begins attacking the barracks that prevents him from getting inside, thinking Astic cannot possibly have any defense. Astic however, does; and immediately drives them off with a marine and vulture.
Apex turns his attention to climb the tech tree as well, and does so by upgrading to lair. Astic resumes production of tanks/vultures, as well as constructing an armory and another factory, totaling the number to 3. His opponent's lair finishes revealing an immediate spire, obviously Apex is preparing to counter the terran metal with mutalisks. Before this however, Astic sieges his tank accompanied by some vultures and marines outside of Apex's hatchery. The push was a failure, as 2 groups of zerglings pincer Astic's forces, leaving only a few zerglings dead.

Astic begins all out production of badass goliaths, while Apex reveals his 6 mutalisks to Astic, over his peon line of course. The attack doesn't do as much damage as I proposed, 2 scvs are killed, and the mutalisks are driven off by goliaths, big fucking whoop. During this however, Apex expanded to his natural while Astic looked to the offensive.
Astic gathers together his goliaths, 2 firebats, and a medic and sends them right into Apex's new expansion. Astic chose to move as fast as possible over the bridge that connected the expansion to the rest of the map, which made him very vulnerable. Apex noticed this and attacked the threat, which were more occupied in crossing the bridge than defending themselves. This speaks for itself, as the muta/ling engulfed the entire force from 3 different sides while losing minimum casualties.

Astic looks to expand by securing the bridges outside of his natural. Apex meanwhile starts a hydralisk den while noticing Astic's expansion with a scouting zergling. He looks to immediately destroy the goliaths securing the expansion with groups of muta/ling. Rather than promoting an attack move, Apex opts to move command his forces into the heart of the goliaths. It seems to work for about a second, but a little bit of micro from Astic, and the threat is gone.
During the conflict, Apex has taken time to expand to the 1 o' clock natural. Astic, ensures this chance to attack Apex while he can.
Apex however, isn't as weak as Astic thought, and a group of upgraded hydralisks proves to be too big of a hastle, and Astic is forced to retreat. Apex pursues the run-away goliaths and pays for it, running into a siege tank surrounded by goliaths and firebats.
He loses little, while Astic locates his opponents new expansion with an scv. Apex responds by sending a group of hydras to the expansion to secure its safety.
Astic scans the middle of the 2 mains to see nothing but plain terrain, and moves out to secure it. Apex however, looks to pincer this attack by reinforcing his hydras at home with the group sent to secure his expansion. It works perfectly, while Astic's forces move into place a group of hydras hit him in the front, while another from behind (I was very tempted to add a t_mac joke in there somewhere, but didn't ;o). This description is self-explanatory, and Astic leaves the game giving Apex a 1-0 lead in the series.

With Astic behind 0-1, he obviously had to win this game, or no 100 monies for him and his pokemon collection. According to the rules provided by mark, the loser chose the map. Astic chose lost temple, Apex joined after being afk for 20 mins, and the game was started.
Apex again randomed his remarkable zerg, and landed at 6:00. Astic randomed protoss at 3:00, giving both players some reasonable space in-between their mains. As you will see, this went against Astic's advantage, who was unable to perform a decent rush.
Astic went pylon at 8/9, shortly after a single gateway was added. Apex did very much the same build as he displayed in game 1, a hatchery at ramp, followed by a traditional spawning pool and extractor. Astic was thinking gas too, but his first zealot was halted when his probe found a hatchery nearly finished. Astic knew a rush was hopeless out of one gateway, not to mention the distance that separated the mains. Apex made sure his opponent wouldn't rush, setting a sunken at his ramp while upgrading to lair. Astic meanwhile, was quietly climbing the tech tree with a cybernetics core followed by a stargate.
A long buildup ensued, with Astic using his single hotkey'd probe to circle around his opponents main multiple times. In fact, both players had amazing recon, and within 4 minutes the entire map had been scouted. Moments later, Astic tried to harass Apex's overlords with a corsair, but the aid of hydralisks came just in time.
Apex expands to the 9:00 main while Astic builds a shuttle with an obvious desire for reavers, as well as upgrading his gateway count to 3. Astic came upon Apex's 9:00 expansion with a corsair, and immediately gathered his 10 dragoons, a shuttle containing 2 reavers, and some zealots to send them west. Apex however, beat him to it, as he took a group of hydralisks and held position at the 9:00 ramp. Coincidently, that is exactly where Astic's shuttle was headed to, and needless to say 2 reavers and a shuttle were lost within a couple seconds. Astic angerly withdrew his remaining forces back to his main, with Apex trailing him with 2 groups of hydralisks.

Astic expands to his natural while desperately feeling the need for his beloved reavers. Apex knew his stroke of "luck" needed to continue, and sent nearly 2 groups of ranged, speeded, wtf you name it, hydralisks to Astic's base. Like game 1, Apex opted to use move command into the protoss defense rather than simply attack move. The results were minimal losses from both sides, and Apex was forced to retreat. Once situated outside his foe's base however, Apex had researched lurkers as well as ventral sacs so his overlords weren't worthless pieces of scouting shit.

Astic sent out a probe to investigate the zerg stationed outside of his natural to find lurkers eggs. In response, he couragesly ran smack into the eggs true form, lurkers, and without detection (his only observer was killed during the last conflict) he retreated to his natural.
He constructed another one, but Apex loaded up 2 lurkers and dropped them onto the ridge overlooking Astic's peon line to his natural. Nearly all of the probes were killed.
Astic still had a chance, and attacked full fledge into the hydralisks and lurkers, this time with an observer and reaver. But his hopes quickly fell apart, as he decided to lead the protoss attack with his reaver :(. Apex obviously did what anyone would have, and singled out the reaver before it could cause any real damage. Astic left the game without a "gg" following this, obviously pissed about losing 3 reavers with only a few kills to show up for it. Oh yea btw, Apex wins teh monies, shutting out his former clan-mate 2-0.

Well there you have it, a series that decided absolutely nothing, except for 100 monies of course. Astic didn't leave empty handed though, he received 25$. Apex on the other hand, was supposed to get a nice big benjamin, but donated 50 fucking dollars back to the fund. Damn A-X idiots. Anyways like I said, 2 good games played by both players, even though the games weren't epic.
