Introduction
Isn't it great when you observe an awesome game and you want to battlereport it - but you've realized you've forgotten to take pictures or save the replay? Yah, that's how I feel right now... ... ... What I'm saying is no pics. Sorry.
Well, I finally got used to HTML (thanks to those wonderful guides) and I decided to release another battlereport. Yes, my second one. My first one wasn't a good one. If you want to read it, go here, though I don't think you would.
Anyhoo, last time I battlereported, I released a game in a five game series, which was very boring. This time I am battlereporting myself against a good terran people which none of you know. Anyhoo, let's get this battlereport underway. BTW, this game was played about two months ago, and I still remember it. (I seem to release battlereports quickly. O well, anything to get me a low rating.;))
Let's Get Started!
I entered channel Clan ~NoHunters to find it nearly empty and those who were there were either dead or AFK. I waited awhile, for someone I knew to come in. But I waited ten minutes and still no one came. I clicked on the "join" button and scrolled down the long list of games. I finally came across a 1v1 lost temple game amongst all the amid BGH ones.
I entered the game room and greeted the creator. His name was The^Gullotine. He is a very good terran and an OK zerg. He started the countdown and we're off!
I started at the 9:00 position with my creepy, orange Zerg Hatchery. He started off at 3:00 with his brown Terran Command Center. At that time, I wasn't sure about how good my opponnent was and I was confused at which strat to use. Knowing he was Terran, as he picked it, I decided to go with a normal Zerg V Terran strat. (That's normal for me >_<)
My build order was this: Overlord, Pool, Hatch at natural
His build order was something like this: Barracks at his choke, and depot on top. Then he built a second barracks above his ramp.
First Blood
His scouting SCV came into my choke and spotted a finishing Hatchery at my natural. He ran it back and built a bunker at my mineral-only, though I didn't see this yet. Marines from both barracks came running down to his finished bunker and hopped inside of it. Luckily, he was out of range of my hatchery to do any damage. I sent out a scouting drone and spotted his bunker. My drone blew up into blood and guts.
I started mining gas from both my extractors, one at my main and one at my natural, and then I started on a Hydra Den and upgraded my Hatchery into a Lair. I scouted his little fort again and found another bunker and a group of infantry built up. My Lair completed and I began my research of the Lurker Morph at my Hydra Den, while piling up on some zerg forces. Soon I had a shitload of zerglings and a few hydralisks.
As I kept up my scouting I found he had constructed a turret and he now had medics on the battlefield. My Lurker Morph upgrade completed and I morphed my first hydralisks into lurkers. I built two sunkens at my natural incase of any attacks. As I waited for my lurkers to finish, his twelve marines and five-six medics rushed in for the first offensive move in the game. My sunkens went down quickly and I panicked. Fortuneately for me, my lurkers finished and I burrowed them infront of the marines, who were starting to blast my helpless drones away. Gullotine retreated his infantry to his small fort outside my base. I pursued him.
My Hydra/Lurker/Ling force assaulted the small fort. Marines stimmed up quickly and blew zerglings up like there was no tomorrow. Lurkers burrowed within range of bunkers and began attacking. The turret went down, and with no detection he realized he was going to lose the fort.
I unburrowed my lurkers and sent the rest of my army towards the 3:00 main base. As my first zerglings ran past Gullotine's choke, arclite shells blew atop them, blowing them into a pool of blood. I now realized he had tanks above his cliff. But instead of retreating my forces from ten tanks above his cliff, I attacked him. Zerglings ran up his ramp and slipped past his wall-in to get hits on tanks. I quickly hot-keyed my hydras and told them to attack the turret. The turret’s HP was twenty-thirty when my last hydra dropped dead to tank fire. I quickly tried to burrow my remaining lurkers, two of them, on his ramp. But lurkers being large and clumsy as they are, couldn’t even run up the ramp, and they died to the remaining tanks.
Mid-Game Yet Or What?
After that initial attack, both of us had some rebuilding to do. I expanded to the 12:00 main. I built a spire behind my minerals at my natural and I built a queen’s nest in my main. I wanted to get Guardians/Ultralisks/Cracklings all at once. My Spire finished and I built a few mutas, one I sent scouting. I morphed my Lair into a Hive.
My scouting mutalisk arrived at six natural and found nothing. I was about to send it off to scout three natural when a brown dot entered the mini-map. I quickly clicked to that spot and there were two dropships getting ready to drop, somewhere. By that time I had quite a number of mutalisks, so I sent them to the cliff north of the three main, so I could assault his base from behind.
Just then, the two dropships I had scouted earlier arrived at my 12:00 main expansion and unloaded its cargo. The drop consisted of ten marines, two medics, and a lone tank. The tank sieged up and began pounding my helpless Hatchery. Luckily, my mutas were passing overhead and I told them to destroy the terran invaders. Just as the marines stimmed and began popping my helpless drones, my mutas came and attacked them with their “glave wurms”. Marines yelled and fell to the ground, and Medics fell screaming. Then they attacked the lone siege tank and killed him, too.
My Hive finished and I began my morph of the greater spire. I quickly threw down another evo chamber to add to my other one (many hands make light work ;)). I had already +1 range attacks and +1 melee, so I upgraded +1 carapace armor and +2 melee. I then began building an ultralisk den. At my hydra den, I had upgrading lurker morph and range, so I needed to upgrade speed. And at my pool I upgraded speed so I began upgrading attack rate. And finally, my spire I quickly began upgrading +1 attack and +1 armor. BTW, I also researched ovie speed and drops.
The Loss Of Bases
During this time, I had built a huge army and was now morphing my mutas on the cliff above 3:00 main into guardians. As I waited for them to finish morphing, my Ultra Cavern completed and I researched armor for them. Then I built five ultras and a load of cracklings. My guardians finished and I waited for the perfect time to attack.
All of a sudden, I spotted something in front of my 9:00 choke. I quickly clicked over to the spot and found a huge terran force, consisting of marines/medics/tanks/science vessels. I began panicking because I knew I wouldn’t be able to hold out against him with only a few lings, two devourers and some hydras.
I quickly realized that the time to attack was now. I sent my ten guards and five mutas into the empty terran main. The guardians quickly began razing buildings, and those that tried to fly away were torn to shreds by my remaining mutalisks. At that moment, he also rushed into my base and completely annihilated my natural.
Unfortunately, he had five wraiths that completely disposed of my mutas and guardians, but not before I had destroyed more than half his base. I sent all my remaining cracklings and hydras to the 9:00 natural. The hydras got rid of the wraiths and the zerglings began to claw on the armored buildings. He quickly flew his barracks away, and with no air support I could do no longer but wait.
I had built a few reinforcement cracklings and ultras, which were positioned atop my ramp at 9. Unluckily, his two science vessels irradiated my two ultras and they were badly wounded. Then he rushed up the ramp. The tanks on lower ground blasted away, and several zerglings and an ultralisk fell to arclite cannons. His combined marine/medic force was too much for me, and my main was destroyed.
At my 12 main I still had a shitload of drones, so I built a spawning pool, a hydra den, and an ultra cavern. Then I began rebuilding. I rebuilt some ultras, some defense lurkers, and a load of cracklings.
The End?????
I discovered his new main base at the 6 natural. With four-drop hydralisks and a lone muta, I attacked 6 nat. But it seemed that he still had a huge army. He sieged his tanks right below my 12 main and they began cannoning my hatchery. I quickly sent my drones away to 12 natural.
I decided to attack him with my rebuilt army. I sent my cracklings first, my ultras next and my hydras bringing up the rear. Well, my cracklings died to marine/medics with back-up tank fire and my ultras just exploded into a pool of blood. And me being wise, retreated the rest of my force back to my 6 choke.
Unluckily for me, his tanks managed to destroy my ultra cavern and my hydra den. My pool was, luckily, out of reach of tank fire. I quickly began morphing a spire, while I kept my best to hold the fort. I consistently built zerglings and drones. My spire finished shortly and I quickly made six mutas.
At this point he came in to attack. My remaining ultras/hydras did quite a lot of damage to the terran army. He brought down my natural and I retreated my drones yet again to my main. My dour hydras and lone muta who destroyed the 6 natural rushed up to my base and destroyed both tanks.
All six of my newly hatched mutas were dead. I only had a spawning, a half-dead spire and two healthy hatches left. I quickly made 12 cracklings and rallied to the top of my ramp. They hatched quickly and with two new larvae I made two more mutas… Then my hatcheries went down. I only had my spawning pool left. This time I coordinated my attack really well. Just as my mutas hatched I rushed him with my cracklings. But Gullotine knew it was over. I dispatched his remaining force and he conceded with a “gg”.
What What Is To Be Learned From All This? (Nothing)
1) I should have expanded more out.
2) Instead of defending myself, I could have destroyed his last barracks with my mutas.
3) I could’ve built more hatcheries.
4) Don’t lose ten guardians to five wraiths.
Adrenaling is quick.
