Hey all. LockEmDown here, and welcome to my first (and hopefully decent) battle report. This report might really suck, but I promise any future reports will be much, much better. This was pretty much just a practice for future reports. Anyway, onto the game...
It started as me and my good friend sandman118600 (now to be referred to as "sandman") were deciding on a match to play. After a long conversation of nothing of interest, we decided on a 2 on 2 at The Lost Temple.
However, we also decided (Ok...so I sort of forced him to agree) that we would be on opposing teams. I made the game "2 on 2 at LT", and he joined. After a short wait, two players by the names of soho_ and ~sKyNaD~ joined our game. soho_ having the more skilled record, ended up being on sandman's side of the Top Vs. Bottom, while ~sKyNaD~ and I were to join forces, in hope to beat our semi-worthy competitors. I choose Terran, and ~sKyNaD~ chooses Protoss, while sandman randoms Terran, and soho_ randoms Protoss. The countdown begins, and without further ado, I bring you...
Note: Most proceeding pictures taken from replay. They will not have any special effects, because I couldn't get my hands on Adobe Photoshop... =(
Now...lets get this party started.
My Command Center locks onto 9 o'clock ground (8 if you wanna get picky about it, but I won't go into that), and my ally ~sKyNaD~'s Nexus warps in at the 6 o'clock position.
I begin my build by going, Depot on 8 (at choke), scouting with that SCV clockwise, Racks on 12 (at choke), and simultaneously making a Refinery on 12, then finally, Factory on 19. I finish my wall-in with another Depot at my choke, and take a quick look at my ally's build. He builds Pylon on 6, Gateway on 9, Gateway on 12, Assimilator on 14, and Pylon at his Natural on 21.
After checking on my ally, I decide to take a look at my opponent's bases, however, just before I click my mouse over to their bases, I notice a White SCV making an attempt to scout me out. I block off the little gap in my wall-in with my single Marine, and the Marine scares off the SCV. Now to see what my opponents are up to...
sandman was at the 12 o'clock position with Terran, and his ally soho_ was at the 3 o'clock position with Protoss. sandman seemed to be going ground troops, with 2 bunkers and the likes, while soho_ went double Gateways.
At this point, I knew this match was going to be hell, because for one thing, I was facing another Terran, which happens to be my worst match. As for another thing, sandman knew my tactics well, and I was going to have to do something different. My winning this match would require lots of luck, and considering I had run out of that stuff long ago (as you will see later on), this match was going to suck.
So, what was my strategy going to be for today's match?? Today's match was going to require some heavy artillery. Something that would inflict massive damage upon my enemies. Something that could not be easily countered. What was today's strategy, might you ask?? Today's strategy was going to be none other than the Massive Tank Push. This push was to lead from my main, all the way to my enemy. It was to be coordinated, fast, and deadly.
So...back to the game!!
As soon as my factory was done, I take a look at the mini-map, only to notice 4 of soho_'s Zealots engaging in combat with 4 of my ally's Zealots. Considering my ally had "Main Base Advantage" I figured he would be fine, and continued with my base, until I noticed those 4 Teal Zealots backing off into the shroud. I took a look at my base, saw my defense of 1 Marine, and thought to myself "Aww Shit!! He's coming my way!!".
I quickly lay down a second Factory, then click my Barracks, and press the "M" key a few dozen times. Worried, I wait patiently, and try to get some Tanks as soon as possible. However, after long worrying, the Zealots never show up to my front door. With a sigh of relief, I continue by putting down Machine Shops, massing Tanks, and researching Siege Mode.
All is calm for the while, as all four players quietly tech up. I continue by putting down an Engineering Bay, ComSat, StarPort, and expanding to my Natural, while constantly pumping Tanks from 2 Factories. My ally ~sKyNaD~ slowly techs up. He expands to his Natural, techs to Observers, and sends a Shuttle down to the lower right island with a probe, to expand again, as he pumps constant Zealots from 2 GateWays.
~sKyNaD~'s second expansion however, is denied as soho_ sends down a Dragoon, a Zealot, and a Probe in a Shuttle to take down the Pylon and the warping Nexus stationed there.
To get some action going, I begin production of a DropShip for my future Tank Drop. As my DropShip finishes, I ComSat the left side of sandman's Main, and find it wide open. "Bingo" I think to myself as I load my DropShip with 2 Tanks, and head towards the upper left corner. However, my superb luck strikes as soho_ decides to scout the upper left corner with his large pack of Corsairs, looking for an enemy expansion, only to run into my DropShip that was heading towards his ally's base. The DropShip comes so close, yet so far, as it is destroyed in the air before it is able to drop its payload.
By now my ally has a nice amount of Observers patrolling the perimeter of our bases. One of them catches sandman trying to place an Offensive Barracks near ~sKyNaD~'s base, and ~sKyNaD~'s Zealots promptly dispose of it.
At this point, I feel safe enough to begin my Tank Push, and start putting Tanks into Siege Mode starting from my base, heading towards the center of the map, while having SCVs construct Missile Turrets at various places in the push. As this is going on, I begin production of a new DropShip, to hopefully get a second chance for a Tank Drop.
-=Mini-Map Update=-
My ally has now been constantly whining about the lag, which no one else seems to have, and states he is going to "get rid of it". He gathers his force of Zealots, and in a single-file line, sends them towards sandman's base. While this is happening, I am simultaneously Tank Dropped by sandman and invaded by soho_.
Paying no attention to soho_'s forces, and concentrating on sandman's 2 Tanks that were Siegeing up, and about to inflict damage on my main. I send 4 Tanks of my own and an SCV to take out the intruders. With casualties of only 1 Tank, my intruders are destroyed and so is the DropShip they came in. Now for the other action...
The forces of soho_ that had tried to invade while that was going on, destroyed 1 Tank before fleeing from the powerful Arclite Cannons of the other Tanks.
The battle of ~sKyNaD~'s Zealots and sandman's mixed, Terran forces, wages on. The Zealots manage to destroy most of sandman's frontal forces, and clear the ramp. However, with the aid of soho_, sandman wins the battle, however he suffers major casualties, losing most is his defenses.
Then it happens...
The match turns into a 2 on 1, and all seems hopeless, once again. In a last ditch effort to winning, I offer my opponents a Free For All, but they simply ignore my request. Great...
Well, what's my situation?? I have no air support, I have only my Natural to get resources from, and the match just turned 2 on 1. I figured that if I wanted to win, I was going to have to
1) Expand.
2) Get some Air Support.
3) Out-upgrade them.
Well, Expanding would be hard, considering that they already have most of the expansions. I was running very low on resources, so Air Support wouldn't be coming unless I expanded, and out-upgrading them would also require an expansion. Speaking of upgrades, lets take a look at the current ones...
Well, with that said, my first mission is to expand. I load my DropShip made earlier, with 2 SCVs, ComSat the left side, and head my DropShip towards the upper left corner island. As luck would have it, sandman decides to ComSat my base. His ComSat just so happens to land right smack on my DropShip and he sees me coming. I however, did not notice...
Seeing this, soho_ is ready, and his Corsairs once again, take out my DropShip. I begin production of another DropShip, and take notice to the fact that a Mineral Only expansion is good for the taking. I really didn't need Minerals, just Gas, but I figure it's better for me to take it than them. At this point, they offer to Ally, because my partner left on me, however I decide against it and continue. As my new Command Center is being built, I think of what to do next. My thinking is cut short however, as sandman's Tanks decide to pay a nice visit to my Natural's ledge.
His Tanks go into Siege Mode, and begin to open fire on my Refinery. My Tanks on ground fire back, and manage to kill 1 Tank, but they are destroyed, and his Tank continues assault on my Natural. I send all my SCVs to my soon-to-be Mineral Only expansion, and wait patiently as my DropShip nearly completes.
The DropShip finishes, and I quickly load it with 2 Tanks, to try and minimize the damage inflicted to my Natural. My DropShip nearly makes it to the ledge, but for the 3rd time in the game, is stopped by soho_'s Corsairs just before unloading it's cargo. I think about making another DropShip, and unloading at another point on the ledge, but decide not to. Instead, I ignore my Natural being destroyed, and go for a counter-attack.
Gathering a force of 12 Tanks, I march onward to sandman's base. He had somewhat rebuilt defenses from the time he was attacked earlier, but not many. My Tanks met little resistance on their way to his base, and Siege infront of it. My Tanks begin to rip apart his Main, and Natural, and any forces in the way die before getting many hits in. As most of his defenses are destroyed, he sends a large force of Wraiths towards my attacking Tanks. I make an attempt to build some Turrets, but the Wraiths take out the SCV and partially completed Turret.
After destroying everything guarding sandman's Main, the Tanks are finally disposed of by the Wraiths. By now, they had once again offered to Ally, and I took time to think about it. I was out of gas, and although I had many tanks ready for battle, soho_ hadn't shown much in a while, and by now there was no telling what forces he had, or was making. The fact that I had no Air Support really hampered my situation, and almost any flying unit could easily destroy my Tanks. Plus the fact that my luck was terrible, and for all I know, soho_ could be massing an Air Force, and sandman could actually have something up his sleeve...
With these problems at hand, and being the bastard I am, I agreed to Allying, and with that, we all gave our GG's, and everyone took the win... (except for ~sKyNaD~ of course. Damn him...)

-=After-Game Surpises=-
Oh, let me guess. Those suprises changed your mind about how "stupid" it was to have allied??
