"FLS, I will hunt you down to the ends of the earth. There is no place small, dark, and damp enough to hide your wretched carcass. And when I find you, your grandson will rather have his private parts infested with the fleas of a thousand camels than hear of your horrible fate."

I was in nohunters looking for a 2v2. Someone invited me but the person who would be my ally bailed. I used some cajole to get a 1v1 game going where I would be the observer. The map was Island Hop.

Teams:
Jazz-Man: Yellow, Random, Protoss, Top left
Pro-Zerg: Orange, Protoss, Middle Right

The Begining:
Both Jazz and Pro went for similiar b/o early on, but soon deviated from each other drastically. Each made a pylon and an assimilator, then a gateway. Jazz went for a cyber core while Pro went for a second pylon then a cyber. Pro got a forge early then they both made a Robotic Factory at the same time. Jazz got a forge after a little bit later and made a goon.

Observer Wars:
Pro went for obsvers and expanded to his south. Jazz sent a shuttle for scouting and soon found orange's main. An observer found Yellow's base as well. Yellow turned into the aggressor and soon dropped 4 goons and Orange's main. Orange at this time had a reaver and a Dragoon. Yellow didn't risk it and evactuated. Yellow didn't notice orange's expansion and continued producing Goons and started to make Reavers. Pro then went all-out scouting with observers and placed them and every expansion on the map. He also got Dark Templar and and had 2 in a shuttle. This proved to be a smart move, since whenever he saw a threat, he had a mobile army to deal with it.

Yellow saw orange's expansion and dropped 2 goons, figuring it was undefended and easily destroyable. Orange sent his 2 Dark Templar to defend it and Yellow's forces there soon died, with hardly any damage done to orange. Yellow expands to the bottom-left spot. He makes a pylon and a nexus. Pro's observers pick up on this and he waits untill the nexus is done untill dispatching his 2 Dt's on it. Yellow's expansion attempt is foiled. Yellow expands again to the base to his south, but only to be killed by Dt's. Yellow decides to retaliate by dropping a large force on Orange's main. He drops 3 Reavers and 4-5 Dragoonz for support. Orange sends his troops in to deal with the threat and Yellow is left with 2 Goons surviving the battle. Orange sees yellow's observer guarding the Goons from Dts. Orange kills it and send in Dt's and yellow's attack is soon destroyed.

Resource Denial is a wonderful Tactic:
Yellow tries to attack again, this time at Orange's probe line. This is where I think the game goes scour. Yellow should have concentrated on expanding and sent his units to defend another base. Instead, he attacks Orange again with Reavers and Goons. All units save the Reavers are killed and it turns into a Reaver-war (real action packed, lemme tell you). Yellow loses and retreats again.

Yellow sends units to his south in an attempt to gain a foot-hold there while Orange grabs the South-east spot. Orange sends in 4 Dt's to attack Yellow's 4 Goons. The Dt's win. Both teams start to get Stargates and make corsairs. Yellow tries to expand to the mineral-only expansion to his south-east. Orange again sees his attempt and sends in 2 Dt's with a Reaver. Yellow now realizes he is contained and says he has lost. We all ally up and the game is over.

Scores:
Pro-Zerg 58,831
Jazz-man 43,325
time: 20:47

Afterword:
Expanding is the most important thing on an island game. And preventing your oppenent from expanding is an easy way to victory. Preventing any expansion attempt (or at least making it really hard) is always a good strategy. Pro made good use of observers and kept tabs on every resource patch. Another tactic I liked of his was that he kept units already packed in a shuttle to attack or defend somewhere. This saved him time and allowed him to make a quick counter. I shall use this tactic in the future... beware future adversaries.
