This being my second BR ever, I didn't realize how hard it is to find a game worth battle reporting. I watched several games, some of them being extremely one sided, others looked promising until someone dropped, and others just had a lack entertainment. I did see one rather interesting game, and was going to make my BR on it, but then I witnessed a battle between (Tiamat) and gettin_$sum.

After a little confusion and gettin_$um leaving just before I started the game for the first time, he rejoined and the game was underway.

(Tiamat) picked Terran, and landed at the 12 o'clock spot. He built a supply depot at his ramp, follow by a barracks and another supply depot, effectively blocking off his ramp from any intruders, and got up a quick refinery for some fast gas.
gettin_$um went random, and ended up with warping in at the 3 o'clock position with protoss. He built a pylon, followed by two gateways, then another pylon.

gettin_$um, after making his first pylon, sent his probe off scouting and found (Tiamat) before he had time to finish blocking off his ramp. He attacked one of (Tiamat)'s SCV which was working on a supply depot, who in turn chased the little probe back and forth for a minute or two until (Tiamat) stoped the SCV so he could finnish off his blockade.

gettin_$um, now knowing where (Tiamat) was, sent his first 4 zealots to the ramp and starting attacking his supply depots. (Tiamat) quickly ran 5 or 6 SCVs over to repair the supply depots, managing to keep them alive even when a few more zealots showed up. During this time, (Tiamat) got up two factories and after wasting a lot of money repairing his supply depots from the endless attack of zealots, a vulture popped out and scared the zealots away; he then starting pumping out a few more vultures just incase gettin_$um tried this again. (Tiamat) was obviously going heavy metal, with his two factories going at it, and not one marine made.

gettin_$um tried the same thing, but with two goons this time. With the two goons, he could prevent the SVCs from repairing the supply depot by having one attack one of the SVCs, while the other attacks the depot. (Tiamat) used some hit and run tactics with his vultures this time (to prevent the goons from hitting the vultures), but it doesn't seem to bother the goons. A sigh of relief must have came from (Tiamat) when his first siege tank appeared to save the day and the goons ran off the second they saw the tank. They came back again, this time with two more friends. The four goons managed to take out one of the supplies depots, but died quickly after that as some new tanks came out to help.

With these constant attacks on (Tiamat), I forgot to check out gettin_$um's base, so I quickly went over to see what he was up to. Before I noticed anything in his base, I saw that he had started an expansion at his natural, obviously not worried about an attack from (Tiamat). I also noticed a citadel of Adun starting to warp in at his main, which could only mean one thing.

Well, with (Tiamat) having no detection what-so-ever, I thought the game was over now as did gettin_$um , but we couldn't be any more wrong. Just before the DTs got through the wall-in, (Tiamat) managed to get some spider mines down, which killed the DTs with ease. After reconstructing his supply depot for the second time, it got taken out by another pair of DTs and a pair of goons, which again got killed by some spider mines, but only after 3 of (Tiamat)'s tanks died. Once that attack was over, (Tiamat) set up some turrets for detection, but only around the center of his base to prevent a drop, none by his ramp. He also started working on a starport.

With gettin_$um thinking the game was over, he sent 6 zealots to finnish (Tiamat) off with, which all died to tanks before they got by the supply depot that (Tiamat) just finished remaking for the third time. Just as gettin_$um's attack got killed off, (Tiamat) loaded a dropship newly constructed with two vultures and sent them directly to gettin_$um's mineral line. After killing of the majority of gettin_$um's probes, his vultures die to his own spider mines when they targeted some DTs right next to them.

With that attack over, (Tiamat) keeps going on the offensive, this time loading two siege tank into his dropship and flies it to the cliff over gettin_$um's expansion. This attack doesn't last long at all though, since gettin_$um dropped a DT there literally seconds earlier, but does do some damage. gettin_$um then tries once again to make it past (Tiamat)'s blocked off ramp with some goons, but once again it fails thanks to siege tanks. Also, if you look on the minimap above, you will notice a yellow dot on the cliff of (Tiamat)'s base. This is an observer. Sometime or another gettin_$um got some observers, and slowly set them up around (Tiamat)'s base.

With his first drop on gettin_$um's expansion more or less a failure, (Tiamat) tries it again. This time he only brings one tank, but with two vultures aswell. He has the vultures set up a perimeter of spider mines to prevent the DT from ruining his fun again. The spider mines do their job, but gettin_$um saw the dropship going to the cliff, and loaded a shuttle of his own with a couple of zealots and dark templar. After the tank kills all but 6 probes in the mineral line it falls to the newly arrived troops, along with the two vultures.

While that happened, (Tiamat) managed to move some of his troops down and secure his natural, knowing he was loosing the mineral race, and his main slowly starting to run dry. gettin_$um tried to stop this by landing two dragoons on the cliff over the expansion, damaging the CC until (Tiamat) moved a couple of siege tanks, which prevented the goons from getting close enough to do any more damage. He also makes another CC at his main and flies it to the top left island.

gettin_$um decided that he had been sitting on his heels for to long now, and went for a four zealot drop at (Tiamat)'s main. Luckily for (Tiamat), he had just sent most of his SCVs to his expansion, so there was no worry about them dieing. The zealots did some damage, taking out a turret and supply depot before being taken out by tanks.

Some time during his drop, gettin_$um expanded ot the 6 o'clock natural, now with a total of two expansions. (Tiamat) also had two expansions, but his main was almost mined out, while gettin_$um still had a little bit of time before his main would be mined out.

(Tiamat) decided to send some vultures to lay some spider mines around gettin_$um's main, and just as he finished laying them, gettin_$um sent a handful of probes to his newly made expansion at the 6 o'clock natural. (Tiamat)'s vultures notice the probes and started chasing them down until he found the expansion and killed off a good portion of the probes before some dragoons caught up and killed the three vultures with ease.

gettin_$um now started to fly some observers around, and quickly found (Tiamat)'s expansion on the top right island. He dropped two dragoons on the island, which were killed off by the SCVs, so he tried it again with the same result. Not giving up, he tried it a third time, once again the SCVs took out the goons with few losses. (Tiamat) quickly set up a few turrets and a bunker while bringing one tank and a four marines from his main just incase more reinforcements came.

As you observant people probably noticed on the minimap above, both (Tiamat) and gettin_$um expanded again, (Tiamat) to the 9 o'clock main, and gettin_$um to the 6 o'clock main. By this time, both their mains were mined out, but (Tiamat) was now getting gas from all of his expansions, while one one of gettin_$um's expansions wasn't bringing in any gas (He never set up a refinery at the 6 o'clock natural untill late in the game).

Just as gettin_$um's third attack on (Tiamat)'s island expansion came to an end, gettin_$um sent some more goons to (Tiamat)'s main, hoping to catch him off guard. Except for killing a couple of marines, he did no damage as (Tiamat)'s siege tanks took care of the goons with ease.

At this point, gettin_$um stumbled upon (Tiamat)'s expansion at the 9 o'clock natural, but (Tiamat) stumbled upon gettin_$um's 6 o'clock expansion at the same time. Both of them sent out attacks to each others expansions, (Tiamat)'s arriving seconds before gettin_$um's, but both of them effectively killing each others expansions. gettin_$um didn't kill off two SCVs and a turret, while (Tiamat) took out the entire expansion. He then went for the 6 o'clock natural, but was cut off by some goons at the ramp and died rather quickly as some of his units got sidetracked to take out gettin_$um's assimilator.

Both players were now down to two mineral sources and the minerals at their naturals were beginning to get a little low. gettin_$um, desperate for minerals/gas, almost immediatly reestablish his expansion at the 6 o'clock natural, setting up a couple of cannons for defence this time and finally started work on a refinery at his 6 o'clock expansion.

(Tiamat), now trying to establish some control on the map, moved 6 tanks and 12 marines not far from the mineral only just below gettin_$um's main.

Unluckily for (Tiamat), gettin_$um noticed this little offensive push with an observer. First he sent 4 DTs (shown in picture above), and soon flanked the group of Terran with a control group of dragoons. The dark templar died quickly after (Tiamat) comstated the area, but soon more dragoons came and took care of the remaining tanks and marines as you can see in the picture below.

With his little set up of tanks and marines dead, (Tiamat) tried a different tactic: dropping gettin_$um's main. He dropped two tanks, then went to pick up some more marines while casting a comstat just incase there were a some dark templar hanging around. (Tiamat) comstated two seconds too late, as 5 of them swarmed the tanks just as his marines got dropped. He might have pulled this off if he had got his marines and tanks there at the same time, having his marines kill the dark templar even if they made it to the tanks, but alas, this wasn't to be. His marines did a little of damage when the dark templar ran off until the comstat wore off, but didn't take out anything of any importance.

(Tiamat), now with only the top left hand island for a mineral source (with his natural mined out), decided to do several things at once. First off, he expanded to the 9 o'clock main again, along with the mineral only at the 12 o'clock position. His expansion to the mineral only was noticed by some dragoons and was taken out rather quickly, while his expansion at the 9 o'clock main was found by gettin_$um when he sent a little search party there just to make sure he didn't try to expand there again. With both his expansion attempts ruined, he send a couple of tanks and marines to the 6 o'clock natural, and took out some cannons before being taken out by some more goons.

With little minerals coming in, (Tiamat) knew it was now or never, so he sent most of his tanks, followed by a handfull of marines charging towards gettin_$um's main. Things looked very promising for (Tiamat) as he took out most of the defending forces at gettin_$um's main, including gettin_$um's most useful asset yet, a group of DTs. As he started to unsiege though, the dragoons that had taken out his expansion at the 12 o'clock mineral, together with those that prevented him from expanding at the 9 o'clock main for a second time came to try and save gettin_$um's main. Quickly sieging the tanks again, he started to blow some of the dragoons into piles of blue goo, but there were to many of them, and his attack fell.

With that attack done, his base was relativly empty, and thanks to gettin_$um's obsevers, he knew this, and ran his remaining dragoons straight to (Tiamat)'s base. The dragoons got by the wall-in since most of the defending tanks were killed of when (Tiamat) sent them to attack. Knowing the game was now over, they exchanged gg's and (Tiamat) left the game.

Post-Game

I am confident that (Tiamat) would have had a good chance to win this if he had a science vessel for detection. Not only did the dark templar do a lot of damage that could have been stoped, but gettin_$um always had a good idea of what (Tiamat) was doing because of his array of observers. (Tiamat) also could have had a better start to the game if he had made a marine or two. It would have saved him a lot of minerals, since he could have scared off the zealots as he repaired his supply depot. By repairing the depot, it did keep him in the game, but ate up a lot of minerals by doing so, and he could have had some extra units out near the start of the game, possibly changing the final result of the game.
