A couple people dropped during it, so we allied in the end - noone lost, noone won. Yet, some things that took place during it were just -too cool-.
The map was the Broken Steppes. It has two starting locations near the middle, and six all around. My team
got right bottom side to themselves, while the other was
stretching across all the other locations, with my
Protoss base put smack in the middle to be assaulted from
all sides. A very good player (no names here, because I don't remember everyone) was on the opponents' team, placed in bottom left corner of the map, as teal Protoss. He
was our priority from the start because everyone was afraid of him. I've decided to cannon push his probe line - on this map, everyone is on high ground, with two chokes in. His probe line was undefended, but teamwork let me down.
My ally lured his zealots out of his base, while my first
3 cannons weren't even done yet. He insisted I attack now while his troops are away, and I did. Which was a mistake. The teal zealots quickly returned, outnumbered them, then killed warping in cannons. Duh.
As if this wasn't enough, I got company in my own base.
Our scouting revealed a brown Zerg and a yellow Protoss (Zerg top left and Protoss top right) as Teal's allies.
Well, a few dragoons and a couple zealots showed up in my probe line but got scared by meager 2 zealots of mine and 2 cannons near nexus. However, they blockaded the minerals.
It was a bad stalemate - they denied me minerals while I didn't let them to kill the rest of my base. I saved all my probes on the other side and made ocasional dashing mineral runs to get just a few extra minerals for an additional zealot to keep making them. More dragoons came... I've asked for help a while ago, and thankfully, in came the mutalisk cavalry, which, along with my few new zealots put an end to this. Our team's Purple Zerg went on a Muta hit-and-run spree, bent on map domination, while our White Terran took out Teal's expansion and then main base with medics and marines. Meanwhile, I was rebuilding like a total dope, with
high-templar tree complete and shuttles starting. Expanded into the gimme and was just happy to be still alive.
This whole game I had problems with unit production - my macro and expanding suffered at the expense of unit control.
I got reaver dropped from yellow. Panicked probes ran away fast (they've done this before you know), and high templar moved into position to storm the shuttle. The shuttle moved away, followed by two of my zealots and one dark templar. The other storm caught him off guard and the reaver inside went down with it.
Shortly, White was tank pushing a Zerg expansion to the north, and asked for high templar cover. Why not. Defensive matrixed high templar look pretty mean, by the way. After the first one I've sent (he didn't do much, standing there recharging all the time in the middle of a blood bath), I've sent my first shuttle with one more high and two dark assassins. The White went heavy Science Vessels and some nukes later on. In the mean time, rebuilt teal sent over 20 zealots and 6-7 high templar to Zerg's aid.
Neither of them brought detection. My two dark assassins
snuck two screens away from our push to their rally point and killed every high templar, one by one. It was sooo classic. Eventually they've chased most of their war effort away, while tanks dealt death to those who decided to charge. The push however, was overrun by guardians. Not enough high templars I guess.
About the same time our Zerg dropped. White was busy fighting with Teal Protoss, which he did well, meanwhile I got some zerg air problems. I could never make enough high templar to storm all those guardians, my corsairs would get shot out of the sky and my macro went to heck while I scrambled to keep my base from blowing up from a wide assault from the north from multiple angles. The overlords who strolled into my base and just hang on its corners watching were pretty obnoxious. Eventually, after losing a couple buildings, and tired of running out of energy, I've merged an archon and wiped out those guardians who strolled too far. My corsair count went up to 8 and it proved enough to hold those things off. White's Science Vessels came in to irradiate things a couple of times... then I had a serious toss breach at the western gate. He had a ton of zealots, few goons and high templar coming in and once he managed to break down the meager defenses there, they came pouring into my base. However, the boys didn't have focus, and just ran around attacking random structures until white came in and help clean it up. My behind was saved again. I put up a couple more gates, made a couple dark archons, researched maelstorm and expanded... and made more high templar.
White parked a couple tanks on my west edge and that helped a lot from future invasions, none of them successful.
As I was scrambling to figure out what am I going to do next (base maintenance became a PROBLEM with a ton of gateways, two stargates and couple expansions with all the upgrades that I could be doing but am not because I'm so busy...),
my gimme was attacked by no less than 12 ultralisks. Two cannons went down and they run into my eastern entrance.
I retreat my probes and park them ON THE CHOKE, in hold position. That bought me a few precious moments to get my dark archons and high templar across the base, while a single ultra was trying to chew through the probes with the rest of those elephants running around looking very smart.
Maelstorm, psi storm, and irradiate from White actually killed all of those things, altho I lost a few templar, zealots and three-four of the ultras managed to inch past the choke into the base eventually. At one point, every
ultra was irradiated! Whew.
After this, we all allied and went home in peace. It was a good game.
Peace, man.
P.S. Anyone wanna gimme pointers on how to macro Toss/Terran army production with minimal effort? I could use more troops in my games. :) |
