"Last in line was Advisor "CB". His nickname was based on "Cattlebruiser", although none of the men were quite sure where the name had come from. Some infantrymen whispered that it came from a particularly bad night back home involving thirteen shots of whiskey, a herd of cattle, and a twenty-two year-old Animal Husbandry major. Others swore on the fact that a bloody cow's head was hung in his locker, a testament of what would happen to the men if they ever got out of line. Whatever the case, CB was fiercely competent."

Well, it seems that my last two fics were not to popular, judging by the laming account hacker who decided to say that I wouldn’t write again… Well, screw him, because this series is going to finish, even if I get zeroes until it’s done. So, onto the report…!

The Adventures of the Hunter III

Chapter 3

“Lets get moving, shall we?” asked Danny.

“Fine,” said Julie.

“Do you need help?” asked Danny.

“No, why?” replied Julie.

“Well, after your injury, I thought you might need some help. But it’s obvious that you heal extremely quickly. Not many people can walk as well as you are the day after being treated for a Hydra spine abrasion…” said Danny.

“So, what’s for breakfast?” asked Julie.

Danny wondered why Julie had decided to change the subject so quickly. It was weird. After his dream, he felt a little paranoid. Maybe he was imagining, or maybe not.

“What breakfast? We need to get to the nearest base and get a transport off this rock,” replied Danny.

They started to head northwest, where Danny’s sensor array had pointed him. Julie wouldn’t know about this base, and Danny would make sure he forgot about it later.

At that moment, a small pack of Zerglings came trotting their way. Danny cloaked and told Julie to stay low. He cloaked, and walked behind them. He had an idea.

Danny shot a small round into one of the lead Zerglings. It stopped and the ones trailing behind crashed into it. For some reason, they separated into two groups, one with the one that he shot, and his followers, the other with the ones who crashed into the one he shot. They then attacked each other. Danny had an idea about what must have gone through their minds:

Zerg leader: “Hey! Why’d you clip me! That stung you $^#&()756.”

Zerg follower: “I didn’t touch you! Why’d you stop?”

Zerg leader: “Don’t lie!”

Zerg follower: “I’m not!”

Zerg leader: “That’s it! I’m going to rip you apart!”

Zerg follower: “Don’t think so.”

And so the following battle occurred. Only one survived, and Danny took it out easily.

“Ok, let’s go,” called Danny.

“You didn’t have to kill them you know!” shouted Julie. “They were only Zerglings!”

“Hey, calm down! Which side are you on?” replied Danny.

“Ok, sorry. I don’t know what came over me…” replied Julie.

“Let’s just keep going. We need to reach that base before nightfall, or else we would have to camp out again. What’s a Zerg patrol unit doing out here anyway? We must be about twenty miles from their nearest encampment,” wondered Danny aloud.

“Maybe they got lost after last night’s battle?” said Julie.

“Yeah, that’s probably it. Maybe we should walk faster,” said Danny.

They arrived at the base just as the sun set. It was beautiful. The cool breeze felt nice against Danny’s suit. The sunset contained deep red, light pink, purple, a warm orange, and a fiery yellow. Danny would remember this. On all of the night’s he’d spent alone, he had never seen anything like this. Danny looked at Julie and thought, “Maybe I’ve been a Ghost for too long. The sunset is a whole lot more beautiful with someone to look at it with.”

“I’ve never heard of this base before. It’s not on any of the maps…” said Julie.

“Have you ever heard of Section 13?” asked Danny.

“Yeah, it’s that old base on Earth that was so secretive, no civilian had ever stepped inside it’s out fencing,” replied Julie.

“Well, this is a lot like that Section, except for the fact that all Ghosts know the password to get in. This is the main base for this planet,” said Danny.

They arrived at the forward gate, where they were greeted by a computer system.

“Please state the reason you have stepped inside the boundary of this area!” said the system.

“This is Ghost 1 reporting a crisis. I have one other soldier with me,” replied Danny.

“Please state the password and you may enter,” said the computer system.

“The password is… ‘Let me in you fucking piece of junk’,” said Danny.

“That’s not a password you moron. What are you fucking thinking? Like anyone would set a passw—“ started Julie.

“Password accepted. Have a nice day.”

“What are you staring at? Come on, let’s go already,” said Danny.

They walked into the encampment and headed to the Command Center, where they were greeted by the Commander.

“Good afternoon. You said you had a crisis situation?” said the Commander.

“Yes, we’d like to report that our home base, 745-0928-1532, was destroyed by a Zerg army,” said Danny.

“Yes, we’ve heard of that. The survivors managed to find their way here with the help of a patrolling Ghost. It was very unfortunate. 58% of the people died, and 31% are currently missing in action. We had also discovered that the attack was set up. We found the spy’s DNA on a Hydralisk spike. Once their mission was over, the Zerg must’ve had no use for him/her…” said the Commander.

“That’s too bad. But, if you don’t mind, we’d like to freshen up and get some sleep,” said Julie hopefully. “Maybe we could get something to eat as well?”

“Yes, yes, of course,” said the Commander. “Have a good night.”

Chapter 4

Danny woke with a start that morning. Something was wrong, but he wasn’t sure what. He walked to Julie’s bunk, but she wasn’t there. He began to search for her.

“JULIE! Where are you? Hello?!? JULIE?!” yelled Danny.

Just as he walked by the Commander’s room, Julie came from behind him.

“What were you doing in the Commander’s room? No-one is allowed in there without the Commander’s consent,” asked Danny.

“I was looking for the report I passed in on the accounts of the battle we were in two days ago. I made a mistake on it and I wanted to correct it,” replied Julie.

“Oh, well then, we should report in to the Starport. We need to sign up for a shuttle off of here as soon as possible,” said Danny.

“Ok, let’s go,” replied Julie.

They walked to the Starport and talked to one of the Shuttle captains. The captain explained that all of the troops who had escaped the battle were being assigned to a new station on another planet that was not as battle hardened. Meaning that there would be less Zerg activity there.

“So, what your saying is that there are NO damn Shuttles leaving the planet that aren’t already full?” asked Danny.

“No, unless you want to leave on a Science Vessel,” replied the Shuttle Captain.

“Fine,” said Danny.

“What d’ya mean? I was joking. No-one wants to fly around with a bunch of science geeks!” said the Shuttle Captain.

“Well, I do, so get it set up. I want off this planet. Where is the Vessel going anyway?” asked Danny.

“Just on a routine sample collection trip. They only stop a couple times on borderline planets to collect samples. Then they stop on Grandine (a planet explicitly controlled by the Dominion, in other words, a planet in the core worlds.). That’s your only chance of getting off on a civilized planet,” replied the Captain.

“Thanks,” said Danny. “When does it leave?”

“In about, oh, twenty minutes, as soon as it finishes refueling,” replied the Captain.

“Ok. Thanks a lot,” said Danny thankfully. “Julie! We leave in about fifteen minutes.”

“Umm, Danny? I need to tell you something. I’m going to stay here. There are many more battles on this planet that I need to fight before I leave. People need my help, and I can’t let them down,” said Julie.

“Well then, I guess I’ll be seein’ ya,” said Danny.

“I’m going to check in with the Commander to get assigned to a group,” said Julie.

“Bye,” replied Danny.

Fifteen minutes later, Danny was on the Explorer class Science Vessel, the Magellan. He reported in to the Captain of the Vessel, Dr. Reacture, and was assigned to the security team.

“Good morning, Doctor. How’s everything going?” asked Danny.

“Everything is going fine, Security Chief Owens. The stars are beautiful today…” replied Reacture.

“Uh, yeah, beautiful, right,” replied Danny.

Danny walked back to his bunk to get some sleep. It had been about 15 hours since his shift finally ended, and he was really tired. He had put his Ghost uniform away, and was now sporting a Security uniform, complete with an ugly brown shirt with his rank on his shoulder, and equally ugly brown pants. When he arrived at his bunk, he saw his bunkmate, John Calhorn, getting dressed in his uniform.

“How’s everything going?” asked John.

“How do you think it’s going. I called my mother yesterday over the Vid-Screen and told her that I was Security Chief. She’s probably telling her friends that I turned into a Backarak smuggler (Backarak is a heavy drug only bought by rich, addicted Governors). She’s so ashamed of me she started sayin’ that I’m a drug dealer. We’re probably the most hated law-enforcers in the free-galaxy,” replied Danny. You could tell that he didn’t like his job very much.

“Haha, very funny. You’d better start remembering that I’ve done this job ever since I was sixteen,” said John.

“So what does that prove? That you’re the MOST hated cop?” asked Danny a little jokingly. “You’d better get to work, you’re shift started about ten minutes ago.”

As John left, Danny took off his uniform and slumped down on his bunk. He fell asleep about five minutes later.
