Clash of the Titans

Welcome to the first game in a best of three series. Our two players, [LoK]-Arctic and {GoH}~Mattkid started a game which I as an obsoholic couldn't refuse to join. Let's see what happend shall we?

Brood Wars..

Tally Ho! Zerg at 12 and 9! Mattkid chose Zerg and spawned at the 9:00 location, and his opponent Arctic randomed to Zerg at the 12:00 spot. Some nice and jolly ZvZ action is heading your way dear reader! :)

Arctic wasted no time and sent his drones off to collect minerals, and when he had spawned a few new drones he pulled the good old extractor trick. His first overlord hatched soon after, and when he had about 12 drones Arctic built a hatchery above his ramp to increase production.

Mattkid made good use of his drones, and soon built an overlord followed by a hatchery in his main at about 12 supply. Since Arctic didn't choose his race, Mattkid doesn't have the comfort of knowing his opponents race until he scouts him.

Mattkid started his spawning pool slightly ahead of Arctic, but the difference was minimal. Both players started mining gas at about the same time. No guts no glory, Arctic thought to himself and started an expansion hatchery at the 3:00 main. He also started upgrading his main hatchery to a lair. Mattkid assumed a more defensive role, as he built his third hatchery above his ramp. He also matched Arctic by getting a lair of his own.

At the moment, Mattkid had about 12 zerglings, largely outnumbering Arctic's two zerglings, but Arctic also had a sunken above his ramp. Arctic started his spire right after his lair finnished, about five seconds before Mattkid did the same thing. I love ZvZ, don't you? Arctic's expansion at 3:00 had finnished by now, but only a few drones were working at the resource fields, mainly focusing on collecting gas for mutalisks.

Guys, how much further is that base? *pant*
Mattkid now explored Arctic's defenses with one of his zerglings, and what he discovered was a few zerglings and two sunkens. The reason for this is that Arctic had moved most of his zerglings to protect his 3:00 expansion, leaving very few defenders at home. This encouraged Mattkid to launch the first attack in the game, consisting of zerglings. The attack force moved into position, and after a telepathic command from the closest overlord they charged Arctic's ramp. The defending zerglings did their best, but they were greatly outnumbered and went down in a blaze of... blood, bones and broken claws.

Them zerglings climb mountains almost as good as Johnny_Vegas!

However, a pack of four blue mutalisks managed to eradicate the intruding zerglings before they destroyed more than the two sunkens he had. Zergling Vs Muta is so unbalanced.

Soon after, Mattkid attacked again with around six zerglings hoping to catch Arctic with his mutalisks somewhere else. These zerglings died, simply because of the fact that Arctic had relocated his 3:00 defenders to his main, giving him a good-sized force of zerglings.

In the words of my generation, UP YOOOOOOURS!!!
As revenge for this insolence, Arctic dispatched six mutalisks to Mattkid's base. The only anti-air there was three spore colonies, two by the peons and one at the ramp, and six scourge. The scourge managed to take two mutalisks down, but only after the spore at the ramp was destroyed. The mutalisks then moved on to the central area of the base, where they destroyed Mattkid's spire from a spot where the spores couldn't reach them.

With his spire down, and no fighting units besides zerglings, Mattkid conceded the game.

Winner: Arctic
