Killing newbs Hello, and welcome to KILLING NEWBIES, something which I hope will turn into a continuing series. Note that I am in no way trying to copy drefsab, or steal ideas or anything from him, and I conceived of this idea independently. That is I did not go read his reports and think, "gee, I could do that" and go do it. My ideas come from a series of pubbie games I played with my friends Quiong and Sh!tty-Peon. I did not have any firm plans in mind during these games, and I just kind of went with the flow. Note that none of these games were made to prey on newbies... that is, I didn't make a game and call it "all newbies come play blah blah", these are legitimate 2on2's and 3on3's, but with highly amusing endings ;) Regardless, I hope you find these as amusing to read as I did to play ;)

Game 1 The offensive nex...er..can...er.. something ;).

I started up a 2v2 with my friend quiong, intending nothing more than opening a can of whoopass upon out opponents. How ever, quiong led off with the ever popular "zealot rush", which caused one of our opponents to quit as soon as he saw the zeals coming towards him. At this point I had been (to steal a quote from heartcutter) "whoring probes like a navy man in Thailand" and I had several thousand minerals, a forge, and a couple of cannons. At this point evil ideas began to percolate through my mind. I quickly sent my probe off on a scouting mission, and once I found the enemy, rushed inside his base, and found a little corner to call my own. Once I found the perfect spot, I began laying down my homestead defenses, namely Cannons! one of my cannons was close enough to assult his refinery. He took bitter offence at this, and sent his massive attack force of … 8 marines. 8 marines don't do so hot against 3 cannons. At this point I had a truly evil idea. Noticing I had several thousand minerals saved up, I began wandering randomly thru his base laying down a nexus everywhere I could. He produced some marines and force fired at one of the warping in nexus, where upon my probe opened up a can of asswhoop on the marines, seeing how they couldn't fire back ;) . By the time I finished with the three marines, the all of my nexi began to warp in. I immediately started probe production. At this point, quiong had realized what I was up to, and his probe ran in to merrily start homesteading other portions of this poor terran base. Once I had three or four probes, I started to attack his marines that were coming out of his 2 barracks. 4 nexi's producing probes > 2 rax producing marines. Shortly after the probe/rine conflict started, my friend sent his entire horde of 50+ probes into the fray, and I did too. His (my opponents) fate was sealed. These are some of the images from the battle:
Beware of scouting peons that dont come back out..
this is really kind of sick isnt it?
i think this violates some kind of constitutional act.. about obscenity on the internet...
imbalance!!
There are a number of conclusions that we can draw from this..:
  1. Protoss>>>>terran
  2. Protoss are obscenely strong and are imbalanced i say!
  3. protoss can own terran even without templers
  4. probes > terran
  5. nexus > terran

Game number two!

While I was playing later, I remember and old trick I used to do.. Offensive hatcheries! When you think of offensive units, hatcheries do not fall high on this list. When you think of offensive buildings, you think of cannons, because cannons are the easiest to sneak into someone's base, due to all you need is a pylon, which warps fairly quickly. However, on bgh, some of the start positions (such as middle right and middle left) go on for a fair while in one direction, and most people don't even notice it goes down there. This is the perfect spot to put your hatchery, as 99% of your opponents will not look down there, and you have plenty of time for your hatchery to spawn. Offensive hatcheries vs terran make a great deal of sense, because 2-3 marines simply do not have the fire power to take down 3+ hatching sunkens, and once the sunkens are hatched, its all over. Even if he has early tanks, he will not be able to stop you, unless he's extremely smart and very good micro/macro. The thing is, sunkens out range marines, and thus bunkers, by one or two units. So even if he drops bunkers in front of you, like you would to stop a cannon push, you can just drop a sunken out of range of the bunker, and rape it. Also note that once he sees your morphing sunkens, or your sunkens hit a building, he will most likely rush all his infantry over there, and get them killed by your sunkens. Once his body of available infantry is dead, he simply cannot make enough troops to counteract the morphing sunkens. You should have a strong econ (20 drones) b4 doing this. Anyways, enough of the theory.

  • Step 1:
It all begins with a simple little hatchery
  • Step 2:
then the hatchery grows and grows!
  • Step 3:
pretty soon we debate who needs more room, my sunkens, or his base
  • Step 4:
my arguements are rather.. sharpy and pointy
  • Step 5:
he seems to understand my postion quite clearly
  • Step 6:
ok, i think ive killed this..metaphoric conversation
  • Step 7:
    ow..
Its that simple =) Note that in the above pics, you smart cookies will already of noticed this, the loser left when i was half way done =( So i continued on razing his base, as i would of if he hadnt left. In the final picture, theres a spore colony under there.. Here is a purty pic of me owning another, different terran with offensive hatcherys.
This is unncescarily large picture. HAve fun downloading.
And here is an entirely pointless and over large pic, showing what my bored partner did while I was making sunkens.
archons dont do so good against sunkens.. 360/30 life/dmg vs 400/40 .. hmm i wonder
As a said, I will hopefully do more reports of this nature, as I fully explore exactly what i can be offensive with ;) Continuing the newbie streak, this is my gosu br of audity-x vs thelosingman. aud = toss 6:00 loser = terran 12:00 After discovering that its fricking impossible to wall of 12:00, loser deals with the zeals that ran thru, and went straight to heavey metal, put a bunhc of tanks around his cliffs, and took his natural. along around here he destryoed a reaver drop. audity took the entire map. after learning that tanks cant hit air units, loser attack aud, unforuntately his ~12 tanks and ~4 gollies ran into 3 carriers, 12 goons, and 2 templer. Couple of gaystorms later, noting was left. and loser quit. ANd there are no pix, b/c it frankly wasnt worth taking pix of. i dont even know why im writing this. oh yeah, now audity-x doesnt lose everysingle br hes in. googog. well.. this explains a lot
