My single source of income, an undefended spread overlooked by fearsome dragoons, their metallic rotating udders hungerly anticipating battle, was under seige. My last plan was simply to die spitefully, something I pride myself for...but why did my plan fail? Everything else had gone so horribly wrong, why couldn't I Just have one last dying wish granted? Why did I have to win? (the above was intended to garner suspense, goading you into reading the rest. what follows will be unrelenting back patting with my 8 limbed automated selfcongradulatron device)
It all started off well enough. The first drone born to the cold world of triskellion kindly prepared tea for the four founding fathers, who sipped it as they continued nibbling upon the delicous mineral crumpets. All was well and right in the world. Yes, life was hard, but hopes for future generations encouraged dilligent labor, and even the construction of a comfortable pool. Bolbous yet jovial peaceloving overlords patrolled over the land, seeking, hoping desperately, to find other intelligent and therefore crumpet loving lifeforms. The dream soon came thundering down.
The defenseless overlord floated gently upon the wind, drifting westernly over the home of what at first appeared to be an enlightened race- the protoss. A congregation of zealots gazed in wonder from below, and first contact with an alien species was made. Suddenly and without provocation, a machine of war exploded forth from a gateway, tearing the life out of the misunderstood overlord. The zealots did nothing to stop it! All hope of peaceful co-existance vanished with the shower of blood that drenched the brutal dragoon below. The tearful cry of the overlord missionary was heard across the land. Yes, blood was spilt, and the zerg prepared to defend themselves.
Having just noticed that it too me three paragraphs to describe an overlord moving from point A to point B, I've decided to use more abridged descriptions from here on. I will also be taking what I am sure will be a standoffish, unbiased stance of the battle, despite my being the victor. Yes, that's right. I won.
pez chose to go with a reasonably fast spawning pool, but did not rush, and decided instead to whip together another hatchery and pump out a lair, hydras, and lurkers. in the meantime, sky began a spread, and mounted a sizable collection of zealots and dragoons, while at the same time working towards reavers and observers. He effectively killed almost all pez's loitering zergling scouts, and stationed units on patrol or nearby all the obvious spreads. pez mounted an all hydra offensivenear sky's home, but never made any headway, holding back after noting he was outnumbered and outclassed. Instead, pez made a few lurkers, hoping to gain the advantage by not being detected. Soon afterwards, the protoss army ran in, neatly cutting apart every hydra and lurker with the aid of an observer, with little or no losses.
pez then made a lunge for mutalisk tech, and spread to the northeast at the same time...but not without sky knowing it. Soon afterwards, pez also began a spread just north of sky's town, and again, sky appeared fully aware of the attempt. a fair amount of what followed is merely a blur. the northeast spread was fully destroyed down to the last larvae, the more southernly spread was swiftly crushed, and a reaver drop almost won free into the workers of pez's only source of income, his home town. By now, sky had acquired psi storm, was working towards corsairs, and planned to spread west of his initial spread to gain an even greater income advantage. In desperation pez threw a few gaurdians, unassisted by other units at the protoss spread, and tried to keep them out of dragoon range by hovering over a cliff. nevertheless, dragoons managed a kill, and wounded several others. Psi storm finished off the rest, and the attack had no impact. At around the same time, pez finished off the garrison that had defeated his first spread, and reclaimed it. Shortly after getting a work force staffing it once more, a reaver dropped, unnoticed by pez, and killed almost all the workers. pez's home was down to 2 mineral chunks, and the spread was no longer being utilyzed. sky now had 2 spreads at work, while pez was approaching an income of zero, with very little surplus, and a miniscule army.
With help of the nydus, the crackling turnaround began. lings darted in to kill the reaver at the spread, and shortly afterwards workers from the home relocated to the spread. confident in his intel, sky had amassed a force of templar and dragoons on a cliff just out of firing range of the spread, and waited for a chance to strike. He soon darted in, sending drones fleeing through the nydus with the threat of psi storm, while the dragoons made short work of the present zerglings. a tide of zerglings then darted back into the fray via the nydus, but were still outclassed by the dragoons...until the drones lended their mighty spittle to finish off the last dragoon and templar, allowing the rest of the workers to come back through the nydus and get to work. pez spent about half his funds making scourge and lings, and the other half making drones to bolster the income. In the meantime, another dragoon/templar offensive was gathering. At about the same time, pez grouped about 20 zerglings west of sky's home. Soon afterwards, another series of images and blurs flashed across the screen. sky attacked the spread yet again...the present zerglings all fell, the workers fled throught the nydus, and a new tide of zerglings appeared on the scene to dodge the psi and stalemate the dragoons. zerglings attacked sky's home, defeating the defenses but doing no serious damage, and another mob of zerglings destroyed sky's younger spread while scourge killed all the corsairs.
A minute later, a new tide of zerglings offended the next gathering storm near the pez-spread, while another mob pushed back into sky's home. Scourge began destroying observers, the fight near the pez spread was mutually destructive, and 3 zerglings persevered in sky's home, nibbling away at his infrastructure. Finally, zerglings came from the North and West to destroy sky's first spread with more nimble psi dodgeing, as his home slowly vanished.
It can only be assumed at this point that pez was performing a well earned comeback dance (with a modified techno-udder disco ball), as sky writhed in the agony of humiliating defeat.
