The Teams:
"The Austrian double :)"
Necrosausage! (random Protoss, white, top right)
BackFired (chosen Protoss, red, top left)
vs
"The pro and the guy that slept most of the time :)"
Antaris (alias Distec) (random Zerg, purple, bottom left)
BugCatcher (random Protoss, white, bottom right)
The Game:
As we both started out as Protoss, and Antaris opted for an early xpansion at his natural, we decided to double-rush him. However, as our 4 Zealots met with 3 Sunkens, we were forced to retreat.
Both me and BackFired then xpanded to our natural, and I did go hard Zealots/Goons with Templar/DT support, while he chose the other way of the tech tree with Reavers
Antaris went for Hydras/Lurkers first, and then mass air, as we found out later, while BugCatcher went pretty same as me, with Goons and Zealots.
Since our early push on Antaris nobody really attacked, so I decided to take the initiative and attacked BugCatcher all alone.
I went to his choke, and found out that he grouped all his Goons and Zealots at his ramp, oh well, good for me that I have storm and he not :)
In goes the first distraction Zealot, and a Templar lets off 2 PsiStorms on his ramp, hitting perfectly in his Zlot/Goon force
In goes the second disctraction Zealot, again 2 storms and blue Goon blood all over.
Revenge! He wanted, and so he attacked out of the safety of his ramp - my Goons/Zealots were just waiting for that and overwhelmed his badly insured force with ease.
I proceeded to raise BugCatchters main, but Antaris brought in 2 Lurkers, and I didnt have Observers yet (and, stupid me, I forgot to tell BackFired to give me one for support)
Well, down goes my attack force, but not before BugCatchers Nexus and all his Probes bite the dust.
It looked pretty good for the Austrian team now, BugCatcher just had the bottom right expansion, and I cleared this one of Probes with a Zlot/Goon drop a little later, while Antaris was just idle (what I didnt know at this point is that Antaris was building up a really huge airforce)
After a lil skirmish, with drops on Antaris' top left island expansion (this was our biggest problem in that game - they had both islands and we could never get them...)
Antaris attacks...
Suddenly, the sky turned black, it was totally covered by, I think around 20 Mutas with really heavy Devourer support. I just had 4 Corsairs at this time, and BackFired did not even have a StarGate, so it looked not too good...
While Antaris was hitting and running on the Probes at my natural xpansion, BackFired had a great idea to counter the Mutas (Antaris was excellent at evading storms) - DA with maelstrom!
Antaris meanwhile stopped the hit-and-run (no more probes to target )-:, and directed his airforce to my ally for an all-out-assault on his main.
The big airforce arrived, still dozens of Mutas with heavy Devourers, but now also Guardians.
And this was were maelstrom showed its true power - I brought a Shuttle with one DA and two Temps to help my ally, and he had 2 DA and lots of Goons, and the slaughter begun...
Maelstrom - about 7 Mutas cant move - PsiStorm - 7 Mutas die
Maelstrom - about 4 Guardians cant move - PsiStorm and Goons - 4 Guardians die
Maelstrom - lots of Devourers/Mutas cant move - PsiStorm and Goons - lots of exploding Zerg bodies and blood everywhere
Finally my 5 Corsairs moved in to pick off the remainers, and finally, no zergish brood was left standing. I could not believe it! We just beat the biggest airforce in this game, Antaris should never again have such a strong airforce...
I was our turn to attack now - so we chose to attack Antaris' natural. My ally brought lots of Dragoons with heavy Reaver support as well as more than just a few Archons, while I supported him with Zealots, Goons and Templars, and we could destroy Antaris' natural, but some newly formed Guardians on the cliff above picked off the survivors of the battle (see screenshot)
It must have been around here, that Antaris, depressed by the passive play of his ally, stated "Tell my ally that I dont like 2v1s!!!"
I xpanded at my gimmie around here...
A few skirmishes later, (mainly drops of us on the two island xpansions, causing some damage but never totally killing the xpansions), we decided to attack again Antaris, who had now also xpanded at his gimmie
We went in and had a great battle again (two screenshot in the battle shots section), maelstroming all the time and killing the expansion, and then something very strange happened: Enemy Protoss forces went in and killed my forces. At first, I thought BackFired was backstabbing, but then I realized that there is a 3rd Protoss in the game - Antaris' ally (He was really doing NOTHING aggresive till here, so I really forgot him, BackFired was totally confused first when I asked him why he was killing my forces :)
BugCatcher became really aggressive now - the next thing he did was dropping about 16 Goons with Templar support at BackFireds main (wow, that were a LOT of shuttles), BackFired kept them off with the help of one of BugCatchers Templars who was converted to the right side with MindControl
We were in good shape now, Antaris only had one mined-out main and his island xpansion, and we just killed BugCatchers forces.
The next thing I did was to lay DWeb at the Cannons that were guarding BugCatchers natural, but as my Zealots went down there to finish them, they found a newly morphed Hatchery from Antaris at BugCatchers gimmie, which was quickly killed. The rest of the brave Zealots proceeded to BugCatchers' still DWebbed cannons, but were gunned down by Dragoons (BugCatcher built a LOT of Dragoons in this game :)
The game ends...
The final assault: Antaris seems to be out of ressources, since his airforce is never rebuilt and he only has small ground forces now, me and my ally prepare for the last, lethal blow, when all of a sudden about 10 Queens fly towards BackFireds base. After a few Feedbacks from me and my allies DAs, there were no more Queens here, 3 or so escaped the slaughter :)
But what were this Queens supposed to do here? - We found out only a second later, when the force they were supposed to support arrived - at least a dozen of Shuttles filled exclusively with Dragoons - the ground was COVERED with yellow-teal spider-like beings.
Hell brake loose! - BackFireds Dragoons, heavily outnumbered, were fighting the enemy, and it looked very bad, till my Temps went in and stormed on the Dragoons - and then the decisive factor in this battle was thrown out by BackFireds Shuttles - Reavers! BugCatchers Dragoons, heavily hurted by PsiStorm and enemy Goon fire, were totally eaten by Scarabs, and soon the battlefield turned blue of all this goon blood...
After all of his Goons were destroyed, BugCatcher was dropped from the game (disconnect?), and me, BackFired and Antaris were left alone on the almost outmined (at least the gas ressources were down) LostTemple map...
We agreed to ally up, and shared our "gg"s, and I have to say that this was not only a "good game", but a GREAT game :-D
Lessons learned:
1) Maelstrom rocks! - Mutas can run away from storm, but only if they are not maelstromed - there is nothing more satisfying than killing a dozen Mutas with one storm while they cant move out, and an unupgraded, full DA can cast it TWO TIMES in a row
2) Feedback rocks! - It was amazing how this Queen army went down to a few Feedbacks - and you can cast it FIVE TIMES with a full DA
3) Reavers are still worth their money - they are just no more an early/mid game weapon, but in late game, when you can really support them, they can decide the decisive battles
| | Battle Shots! | Antaris' natural is destroyed, but his Guardians save him, for now...
Bug Hunters big attack force - my ally beat him back with PsiStorm from his own and his Templars (converted with MC :)
Antaris natural is about to fall, and a few Mutas wait for the PsiStorm which will kill them...
Wow, maelstromed a LOT here, good that I had a full Templar with storm nearby :)
