Welcome to my...uh...6th? 7th? something like that report. While the pics load, you can listen
to some more of my mindless jabber.
Well, 10//27/00, Friday, I was looking for a good game to BR. anyway, I created a FFA with four people
on Bobs Obs Winter Conquest. If you've ever played that map, you know it's screwed up since the
observer automatically gives the players vision... So that's failure #1.
Next, LuckyNewbie:P created a FFA on Close Encounter. It was a 4FFA, and one person got dropped.
They had a very good game going, but thats when I hit the 100 pic mark. As I selected all the pics,
I clicked on one, intending to use it to drag it all to a folder... Unfortunately, my computer
decided this would be a good time to load all 100 pics at once. You should have seen my taskbar...
anyway, that was enough lag to get me dropped.
Try number three; Lucky again created an FFA on Polaris. This time, six people joined, so it
was a 6FFA. It was pretty interesting, but right when the first combat, a reaver drop was about
to take place, AOL whipped out the gayness machine. I was sucked out of the game before you could
say "Llamas are cool." ::sigh::
As I rejoin the channel, the players arrive back at different times and comment on my "Bad Manner."
Screw that...anyway, R.A.G.E. was now spamming for 1v1/2v2. |MaNiAcMaRiNe| and ^Nuitari^, two
players from the 6FFA took up his challenge. However, R.A.G.E. didn't have a partner, and LuckyNewbie:P
refused to play a game with |MaNiAcMaRiNe| in it. Instead, it ended up with R.A.G.E. vs. LuckyNewbie:P
1v1...
AND THIS ONE WORKED!
And, so I present,
High Tide Low Tide
Vital Info:
The players:
LuckyNewbie:P randomed to brown zerg at 9:00.
R.A.G.E. randomed to yellow terran at 3:00.

The Map: Bobs Obs The Lost Temple (No explanation needed)
LuckyNewbie:P started with an expansion hatch, pool, extractor, and a sunken at his expansion.
He then makes a Hydra Den and evolves a lair, probably going for lurkers.
R.A.G.E. went depot, barracks, refinery, depot (walling in), depot, and a factory. This was
followed by a starport, so I suspected a turbo-newbie. He has been pumping marines from one barracks.
First blood and other stuff
As soon as his first tank finishes, R.A.G.E. moves out with one tank and eight marines. An
interesting note here is that he has no academy, and therefore no comsat. He also has no
engineering bay and no turrets. Anyway, he moves to a spot around LuckyNewbie:P's mineral
only and sieges up. However, when I look back in his base, he is already working on a science
facility! He is also constructing another barracks, and sends the lone wraith he has constructed
to LuckyNewbie:P's base. What does LuckyNewbie:P have?
Actually, he has about 6 lings and 4 non-upgraded hydras, so the wraith has a field day, killing
three overlords before being chased away. However, as it is being driven away, I see this:
Keep in mind that R.A.G.E. has just started his comsat. As the lurker finishes,
LuckyNewbie:P charges! His lings go in first, followed by his lurkers.

As you can see, there is a dropship on the scene... and the tank has disappeared. I wonder...
The Tide Turns
On sight of Newbie's attack force, R.A.G.E. begins to march back to his base. However, speedlings
manage to eliminate all but two of his marines during the march. Meanwhile, the terran tank
has taken up a spot on LuckyNewbie:P's plateau and starts pounding on the natural. In response,
LuckyNewbie:P begins a spire and counters with about 20 lings, 2 lurkers, and two hydras. R.A.G.E.'s
natural, which has just been completed, is forced to lift off.
Despite his lack of turrets, his first science vessel has popped out of the starport,
providing ample detection. In the end, there are about 16 SCV's and 8 zerglings. R.A.G.E.
shows good micro and patience, running his SCV's around while the wraith takes pot shots.
Despite this, a wraith takes a while to kill eight lings, and LuckyNewbie:P has time to send
reinforcements of four hydras. Upon arriving, two of them start the lurker morph. In
desparation, R.A.G.E. sends his SCV's to eliminate the eggs, and they actually succeed in
killing one egg and the other demorphs in the nick of time.
LuckyNewbie:P finally adds a 3rd hatchery,
as his spire completes. He immediately hatches two mutas, which take care of the cliff tank.
Unfortunately, LuckyNewbie:P has already lost everything at his expansion, and immediately restarts
the expansion hatchery. He continues to send harassment lings at R.A.G.E.'s base, which proceed
to do a lot more than you would expect. However, R.A.G.E.'s force of now one wraith, one vessel,
five marines, two medics, and one tank are able to hold off all assaults for now.
The Tide Turns again
LuckyNewbie:P's mutas arrive and he begins yet another assault. 5 zerglings and 2 mutas get through
the ramp defense and start beating on R.A.G.E.'s base.
However, with the help of a D-Matrixed wraith and two repairing SCV's, he fights it off with the
loss of two barracks.
As this assault ends, LuckyNewbie:P adds another hatchery at his natural, as R.A.G.E.
lands his expansion CC and adds a comsat. R.A.G.E. starts moving out his force of 6 marines,
two medics, two tanks, and two science vessels. LuckyNewbie:P has added a 5th hatchery in his
main and also added an evolution chamber. Near R.A.G.E.'s choke, LuckyNewbie:P has about eight
hydras, one lurker, and two scourge. R.A.G.E. blows through this containment, only losing one marine.

He also adds two engineering bays at home for upgrades, while LuckyNewbie:P expands at the
12:00 main with two hatcheries.
R.A.G.E. continues to push towards LuckyNewbie:P's base, losing almost nothing.
MINIMAP UPDATE:
LuckyNewbie:P tries to stop the push...
But is DENIED
Things look bleak for our favorite newbie...
The Tide Turns version 3.0
This time, LuckyNewbie:P's 12:00 base saves him. a few lings and lurkers annihilate the attacking force.
LuckyNewbie:P immediately sends his forces on a counter at R.A.G.E.'s natural. It's not a pretty
sight, as LuckyNewbie:P's lurkers rape the SCV's R.A.G.E. then says "GG." I wonder why, and
then I see that he is mined out.
There is one more battle of lings vs. wraiths, but the lings just kill too fast.
Scores & Lessons Learned
Lessons Learned:
- Always scout for expansions. R.A.G.E. had LuckyNewbie:P if he had found the expansion at 12:00
earlier.
- Never give up. There were at least three times in the game where one side said gg and the
game suddenly changed direction.
- Don't use AOL. AOL sux nuff said
Thanks again!
