I've just rediscovered this dusty CD called STARCRAFT in my shelves and I decided to play it with my neighbor as usual. So, removing the Diablo II CD from my drive, I almost jumped for joy and excitement when I saw the opening Intro screen for STARCRAFT (The one with the three races.) I decided not to reinstall Brood Wars because I don't like the imbalance in that expansion. Anyways, here goes...
MAP: The Hunters (NOT BGH)
PLAYERS:
ME (Hellspawn) (Random) = Terrans (I play this race the worst and Protoss the best.)
My friend (APE) (Zerg) = He almost never plays with other races. This is his best race.
4 computers (all random) = 2 Zergs, and 2 protoss players.
I spawned at 5:00 while my friend spawned at 1:00. The computers spawned at 6:00, 7:00, 9:00 and 11:00 (Funny how they all start right beside each other and a Zerg beside me too. I found this out later in the game of course)
After 2 months of not playing SC, I was at a lost. I had forgotten how to play Terrans!! I built a Supply Depot at my choke point at 8 and then built a barracks. I assigned another to build another Supply Depot and then used the one that just finished the barracks to completely block my choke point (I know I know, what a newbie, but seeing that I won't be seeing any siege tanks...) I also did this to exploit the weakness in enemy AI. I built a bunker behind the Depots and filled it with marines. Soon the first wave of zealots came, running in front of the base never attacking the Depots (Uh-oh I sense some flames on this part.) They were running their like sheep and were promptly getting shot to pieces. I build another barracks and filled another bunker with marines. This was just in time for the hydra attack I so expect the computer (and most humans) to make. Of course they were also shredded. Sometime during this fighting (I wasn't paying attention to the front since the bunkers got it all covered) I have built a Refinery and an Academy. I researched the U-238 shells and promptly built 2 Factories as soon as I had the resources. My ally had expanded while I remained snugly turtled. Soon some tanks joined my defenses and the front was really impenetrable. I built an Engineer bay and 2 starports at the same time. I had a problem on how to expand with my choke all choked up so I solved it by building Dropships. I filled one with 2 siege tanks and the other with marines and took my natural expansion. I sent some more to ensure maximum protection. Meanwhile, I was being harassed by protoss scouts, dragoons and zealots. They were nicely chopped up by my tanks (I have sent 2 more and transferred the 2 I had camped to the expansion.) But I took a LOT of casualties. I had to constantly ferry marines to the front and this was taking up a lot of my time.
My ally is meanwhile attacking the 11:00 zerg which he managed to destroy. Unfortunately, a bunch of protoss enemies attacked his expansion which was very lightly defended (the fool) The expansion quickly fell to a combined air and ground assault. He opted to split his force, with half continuing to destroy the 11:00 zerg and the other half for a relief mission on his base.
He made the same mistake as Hitler, and thus, his forces were ambushed on the way back to his base by a second protoss mobile division. His only consolation was that he ravaged the 11:00 zerg completely, although elements from the protoss reinforcements were on their way to destroy the much-damaged Hydras.
I meanwhile have prepared my airborne rangers division consisting of 4 dropships w/ 16 marines and 4 tanks. I dropped them north of my expansion and quickly destroyed a protoss expansion base.
I left the forces there to guard until I bring the SCV to build a command center. it wasn't much of a victory since almost half the minerals were already gone.
Meanwhile my friend was really suffering.
The protoss have breached almost a third of his base before he was able to drive them back. I brought 2 dropships full or marines to his base to give him support but an enemy reaver drop, psionic storm and a carrier made sure they didn't last long.
Meanwhile, the 22nd Airborne Division I left to guard the middle was systematically being decimated. I sent some reinforcements of marines so that I could hold the position but was turned back when a bunch of ULTRALISKS!!! sliced my tanks in half. Their storms took care of the marines I had.
My ally was almost finished. He sent an overlord to my base and built a hatchery between my main and my natural. How pathetic. The situation was hopeless but we decided to fight till the bitter end.
I dug in and sent some more tanks to my expansion, waiting for the inevitable. I didn't have to wait for long.
Three armies attacked with around 4 carriers, half a dozen scouts (or so), a lot of zealots and dragoons and a whole bunch of hydras.
My marines fought to the bitter end, their stimpacks long since dry, smashing their rifle butts on Hydralisks while impaled... you get the picture..
The tanks were smashed open by strafing interceptors and so the expansion was gone. then my friend's "BASE" got destroyed. (Wow, it served as a wall.. very nice.)
Well I won't bore you with all the details on how my base got destroyed. My bottom line is: Terran is FUN to play with. I loved assigning names and stuff to the units (kinda wierd huh?) But its fun cuz I could relate to it more. So anybody can give me comments on how to improve with Terran (especially with The Hunters map cuz we love this map hehehe [better than BGH!])
SOME INTERESTING FACTS:
Average Marine survival time during "peace" periods in starcraft: 5 minutes.
Average Marine survival time when dropped or sent to combat:7 seconds.
hehehe, these guys have the ATTITUDE, the INTENSITY, the GUTS, but unfortunately, no firepower. What's their power armor made from anyway? Plastic?
Any comments would be welcome. |
