For all of you, who will no doubt post in the comments section how much "better" this post would be with pictures. Might as well leave now. I do these posts for people like myself, who come to BR.com, looking for maybe new strats, or ways to counter other strats. So once again..This is text only. Don't like it? Leave.
The Setup
I was sitting around NoHunters yesterday, when I decide to ask someone for a game. CyanBlood (sorry I can't remember full name...too long heh) accepted, and I made the game.
WarLeaderJustin joined in to observe the battle.
The Beginning
Map Name: Lost Temple
Player 1: DRAG0ON- (chosen) Protoss, 9 position
Player 2: CyanBlood- (random) Terran, 6 position
Observ 1: WarLeaderJustin- Crazy Babbler, Lift off position
My nexus warped in, and I set my 4 probes to work, while getting another probe queued in the nexus. At this point I try to trick CyanBlood into thinking there was some bug, and I was actually given Terran instead, but he's too smart. He told me he was going to 9 pool me, so I figured he was Toss or Terran ;)
I did my usual vs Random BO:
6th probe scouts
7th probe pylon
9th probe gateway
10th probe gateway
zealot
pylon
I had decided to scout clockwise so I found CyanBlood in the last place I looked. Just as I had arrived, he had completed his choke, and I could not get in. Now seeing he had walled himself in, I decided to expand to the 12 mineral natural. Now your probably wondering "why'd he expand there?", well mostly because the placement of the natural let's get me get a base and going, and is rarely scouted till later. I build 2 gateways and a cannon at my expansion, and began teching up to stargates.
First Bloo...Soup
About this time, I look to the bottom of my main base, and see a big red square. I click down to see an engineering bay floating there. I send 4 or so goons to attack the bay, when they suddenly come under tank fire from across. Seeing as I did not have goon range upgrade yet, I retreated. Suddenly my gateways came under fire. Appears another tank had been dropped at in the crevice between the 2 bases, and was firing upon my base with the e-bay spotting. Not being one to just by and let this happen, I realize I have height advantage and charge over to attack his tank. Now this is the annoying part about dragoons...as I went to attack the tank in the valley, his tank from his main also fired upon the incoming Dragoons, making them do a square dance in my main base.
Frustrated as I could be, I decide to send two Dragoons at a time, and kill the tank in the valley, with the loss of 2 goons. More Dragoons pop out of my gateways, and I keep them nearby incase a similar move is tried again. I also take this time to expand to the 12 main, and I send a zealot over to 9 o'clock to check for expansions, which there are none. So I keep the trusty warrior stationed at the choke. Soon after another tank attempt is made on my base from the valley, but is dispersed.A dropship unloaded it's cargo of 2 vultures, 3 marines, and a medic shortly after and began to plant mines around my base. I took care of the threat with minimal losses of 2-3 goons, and placed a cannon near my probe line. Another attempt was made, but destroyed. I began to make scouts from my stargate, to deter anymore drops, and also for scouting the islands.
You push me..I push back
The 12 main was now up and running, and I place 2 gateways there for man power. It is about this time, that CyanBlood attacks the 12 o'clock mineral natural, with several troops. I have about 3 zealots and 3 dragoons there to defend, and I lose a zealot and a dragoon. Then to my horror, arclite blasts beging to rain down on my troops at the 12 mineral natural. I engage but am stopped by 3 tanks in a triangle type positioning with a bunker,2 medics, and a turret in the middle. Seeing the positioning of the tanks, I decide to flank them. I send 7-8 dragoons from my 9 o'clock main, 4 dragoons from my 12 o'clock mineral natural, and 6 dragoons from 12 o'clock main. I had them all run in at the same time, so they could face each tank solo, without the other 2 supporting. The terran outpost is almost destroyed, before reinforcements arrive and secure it once more. About this time CyanBlood decides how much better the map would look if it was covered with mines, and begins to do so =p. Suddenly I find myself trapped in my bases. I could not engage the tanks without the mines and vultures deciding to rip me a part.
Hell From Above
During this I had also began observer production so I could spot for mines. As my first observer floated over the metallic grounds of the jungle, I realized how CyanBlood seemed to have negated air support. I immediately begin Carrier Production. I checked the island bases, and found no signs of life on the top island, but the bottom island has a nexus and several SCV's mining. I harassed the scv's before losing focus and going back to my main base to check on the carriers. When I clicked back, I saw that CyanBlood had constructed a turret, so I moved my scout away from it, and began to harass the CC. He eventually constructed more, and my scout was forced to flee with 50 health left. I had kept up carrier production out of the 1 stargate, and I also decided to expand to the top island. The island had just come online, when I saw a comsat go off on it. The colorful sparkles amazed my probes until I smacked them back awake. Fearing a drop would come soon, I started up to pylons, and picked up 2 dragoons at my main to be dropped off at the island. No drop came, but it was still good to have defense. I send my 3 carriers to the 12 o'clock main, which had recently been starting to get harassed by Cyan's tanks and vultures, when I wasn't paying attention he'd run vultures up the ramp to do hit and run techniques, tricked my units out to die to arclite blasts. I sent over my carriers, and killed 2 tanks before wraiths arrived to deter me. I had observer nearby so as I retreated my carriers I sent my dragoons to knock the flying mosquito's from the air, 2 wraiths fell before fleeing.
Pick Them off, 1 by 1
I decided I had gotten sick of this mine contain, so I sent an observer out to the 12 o'clock choke area, and began to kill the little buggers. A few mini battles took place, in which I lost a carrier to those damn Goliath bastards. I retreated my 2 remaining carriers, but had 3 more carriers from my main meet up with them at 12. I also built 2 shield batteries at 12 for replenishing my damaged flying blimps.
Eventually I was able to force my way out, with carriers destroying mines and tanks, and my dragoon forces providing support..or is it the other way around...no matter. I was soon able to push his tank containment back to the 6 o'clock mineral natural.I remembered spotting a CC building at 3 o'clock so I sent my dragoon and carrier forces their to engage. I lost a carrier and several dragoons, and he lost most if not all his goliaths placed there (around 8-12). The base was razed and I sent more dragoon reinforcements from my main and attempted to attack the 6 o'clock base, but my forces were killed faster than I had anticipated. With few losses to him. I gather up more dragoons, but instead I send my 6 carrier fleet over to the bottom right island expansion to take out anymore sources of income. It was burned to the ground quickly and conversation soon started up about the Imbalance of TvP. I said it wasn't too imbalanced from what I've read of HeartCutter's BR's and how he plays against protoss, but CyanBlood said he was 2-1 vs HeartCutter so I guess maybe there is an imbalance =^0.
I placed my carriers above the cliff's of the 6 o'clock natural, and distracted his goliaths and marines while my dragoons and 2 templars raced in and, laid waste to his remaining army. "Nuclear Launch Detected", I almost screamed when I saw this and frantically searched the attacking dragoons for any red dots..I also sent my carriers back from the cliff due to the fact that flying units hide the dot.Suddenly an explosion at the 12 o'clock main sent my scrolling up there, and I see most my buildings in flames.Heh well CyanBlood got some revenge I guess. I eventually pushed into his base, we said our GG's and he left the game.
Lessons Learned:
*I had sent many waves of dragoons out to destroy his tank push, in the end I resorted to carriers. Carriers+corsairs, mixed with dragoon support seems to work very well vs terran
(with the corsairs have d-web of course)
*If a terran is going heavy metal, you should deny him expansions as much as possible (you should anyways but especially in this case) the gas required for tanks and goliaths is pretty draining.
*Maybe I should start making DA's more to feedback them damn d-matrixing SV's
Hope you enjoyed the BR
