MARVEL VS CAPCOM 2

Hey everyone. It's been a loooong time since I last submitted a report (about 2-3 months), and since this is my second report ever, I have decided to try something new. Since almost ALL the reports sent to this site are related to strategy, I will focus on a game thats part of a series that I have loved for a very long time. Yup, you've guessed it...it's Marvel vs Capcom 2. The other games of the series include X-men vs Street Fighter, Marvel vs Streetfighter, and Marvel vs Capcom. For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, I will explain. The games that I have mentioned above are pumped-up versions of the Street Fighter games. But instead of having one fighter throughout two rounds, you have up to 3 fighters, switching off in battle whenever you like. The games I will report on will be ones played in the arcade versions. (sorry, no screenshots)

The game will be one that my friend Jim played.

(Note: Believe it or not, I actually took notes on this game, so the details are quite deep)
As one more challenger steps away from the arcade machine dejected, the triumphant champion sneers at his back. The guy has been beating up on just about anyone who steps up to the machine with "MARVEL VS CAPCOM 2" drawn on it. Jim and I have been watching for about 20 minutes, unsure whether to use our precious quarters to lose. Finally, Jim musters up the courage to step up to the machine. The guy who has been playing gives him a sideways glance, as if not caring who fought him.

I stare at the guy who I think my friend will lose to. He is about 5'8", with hair slicked back with mousse. He has an arrogant sneer on his face at all times, and I'm pretty sure I can smell the heavy scent of Old Spice about him.

Jim slips in two quarters, and the character select screen pops up. For his first character, Jim chooses Cyclops. For his second character, he chooses Psylocke (ooh shes hot), and finally, he chooses Wolverine. The other guy's fighters are Hayato, Rogue, and Jill. And off we go!

The stage pops up, the background a barren desert with a few cactuses. Cyclops and Hayato jump in, do their showoff thang, and the fight starts.

Cyclops, steps back to the edge of the screen (Jim starts off on the left side, and the other guy is on the right) and fires off an optic beam. Hayato blocks and super jumps. He lands next to Cyclops, crouches and hits him with a weak kick, setting him up for a combo. Cyclops is stunned for a crucial second, and Hayato unleashes a ground combo that ends with a Hyper Combo move. He got about 12 hits on that combo. About 1/4 of Cyclops' health is depleted. Things are not looking good.

Jim quickly recovers, and jumps to the right side of the screen. He dashes in and uses Cyclops' launcher to launch Hayato into the air, he then does an air combo that has about 8 hits. Hayato's master is irked. Hayato jumps up, comes down on Cyclops with his sword sticking out. Cyclops blocks, and does the same air combo again. Hayato quickly switches out. In comes Jill.

Cyclops is ready though. As soon as Jill comes in with feet kicking, Cyclops blocks. Jill does her flashy entrance stance and is vulnerable for a moment. Cyclops unleashes a mega optic blast, a HUGE laser thing that fills the entire screen. Jill is blasted to hell and back, and almost half of her life is taken. The guy slicked his hair back with one free hand and swore under his breath. I think that he had some magical potion in his hair that allowed him to play better or something because as soon as he came back to his joystick, he unleased about 3 sets of combos on Cyclops, effectively "killing him." So now Jim has 2 fully healed fighters left, while the guy has 2 half dead fighters and one fully healed guy left.

Jim takes a deep breath as voluptuous Psylocke jumps in. I check the time counter at the top of the screen. 56 seconds left.

As Psylocke jumps in, Jill immediately tries to do the super move where she fires 839270572306023402123 rockets at her opponent. However, Psylocke is able to jump above the volleys, and ends up behind Jill, who is still doing her move. Psylocke does a SUPERGOSU combo, starting on the ground and ending in the air with a super move. 23 hits. Jill, of course, is knocked dead. :)

Back comes Hayato, with his super-long....sword. He tries to launch Psylocke into the air, but his attacks are blocked. Psylocke then tries to knock him into the air in response, but is instead tossed across the screen. Hayato then charges in, does a low kick, and catches Psylocke with his sword. Up goes Psylocke, and Hayato does another number on her. There is about 31 seconds left.

Hayato then tries to dash in again, but instead meets the foot of Wolverine, who jumps in to replace Psylocke just in time. Wolverine does a super-jump, and lands behind Hayato, Hayato tries to do a sword uppercut, but is blocked. As he comes down, Wolverine crouches and unleashes his super move, where he scratches the shit out of his opponent's ass. Hayato is blown across the screen with only about a pixel of life remaining. The guy gets desparate and summons Rogue.

For some odd reason, Wolverine stays away from Rogue, and stays in his corner for a while. Rogue dashes in, and Wolverine prepares to block. But Rogue gets in close and tosses Wolverine across the screen. This time, Wolverine charges at Rogue, but Rogue performs her super move just as Wolvie reaches her. The super move kicks in, and Rogue does a computer-guided combo that ends with a kiss on the lips (slurp). Now Wolverine is angry. However, he gets more reckless, and Rogue takes advantage by doing several more combos. Finally, Rogue finishes Wolvie off by doing team super combo (ouch).

So now its Psylocke all by herself, with only about half her life left, stuck with Rogue and Hayato. Psylocke, however, manages to save the day. I glance at the time. Shit. 12 seconds left. Rogue tries to call in Hayato to bust up Psylocke, but just as he comes in, Psylocke unleashes her super move. This particular move sends trillions of little "butterflies" in all directions. Needless to say, Hayato is promptly molested by these small butterflies. But the beautiful part of this move, is that Rogue is still on the screen at the time Hayato starts to jump in, so the butterflies hit BOTH of them. Rogue's life is dropped severely. Jim realizes he can win if he stalls because he now has more life than Rogue. Psylocke does a series of super jumps while Rogue desparately tries to catch up to her and do some damage. Unfortunately, the clock ticks down to 0 and Psylocke is the winner of one of the most intense matchups I have ever seen.

The words that I have used to describe this matchup is not enough to give you the actual feeling of the fight. Both contestants were sweating during the entire fight, and the graphics blazed, giving a nice contrast to the darkness of the room. Anyway, I hope you have enjoyed, and for those of you that have no idea what I have just reported on, leave your computers for a couple hours and spend a few dollars worth of quarters on Marvel vs. Capcom. Have a nice day.
