Hey everyone! I am feeling in the Battle Report mode today. So I have two
games to share with you.

Learning from Mistakes

Game 1

Map: Lost Temple

werd~protector AKA ProtectorOfaiur vs Fox^1

POA went random and received zerg at the 12 position. I also went random and received toss at the 3 position. Since I hate zerg with a passion when playing toss. I went for a zealot rush. Here is my build order

7 Pylon
8 Gateway
9 Gateway

Scouting with my probe on 7 trying to delay the early hatchery. I got lucky and found him at 12. Doing a counterclockwise search. Now you’re probably wondering. Why would I go for a zealot rush when I didn’t know he was zerg. Well if he was not zerg and was terran, then I would still be ok. I felt confident that if POA was terran that I could still beat him. If he was Protoss then I would be behind him in resources, but I think that even if I knew he was toss I would be at a disadvantage considering it’s his primary race. So this build was a good call.

Of course I found him at 12 harassed the hatchery and force him to bring 2 drones down to get that hatchery at the choke. Already zealots started to come. He didn’t have his spawning pool yet, and more zealots came. He finally got lings and tried to fend me off with them but it didn’t work. More zealots came and the hatchery fell.

When I was pounding on the hatchery and right before it went down, I started an expansion myself, getting gas, and a cyber core. I was still getting zealots, and then changing to dragoons, and adding a forge. I left a probe at POA’s natural to see when he was going to expand, and counter it. I also added 3 more Gateways bringing my total to 5.

Mistake 1

I had a small force of zealots and goons. I decided to scout for other expansions. When I did I ran into a hatchery morphing and lings/hydras protecting it. I didn’t have enough units to take his large force of lings. Most of my units were now Goons. But I didn’t mind that much since I had my expansion going. I waited to get myself reavers and then just easily push out.

My mistake there was thinking because I had the early expansion advantage over him, that I could just sit back. But he could expand at will, and by the time my reavers came he would have an equal or superior resource intake. If I had built an Citadel instead of a robo and researched speed, and kept pumping zealot/goons then I could easily have taken the offensive hatchery much early and scouted/destroyed any expansions he had going. IMHO.

I finally got 2 reavers and pushed my way out the of the hatchery and immediately got and expansions at my mineral only. Then took my reaver, I had 2 but lost 1 one the push, and checked for expansions. I noticed that he had the 9. I quickly dispatched the drones there with no problems and pounded on the hatcheries. Some hydras came to remove my reaver and I flew it off. I also added 2 forges and started to get Templar tech as well as 3 more gateways bringing my total to 8.

Mistake 2

I left his expansion with both hatcheries still there. Which would enable him to get drones and mine there. Also he had his natural going, I knew this because my probe there had gotten killed and it was logically that he would be placing and expansions there. If I had sent more units after my reaver found the 2 hatcheries I would have been able to raze both of them, thus making POA spend 300 more if he really wanted an expansions there, not to mention the time to build it.

I started to mass zealots/goons/templar. I just kept massing them and waited for my time to strike. I had 3 expansions to his 3 and I felt that I had the answer. Little did I know.

Mistake 3

With the large force that I had I didn’t even scout. I was getting obersers. I also did not get any expansions at the 6, which I could easily get and protect with my force in the middle. When I finally did scout with observers/zealots I noticed he had the 9 natural running as well as the 12 mineral only. Making the count of expansions 4 to 2.

This was not good for me. I attempted to make a push on POA’s natural with my force and was rather successful. I was able to take the natural down with a good resistance from POA, but with storm I came out on top. I also started an expansion at the 6 natural.

Mistake 4

There this thing called macro. When you build your units while you’re fighting. I had razed POA’s base, but I didn’t have any reinforcing units. POA was able to not only destroy my 6 but was able to easily kill what was left of my attacking force with his reinforcements and take the natural again.

I knew that the game was slipping from me. I had the advantage early, POA has made no mistakes from what I saw accept for losing the hatchery. But he was now in the lead on me, and it was becoming less likely that I was going to catch up.

Mistake 5

Then POA sent wave after wave after wave after wave of Cracklings which ended the game. My mistake was

A) Thought that my buildings could fight off cracklings.
B) Playing against POA he owns me =[

If I had done those things that I mentioned, wouldn’t have meant that I would have won. What it does mean is that next time, when put into that situation, I will do much better and maybe come out on top.

 and I have had a good rivalry of late and D2 was out and NH was kind of empty. So then  and I decided to play one. We were both a little rusty. Crazy chose the map Fading Realm to play, which wasn't bad. I practiced on this map before because it was really balanced and I wanted to get good at other maps.

Game 1

Map: Fading Realm

 vs Fox^1

 went with random and received terran at the top left and I went by choosing zerg getting the bottom right. Right away  told me that he got the one race he doesn’t want. Or something like that. Since I believe  I figured he got terran, just a gut feeling, or hacking whichever is easier. So went for a 9 pool. Why? Well on Fading Realm you shouldn’t get an expansion early it’s very bad. So a 9 pool is not a bad play, if you don’t do well with you early lings you can still power with drones. 9 pool is the play you want to do against a zerg, and against a terran who goes depot first. This may spell curtains for him.

So I 9 pooled and sent my 6 lings to his base running into his SCV. I also had a drone going up there to see his tech. He had 2 rax to the left of his CC and gas. He was also starting a bunker below his CC to cover everything, so built a hatchery just enough away from his Rax. also started a factory right next to the bunker. Positioned bottom-left from it.

Mistake 1

I should have put the hatchery so that I could hit his bunker or the factory. The bunker was keeping me from running my lings in, and  was getting tanks. I got my hatchery added a third Hatchery at home and started on gas. While creeping my sunkens toward him. I was able to kill 2 supply depots and put him behind. But he got his tank out, because of my bad hatchery placement and easily was able to destroy the sunkens and the Hatchery.

I gave up on the Hatchery and started on Lurkers. Then expanded to the left-bottom. I then started to get a spire and tech to guards. I noticed the larger MM army and tanks. Guards eat that up. I used some scouting lings to see that  had expanded both at the upper and mid right expansions. He had more expansions then I did. I quickly put down a hatchery at the left-mid expansion. tries to attack me with MM and tanks, but with my lurkers, hydras, mutas, and lings I was able to stop him before he reached my expansion, not without a loss of many units.

Mistake 2

I then started on guards. When completed I sent them to ’s right-mid expansion. He didn’t have much there except many wraiths!! I didn’t scout his main at all, just his expansions to see what kind of defense it has =[ I then switched my tech to hydras/crax/lurkers. I attempted a drop on him, but 12 wraiths to 5 hydras doesn’t cut it for me. He dispatched my mass crax and finally my lurkers.

Mistake 3

I was trying to micro attacks with units when I noticed something. I had 3000/2000 in the bank. When I am zerg that doesn’t happen too often anymore. I think that because we were on a different map, coupled with the fact that I thought that I had the advantage again. But I think that it was  putting pressure on me and forcing me to micro, and it was hard to keep good macro going. I attacked this time with a large amount of lings/hydras. had like 1 medic 11 marines and wraiths. I was able to almost raze his left-mid expansions, but more wraiths and infantry came and finished off my forces. I tried to macro better by adding 2 more hatcheries with all the excess money I had. Kept getting lurk/hydras/ling.

Mistake 4

When I noticed that all my mains tech had no defense. was able to raze my main and take my tech. I dare not engage him, because he had to many MM and I didn’t have any lurkers. I didn’t have anything protecting my main. I think a lot of people do that. They don’t put any protection from a drop. Some people think that if you are not getting minerals from it then don’t defend it.

It started to go downhill from here. I lost all my tech and started to build it up again. When  flies in with more wraiths and just finishes off my units. We exchanged GG’s and I left.

Mistake 5

Bah I should have just 4 pooled him! 8)

 did really well that game, he had a good defense set up, and always had a missile turret covering everything. So if I had gotten lurkers, his wraith fleet would have finished them easy. But I really think that I should have not gotten guards and stayed with mutas, if I knew he was getting wraiths. Then gotten a queen or 2 with ensnare. Wraiths do half damage to a muta. 10, which is as much as a muta does, well close enough 9. With ensnare to beat cloaking and to slow them down. I might had done better, but I think that he would have just teched to SV and gotten more MM.

By learning from my mistakes next time when place into that situation I will have a better chance of making the correct GG to my opponents by spanking me and making me better. Hope you guys liked it.
