I would like to explain before I start this, that all that I write here is TOTALLY true… including all the r/l bits and conversation too… none of it has been exaggerated, in fact some of it has been toned down so you will believe it…
It all started on Saturday morning, having woken up and grabbed a bite to eat, I change into my neo (e.g. from the matrix) style outfit with wire-frame sunglasses, black jeans, black turtleneck and black coat (because it matches my hair, obviously). I step out of the house and go into a slow run to get to the station quickly because my dad won't drive me there…
Quickly hoping onto the first train to the city (fortunately I barely made it on) I think over the strategies our group will be using today in those 4 on 4 games on $$$ Ice Hunters $$$.
Everyone would go random and hope for the best, using a team strategy depending on his race.
The Zerg goes with lurkers and sunken colonies and spore colonies to protect everyone else's choke and then tech climbs to greater spire and all sorts of air units.
The Terran goes mass fire bat / medic / ghost and does nukes and possibly mass wraith… although his primary way to spend all those minerals is to provide lots of turrets and supply depots on the sides of our cliffs to help prevent drops and other air attacks.
The Protoss would get mass zeal/DT and quickly tech to Arbiters and Corsairs to do debilitating recall drops on our enemies with the help of the Terran and the Zerg.
Upon arriving at my destination, I debark from the train and join my friends going to the PC bar. Seeing as we couldn't find anyone who wanted to play a 4 on 4 when we got there, we decided to play some 2 on 2's to pass the time.

Myself (Agent BoB) (pick Protoss at 12)

Johnny (KillerX) (pick Protoss 6)
I quickly cloned my probes and did my usual opener of pylon on 7, gate on 10, gate on 12 and pylon on 15
James turned towards me and asked me 'Do you know what I'm going to do?' I guessed lurker rush but he said no to that one… instead he was planning to 'Get fast expansion, I read the strategy on a website'
Rapier is going mass marines from two barracks without gas, obviously relying on brute force marines to keep him safe until he can get a quick expansion
Johnny is doing his usual everything and the kitchen sink build order, which is something like Pylon, Gate, Forge, Pylon, Gate and Cybernetics Core. He usually goes for a few of every unit for versatility.
Johnny's Probe manages to slip past the zealot guarding my choke, but meets an unfortunate end when I introduce him to my two newly built zealots. To keep the enemy off guard, I quickly send all three zealots to Rapier's base and find he already has about 7 marines standing around. Fortunately for me, the little known fact that zeals > rines w/o medic support allowed me to make mince meat out of most of his rines and harass his mining SCVs. Meanwhile, James's fast expansion had paid off and he was able to send 6 lings to keep Rapier from getting an effective defense together, I sent 4 more zeals and that put him out of the game completely.
While all this was going on, Johnny had gotten a robo fac, a robotics support bay, a stargate and another forge and was beginning to warp a nexus at his natural. I had already expanded and had begun a citadel, 2 forges and some additional pylons, hoping to quickly get the gas for a robo bay so I could expand to one of the islands.
Telling James to take care of Johnny and stop him from powering up too hard, I watched as my zeals began to systematically destroy the rest of Boer's base. I suddenly noticed a small battle between James and Johnny, which James losing a control group of lings to Johnny's growing zeal/goon army and that he had expanded and was moving his army out of his base, quickly sending down about 4 goons and a zeal to get their butt's kicked I put down 3 cannons in the space just right of my ramp and began some more pylons and more gates, as well as an evil templar archive.
After another small battle between James and Johnny's reinforcements to Boer, who was rebuilding his base at his former natural (my zealot was still tearing down the rest of the supply depots in his base) I had finally gotten what I wanted… a pair of evil Dark Templar, quickly sending them down I managed to ravage Johnny's army and force him to cancel all his attempts to build cannons since he didn't have an observatory yet, James soon sent more hydra/lings to destroy Johnny's expansion. Meanwhile I was sending down another pair of DT's and destroying Johnny's forges and army, so as to make sure my DT's could roam free… quite soon 6 mutas and more hydra's were sent to the failing protoss base and destroyed it, Rapier was killed soon after.
All this was amoungst some interesting chitchat from the players
Boer: hey look at those defilers
Johnny: what so early?
James: heh heh did I mention that I'm a tech freak?
Of course, there is doubt that James was thoroughly disappointed by the lack of opportunities to use his Defilers :->
Dire Straits
Myself (Agent BoB) (pick Protoss at top left)
James (X'nx) (random Terran at bottom right)
VS
Boer (Rapier) (pick Zerg at bottom left)
Johnny (KillerX) (pick Protoss at top right)
We all begun with our respective build orders, I went for 1 gate, 2 stargate corsair rush, hoping to stop Rapier from establishing a powerful zerg army by ovie hunting. James went for a fast tech of MM drop and Rapier was going mass hydras with 1 lair, hoping to do a drop. KillerX of course, was still going his usual build, but fast-expanded to the middle right island.
My first two corsairs warped in and were immediately sent down to Rapier's base to deal some damage, meanwhile X'nx had already launched his evil party of 6 'rines and 2 medics in what was to become the drop-ship of doom.
The Corsairs quickly went to the zerg base (thanks to a comscan on KillerX I had deduced it's location) and started to tickle some overlords when a control group of Hydra's showed up and ruined their aspirations.
Boer was in a tight spot right now, I had just shouted in James's ear 'Boer's going Hyrda drop!' and he knew he had no chance of droping me, due to my evil corsairs, 4 of which were being sent down again to deal more damage, losing only 1 of their number they managed to not kill any ovies before I ran their sorry butts out of the hell-hole that was Rapier's Hydra-infested zerg base.
Meanwhile, Johnny's expansion was starting and his main was being finshed single-handedly by those aforementioned marines, although 2 of the marines had valiantly died after sacrificing their lives sometime during their adventure in KillerX's Peon line.
Important lesson
Island Map + no Peon Line defense = maxi chobo
Soon I was making frequent raids with my slowly upgraded Corsairs and had expanded to the 12 o clock island while X'nx had moved to the 3 o clock and was muttering continuously under his breath 'where's my dropship?'
Unfortunately, my Corsairs weren't doing too much to stop Rapier from massing ever more Hyrda's, although he had currently dug himself into a hole by burrowing some of his Hydra's and being unable to get them all back above ground whenever my 'sairs showed up.
Meanwhile, X'nx was also having a problem, specifically, the last Plyon in Johnny's base, which supported two cannons and had a probe and 3 zeals helping to defend it. Realising this I quickly got my shuttle back and sent 4 zeals to help. I had been building zeals non-stop from my 1 gate the entire game to prevent drops, as well as making a wrap-around build around the centre of my island with a ring of photon cannon support (not that much, just enough to give me total detection)
Boer at this point had started upgrading to a Hive and getting a spire and also building Spore Colonies, but still could not un-burrow all his Hydra's. I had gotten D-web but it didn't help me too much in my raids, considering I had no time to waste on micro, instead trying to get out before I lost more than shields, but the raids were successful, Boer couldn't get enough supply to power too hard. James meanwhile had finally broken the deadlock with the last Pylon by bringing in the big guns… Nukes.
He had also expanded to the island between him and Rapier.
Johnny's island was coming along nicely and I though to myself 'this wont' do) so I started to tech carriers and added another two stargates, bringing my total up to 4. Johnny had again, not built an observatory, so was powerless to stop the rain of nukes preventing his expansion attempts back to his old main. Meanwhile, my Corsair patrol had reached approximately 10 in number and was 2/2/2 and was making life hell for Boer.
Soon the action hotted up once again, as 3 Carriers with not-quite-full bays made their way to Johnny's expansion to wreak havoc, unfortunately, while they annoyed him greatly, they were eventually taken down with a combination of Boer's Scourge, Psi storm and scouts/corsairs, as well as his own Carrier, which eventually died.
James had once again expanded to the left-middle island, although this time he did not get a CC or mine, just turreted the area ready for later development. I had been sending my Corsairs into Boers base again, constantly losing (but replacing) the losses and adding to Rapier's tally of dead overlords, mutas and queens.
Shouting my bone-chilling war cry of 'can you handle 5 Carriers?' I begin my next assualt.
I had finally massed 5 Carriers and sent them to Johnny's base once more to destroy him, this time they met once more with all sorts of resistance. A HT, some Goons, 3 Cannons, about 6 Scouts and 'Sairs, as well as one Carrier (which held out for an insane amount of time due to a shield battery I didn't find out about until after the game).
The fighting was intense on both sides and soon I realised my Carriers would be lost if I didn't get reinforcements to them soon, so I shouted to Johnny over the din of the PC Bar that 'I can do that too!' and got my own supporting air units… 12 'sairs to help.
His Air force was quickly decimated upon their arrival.
Meanwhile, Boer had droped James' newest expansion, forcing me to send my remaining 3 Carriers to save his Turrets. And Boer had still not yet un burrowed those Hydras in his main. So far, I had managed to lose approximately 30 interceptors (no joke, Boer was continuously telling Johnny that my Carriers where hallucinations because nothing was coming out of them. Damn millions of stuck dragoons behind Johnny's poorly placed gates had been shooting at the only thing in range… those poor little cute inters. I had also lost umpteen million corsairs from semi-successful raids and my chobo powers of D-webing everything but the Hydra swarm.
Soon James had begun his third expansion on the middle-left island and I expanded to the 9 oclock island. KillerX's defenses were rapidly crumbling, thanks to the constant stream of abuse that he was suffering from myself and James. Even worse, Jame had begun to mass- D matrix my Carriers, making them invincible flying fortresses of death. Eventually, I had managed to disable all the cannons on the top portion of Johnny's island and beat off all air defence… then X'nx made his move, 2 Ghosts, 4 medics and 2 SVs arrived over the northern portion of the island and quickly James told me to ship out.
Two red dots of doom quickly appeared and Johnny was helpless to watch as a wave of nukes rapidly decimated the remanents of his base.
In the meanwhile, preparations had been made to dispatch Rapier too, who had nearly mined out his main. I had been building up to arbiters, ready for a recall drop of many zealots to finsh the job. Although I quickly decided that 6 Carriers and X'nx's Wraith fleet and nukes could finsh the job just as well, so suddenly 14 Corsairs menacingly advanced upon Rapier's base and started D-webing everything, followed by 6 D- matrixed Carriers.
KillerX had also somehow managed to start another final base upon Boer's island, but that was not to last, as from another direction a handful of wraiths and those essential evil Ghosts began to appear.
Interceptors strafed, Ghost's nuked, Wraiths zap'd, Corsairs buzzed and 6 valkeries turned up just in time to watch the final nuke land upon KillerX's last building.
While this was going on, Rapier's last building, his Queen's nest, was being razed
GG everyone!
After game conversation(s):
Me: when I said 'here comes 5 Carriers' and only 4 showed up you didn't believe me did you? Plus you said they were Hallucinations because Johnny killed all the interceptors
Boer: yes, they were just sitting there doing nothing so I told him that
Johnny: yeah he kept saying that I should go for the one with interceptors.
Me: you killed all my interceptors!
Boer: how did that happen?
Me: he had all these goons stuck behind his gateway and they killed all my interceptors, the poor babies.
Johnny: So that's why your carriers sucked
James: the entire game I kept having to look for my dropships.
Me: Dropships suck and why didn't you just build more?
James: waste of supply, I was going nuke remember?
Me: Doh!
Johnny: So I sent my Corsairs after that thing that weird terran air unit that was attacking me along with the MM rush
Me: you mean the dropship
Johnny: that's what it was?
James: no! (sarcastic cry of despair) you killed my dropship!
Me: I owned you good
Boer: shut up bob, I couldn't build anything 'cause you killed all my overlords and I was too afraid to expand. And I couldn't unburrow my stuff either
Me: no, I mean how I managed to D-web all your buildings and drones and Larvae w/o ever D-webing an hydralisk the whole game, heh I sure showed you
Boer: LoL
Me: I am the master of Cow D-web powers!
Boer: Yeah
James: I got the whole strat off this battlereport on www.battlereports.com … the Gosu owning guide .
Me: oh yeah, I think I read that one, it was good I think
James: yep, step one Take all the expansions
Step two, Stop your opponent from expanding
Step three… Ownage!
That was heaps good how he droped 8 ghosts on the guys island and locked down all his stuff and then triple-nuked him
Me: Yeah, I would hate to fight that guy
Winter Conquest
Myself (Agent BoB) (pick Zerg at 6)
Johnny (KillerX) (pick Protoss at 8)
VS
Boer (Rapier) (pick Protoss at 12)
James (X'nx) (pick Zerg 4)
The game started as usual, with me going for a fast expansion at my natural and finding James immediately with my ovie, leaving it there to watch him do one of the weirdest things I had ever seen… it seemed a bit like a 9 pool with heaps of zerglings, although I later found out it was a 6 pool and that I probably needed glasses.
In any case as soon as James got 12 lings they were sent over to Johnny's base to cause havoc, James never actually discovered where my base was the entire game, his overlords never explored at all. Johnny had meanwhile discovered Boer's base with a scouting probe and at my (loud and repeated) urging of 'Do it! Do it NOW!' finally agreed to try and offensive cannon Boer, unfortunately because he was sitting right next to Johnny, he had heard and sent all his probes down to destroy the offensive cannon with his first 2 zeals before they warped in. Johnny barely fought off the 12 lings, because the failed cannon push had drained his resources greatly and he lost many probes, but began to get his economy back up. I had already started my tech climb towards Lurkers meanwhile, and so had James, although he did not expand.
Meanwhile, I had sent over 14 lings to Boer's base to annoy him some, which they did, although he did not lose more than 2 probes. Boer then sent 7-8 zeals to Johnny's base, which had just recovered from the zerglings. Seeing that my ally was in trouble I sent him all my avaliable forces, 12 lings, fortunately, due to some smart micro and lots of sacrifice of probes, Johnny mananged to run away about 5-6 probes to a corner of his base and was relieved by the reinforcements. Meanwhile, my 4 lurkers had finshed and I was just waiting for overlord transport to upgrade from my single lair. I just expanded 'secretly' to the 10 oclock main and had burrowed a recon 'ling in the 2 oclock main.
Telling Johnny to bring his 5-6 zeals to Boer's natural, I rallyed 18-24 lings there and began my assualt once the zeals (w/o nike shoes) had caught up, orginally it was a huge massacre and Boer still had about 7-8 zeals standing against Johnny's 3-4 zeals. Then all three players looked away from the battle for a moment and came back… to find that Boer's army had been overrun!
I quickly congratulated myself for not pulling off the second group of 12 lings that were in transit to Boer's base… and noticed Johnny's was being taken to kingdom come by a huge Drop of Hydra's and Lurkers by James on Johnny's main. Since he had not had opportunity to expand yet, Johnny had just lost all his income and production in one fell swoop, quickly telling him to flee to my 10 oclock base (I had just taken the natural and started more sunkens and spores to protect it). I countered James by droping 4 Lurkers behind his peon line, after killing the 1 Lurker and 1 Hydra holding the line, James's income had been devastated by my 3 remaining lurkers.
Johnny had finally started a expansion nexus just above the creep of my hatchery and began long distance mining and I had built another 4 lurkers, ready to do my typically evil thang to James's natural (not that he had one… oh well I should learn to scout better)
I had just finshed the crackling upggrade and began a pair of spires at my 10 oclock, researching heavily armed mutas to finsh the game. Meanwhile though, a large group of cracklings had been sent to Boers, as well as two more overlords to Johnny's base, which respectively destroyed a protoss base and the burrow advantage of the lurkers still there.
Boer, with his remaining 8 zealots had managed to destroy 3 or my 4 burrowed lurkers, which had been droped towards to bottom of James' base, due to the lack of a natural on his part. But unforunately, the damage had already been done and James was already without a lair, spawning pool or hydra den.
To further complicate matters, James had expanded to the bottom cliff expansion in the middle of the map… where I had my second overlord watching for the entire game. I quickly noticed this and begun groping around for more lurkers, but I had aparently forgotten to build more… oh well, 8 zerglings were loaded into an overlord and quickly decimated the unfinshed hatchery and 5 drones standing around on the cliff.
A small group of zealots and zerglings then charged in and killed the 3 sunken colonies that were James' last buildings in the game.
This was the most tight game yet, with see saw actions abounding and practically everyone constantly losing their peon lines and not being able to mine… everyone in the game had been restricted in resource income but had made the most of it, esp. Johnny, who had been sieged within his own base by zeals, Lurkers and all sorts of badness the whole game. Still, there were two vital errors that allowed us to defeat our opponents this game
1 James didn't expand, as a zerg, you NEED to expand as much as possible, or at least take your natural, but he was too scared of an attack, so didn't do it, had he had an expansion, he would not have been nearly as stuffed when I lurker-droped his peon line.
2 No one attacked me or even scouted me
right at the start, had James sent those 12 lings at me, or even worse, did a standard 6 pool, I would have been very well and truly stuffed, but he didn't, so lost that opportunity, also, I had been able to take a free expansion at 10oclock which was naked for about 20 minutes, until Johnny lost his main and fled there… had they followed him there he may have died that game, but they did not. I had also been allowed to tech way too much, I was overconfident the entire game and totally forgot to build ANY air or ground defense in my main but was not 'punished' for my foolishness.
After game conversation:
James: Bob is scary
Johnny: yeah told you
Me: I'm not nearly as good as you think…
Why didn't you expand James?
James: I was too scared
Johnny: why didn't you send me an overlord when he first droped me bob?
Bob: I did, his Hyrdas killed it
Boer: I can't believe how I was winning then I looked away for a moment and suddenly arggh! My zealots all dead
Bob: I know, I thought we lost too then I looked and I was like 'yes! Good thing I didn't bring back those other 12 lings from transit
Johnny: Bob you screwed me up I was building so slow because of your offensive cannon!
Boer: especially since I heard you telling him to do it non-stop for 25 seconds bob
Me: Doh!
James: I was kicking ass on my attack then I went back to my base and suddenly I was like 'arggghh!' I didn't even realise you lurker droped me.
Me: heh heh, I waited too long, I totally forgot about them, I left them sitting around for about a minute after I got drop tech.
James: that screwed my build heaps
Ok, well, I'd like to start the BR of the 4 on 4 we played against these guys on Ice Hunters, but it was SO boring and we were owned so hard I'm not even going to talk about it. Sorry folks, shows over, you can all go home now… oh fine there's room for another funny story… KillerX's special 'Front-door Commando' stratagy.
(this was during the aforementioned 4 on 4 game where we lost… hard)
KillerX's base had just gotten under attack, about 3 control groups of Guardians had suddenly appeared over the horizon and was leveling his base, I quickly shouted to him to arbiter drop the guy to force him to bring his guardians back.
KillerX, being the master of all that is starcraft, knows that Guardians can attack air units and wisely decides to take the safe entrance to the enemy base, his choke point, after failing to D-web the umpteen million Hyrda's there, he intelligently decided to just recall drop his clump of DT/zeals right in front of the choke… pressing R and quickly finding his troops… after about 15 seconds, he suddenly realised his arbiter was already dead…
Well thanks for reading up to here :-> this is my first BR ever so I hope it didn't suck as badly as I think it did, please give me alot of comments on what you think I should have done (please don't ask me for pics tho, I couldn't have gotten them for this game and even if I did I wouldn't know how to put 'em up)
