Lights, white, hallways, booms, ringing, and the harsh smell of cleaning fluids were all that Lt. Ray could remember. In his sleep Jimmy tried to turn over, but to inner
dismay, found that objects prevented any movement of his body. Opening his sleep filled eyes, the weary mech pilot regarded the room he was placed in.
"A hospital room? Yes... Hospital Where else would the put me. hey.. what are these things on... my arms!"
His thought were interrupted by the entrance of a slim dark featured man in a linear gray suit.
"Why am I bonded? Who are you? Have we won the battle?", spoke Jimmy.
The man, however, did not answer. Walking with a slow determined style over to Lt. Ray's bed, he unlocked Jimmy's arm restraints and placed a sleek, and smooth
looking pistol with a high caliber, on the bed table beside. Not looking, nor speaking, the man cerimoniously walked out of the room and locked the door behind him.
Jimmy stared at the pistol and took it in his hand.
"Fine quality, wonder what's it for. Hm... Arm braces and a pistol. What is this all about?", thought Jimmy.
Five, ten, fifteen minutes past. Jimmy faced the doorway, pistol in hand and a running contemplation in mind. White, plastic, and fake looking was the room he was in.
This was NOT a hospital room, even though his wound seemed to be cygenically healed. The VAR (Video Audio Readout) told him that he had been asleep for six days
and that he was still on K'arzad eight, but far from the battlefield.
There were three of them, and they came quietly. All of a sudden, Jimmy understood.
"Guards, yes... they are here because.... because I did not kill myself!?! Execution? What have I done? I was given the honorable way out, but for what cause? Perhaps
they believe I already know... The Raptor? no... I wasn't trying to steal it! Someone's trying to frame... someone powerful. I won't let them."
And with that, Lt. Ray raised his fire arm. Three snap shots, three cut off grunts, three corpses. Sent to inform Lt. Ray of his situation and unsuspecting, the guards
didn't have a chance to react. Jimmy was right about their motives, but they were unjustly killed.
An officer does not commit murder, even if the victims may be under his command men, and an officer does not steal especially from the government and people he
was sworn to protect. The Confederation would have no mercy on Jimmy, there was no hope and no chance for survival against the many guards of the "hospital."
Jimmy knew this, and yet, he did not give up. After dressing in one of the dead guards uniform, luckily he shot for the head, Jimmy quickly searched the bodies for
guns, ammo, weapons or keycards. He found nothing other than the guards weapons that were carried in with them -Aries assault lasers, and knowing that more guards
may be arriving at any time, Jimmy was reduced to do what might allow him freedom.
Deep and around the socket plunged Jimmy's fingers. It took him awhile to wrench the eyeball free from the optic nerves, but with signifigant effort, the dastardly deed
was done.
"Got the eye, good, hm... hand. Where's a knife? ....Damn... didn't find one. Oh well.."
Below the wrist was where to shoot. Hitting the wall after skidding across the floor (leaving a great mess), Lt. Ray found the bloody hand still twitching. "Shoot'n it off"
-the only way he could think of removing it.
Quickly Jimmy went down the hallway after shoving both units into his new guard's pants. Sure there were guards moving about, but surprisingly, none stopped nor
questioned him. Halting at a great metal door with a security panel, Jimmy removed the eye from his pants and opened the door. Past more guards and desks, he walked
invisibly through what was now identified as a prison.
However, two guards stopped him as he was about to leave the entrance block, they were determined to find out who this new guard was, and why he had blood on his
collar.
Who are you, soldier? Do you have clearance to leave? Why is there blood on your collar? Why are you carrying a closing pistol? Who gave you clearance to carry
around a rifle? Where's your security card.
The guards approached, angered when recieving no response from an imobile and unresponsive Jimmy. And when one got so close that he was spitting in Lt. Ray's
face, a quick upper knee solved the problem. With one guard down, with the speed of one trained by the best, Jimmy whipped from his holster the pistol which had been
referred to as the "closing" pistol.
Out of the door flew Jimmy, leaving nasty hole in one guard, and another crying in pain because he would never be able to have children. Looking back at the prison
revealed that the installation was in the middle of nowhere, and that there was desert in every direction. Tossing the messy hand aside, Jimmy formulated the idea that
escape that though he was nowhere, it was somewhere better than where he had been. Maybe he'd find life in this desert... maybe he would not die by the hands of
starvation, and if were? Well... he always had the closing pistol.
Shifting the Aries rifle to a more comfortable position, Jimmy left the shrinking prison in the distance, and continued his trek onward into the deserts of K'arzad eight.
With tears, Lt. Ray thought of his ruined life, family name, and career. The red eagles would scorn him and remove his name with shame.... He would probably never pilot
another mech again, and would be hunted down until caught. Maybe he should end it here? Still, he trudged on

Part 5
Dust and the searing heat of a desert. Slumped down in the simmering yellow sand of K'arzad eight lay the lithe form of Lt. Jimmy Ray, exhausted. Into the desert he
had run, from his past, career, family, and the people he was once sworn to protect. It had not been a hard descision, death seemed immient and without reason.
When through the wind, running let down to walking, and walking gave way to crawling, till finaly fatigue and total exhaustion, things apeared in the distant liquid desert.
Illusions? Reality? Lt. Ray's head was pounding and his squinted eyes gave only limited view. That is, until they were close enough to spit on him. With the little remaining
strength Jimmy had left, Lt. Ray raised the pistol. A quick low kick from one of the shadowy forms left Jimmy's hand curled and stinging and the closing pistol two yards
away in the sandy earth.
There was no need for Lt. Ray to be knocked out, he was already too exhausted. Soon he and the caravan were far off from a sandy grave. To the south moved the
caravan, over stretches of sand hills and sparse desert plants. The sun beat down upon them with a vengance, while Lt. Ray was cold out on a stretcher, being carried by
two great lama-like creatures. Soon, they would arrive...
TIME : Twenty hundred (Military Time)
PLANET: K'ARZAD EIGHT (System Rysul)
K'ARZAD MINING FOUNDATION SECTOR: Desert (AMF) Camp of the Lady Holston Producht
A tiny speck in an expanse of desert, held the tiny city camp of Lady Producht. Cement bunkers, outdated T-Tanks and old tiptle PD defenses surround a city which
was designed for a military force. Guards dressed in grey body armour toting Aries assault cannons were seen a plenty, and pillboxs positioned around entrances made
what seemed from the air a ghost city, threatening and alive from the ground.
In the heavily defended HQ of this Desert Camp, Leader Producht questions the now revived Lt. Jimmy Ray.
"And so Lieutenant, we find you in a guard's uniform with an Aries laser rifle and dried blood on your collar. What does this say to us Lieutenant? Though we are not
part of the Confedration, we do not tolerate nor harbor turncoats.
The only way I see to deal with you, is for you to tell us your story, and we will judge whether we kill you now for being a runaway, or later for being a confedrate spy
-though this seems unlikely."
After speaking, Leader Producht rose from her seat and walked from the the table where he and Jimmy had been conversing over. Past a guard and to a grated window
she walked.
Leader Producht was a woman of nobility, though branded otherwise. Though she controled the entire pirate organization on K'arzad eight, it was not by her great
beauty that her position of power sprung from. Though a pretty face and a well rounded body gave considerable sway over diplomatic engagements, she was a military
genius in ambush. Of course publicity was kept closed about her pirating and illegal operations -the wealthy miners of K'arzad eight did not want any Confederation
interference unnecessarily due to illegal income statements.
Disturbed from his viewing of Leader Producht, Lt. Ray spoke his pre-planned and pre-rehearsed speach of apeal, "I promise you Lady Producht, I am neither a spy nor
a turncoat. I was unjustly accused of stealing a Goliath Raptor, and I had escaped from a Confederation prison when your marauders found me. Neither home, world, or
career is left to me. Though you may have doubts, I promise you that I am the best of men and will not fail you if invited to join..."
Holston Producht turned from the window and again resumed her seat at the table. Placing her head on her arm and looking questionly questionly at the seemingly
sincere Jimmy Ray.
"My dear Lieutenant, though you may be worth having in our organization, could it be that you may use us as a way to get positioned back into the Confederation
military? Also, you have no cause to join us other than that what you mentioned. We here have a true grievance worth fighting for. You may wonder where we have aquired
such equipment as you see outside. Let me tell you OUR story..."
"Selfishness is the root of all evil, not money, Lieutenant. All people you see at this camp were either miners, or families of miners. We too once lived in vast mansions
and in the lavish city of Foldarik. Ten years ago.....
It was when K'arzad eight had a rush of prospective miners that a coalition was formed. The purpose of this coalition was to prevent any new miners from positioning
themselves on places of great mining deposits. However, not all original miners supported the coalition. We believed that all who were willing to come to this vast
wasteland, should be allowed to keep as much land as they could mine. This did not go well with the coalition members.
Ten years ago, the members of the coatlition had grown enough to be able to out weigh those against the coalition. We, those against, were offered three choices. Join
and support the coalition, leave K'arzad eight, or be killed. Most joined, however the ones who did not join were not killed and did not leave K'arzad eight. Instead of leaving
the planet, we left secretly for the desert and smuggled as much equipment and arms that we could.
Establishing this city and creating alliances with other pirate organizations on more fruitful planets for resources and food, took eight years. We are growing stronger,
and month by month more mining SUVS fall victim. I'm sure you have never heard of these problems of the miner's of K'arzad eight... they keep quiet control over
everything.
You have a honest face Jimmy Ray... Mabye because of that, I now offer you two choices.
One: You forswear all previous life, swear to defend me and my goals, and do not give any claim to mining territory, thus allowing yourself to be added to our resistance.
Or....
Two: You do not swear alliance, thus you are to be be killed after a long torure."
Lady Producht smiled seductivley and sat up.
"My lady, I would be honored to join and serve you."
And with that, Holston Producht gave Jimmy Ray his Aries laser rifle and closing pistol back. There were many side glances from other AMF officers about giving back
such a novel weapon while they had been working with autocannons and assault rifles, but since Jimmy Ray was demoted to a modest command in the Anti-Miner Forces
(AMF) forces, they could not pursue the point.
Lt. Ray was made an Ensign commanding the old Titan mechs -the previous standard mech before the Goliath. Jimmy was right at home commanding his new
squadron, which he named, "The Black Eagles".... in dark revelance of his past squadron, "The Red Eagles."
The Titans only had Atredies cannons and flamethrowers -which were located farther up on the Titan's body to be as efective against enemy infantry as the Goliath
flamethrowers. Jimmy, however, knew that this outdated mech was still deadly in the hands of experiance.
After aquainting himself with his men, Jimmy lay down and recounted the events that had taken place over the past days. Thoughts such as who won the battle for
Foldarik and how the AMF is going to be affected by the winner of the battle entered in Ensign Ray's mind.... But these questions would be asked tomorrow....
Part 6
TIME : Sixteen hundred
PLANET: K'ARZAD EIGHT (System Rysul)
K'ARZAD MINING FOUNDATION SECTOR: Desert (AMF) Camp of the Lady Holston Producht
Sunlight poured within Ensign Ray's quarters, accenting the lack of furniture and projecting haze off of the reflective surfaces. It was morning, time to start enforcing
Terran rules and regulations within the pirate camp.
Though Lady Holston Producht had given him a command that usually a higher ranking officer procured, he knew that this was because of his knowledge in Terran
military operations. Jimmy would start with strict early rising and early couchers.
"Rise and shine, I want everyone down at the mess within the hour.."
With some expected grumbling, the soldiers rose and prepared themselves for breakfast and training. They had been instructed by Ensign Ray yesterday, what he had
planed for them. None were against what he ordered, for they knew his background (found out by Lady Holston's hackers, who had made entry into the Terran's military
network and sought after information on Lt. Ray), and were instructed to obey his every word.
Though the time after breakfast had only progressed to 6:15 A.M., the desert heat outside of the AMF camp was rising rapidly. The desert sand was of a powdery
nature and was difficult for the Titan mechs to maneuver in, but Jimmy taught new ways of operating the mechs to achieve both good traction and speed, to his men. Lt.
Ray once was considered one of the best and never did he teach his skills to fellow Terran mech pilots, though selfish it was.
However, these were his men, and Ensign Ray knew that others would look upon his squadron and base their improvement on him. Also, there was not the prestigious
castle tourney to practice for... since Ensign ray was not part of the Terran navy anymore. Damn, Jimmy Ray knew he could have won it....
Drills, drills, and more drills.... In distant weeks, he'd teach everything the Terran military taught him, he'd teach them how to reset the HUD to fit each of their fighting
styles, where to target other Terran mechs and Protoss weapon's platforms, how to effectively move through and use the contours of the land, how to use the cover around,
small arms training, combat awareness, hand to hand combat, proper camp hygiene and setup, tactics, battlefield strategy, leadership skills, squad fluidity and
synchronization, arms, armor, and armament care, and obedience. Jimmy might also try and teach them a little tech... printenial stabilizers? Dammit, he wished he paid
attention.....
At midday, Ensign Ray and his men broke for a long, relieving, lunch. The Sun was high now, and Titans could not be air conditioned because the air intake would,
without a doubt, intake the fine desert sand and damage the delicate engine. Goliath and Raptor mechs had an air filter system which were highly advanced and could take
the desert heat. Raptor mechs rarely used the air filter/condition system that they were equipped with, because the Raptor mechs were insulated to withstand immense
radiation and heat.
Before going to the mess hall, Ensign Ray was going stop by the command HQ and have a little talk with Lady Tolston about the battle of Foldarik.....
Ensign Ray walked with his men until passing by the barracks, bidding them good bye, Jimmy strode towards the Command HQ, located in the center.
The Command HQ was a bunker structure just below the surface of the ground. Raised PDs and anti Space/air craft guns surrounded it, making it quite obvious that
something of importance was located in the immediate area. After passing a high security check and interrogation, Jimmy Ray was escorted to a darker area downstairs.
As Jimmy and his escorts entered into what would be know as the con room, they overheard a conversation on the wide paneled VAR (Video and Audio Readout).
Further entry into the Con room revealed a view of a Protoss commander, dressed in the traditional yellow armor, on the VAR and Lady Holston sitting relaxed and
confident in her chair of command. Lady Holston spoke....
"And so Comrade Ipong, It is then agreed that we will support you and your men in conflict with the remaining Terran forces. Afterwich, we get full mining privileges. The
Protoss High Council and Relegate would, in turn, obtain suitable land for the construction of military installations and bases."
"We, of the elders, have agreed to these terms, most venerable and wise Lady."
"So it is concluded then. In the forest to the east, we will join."
"A week hence, Lady. Concluded, it is..."
The VAR went back to it's original dark green color, and Ensign Ray stepped forward. Lady Holston took note of Jimmy's look of surprise, and smiled inwardly. Poor
Jimmy, I suppose he should know....
"I wish to see you in the planning room, Ensign Ray."
"Yes, Lady."
Jimmy and Lady Holston walked down past the radar/telescopic radar attendants and the tactical land officers, into a narrow corridor. Though just below the surface of
the ground, no light shown through the layers of concrete and steel above. Down some stairs and through a metal detector, Lady Holston and Jimmy walked.
"Ladies first, of course."
"In all things Ensign, in all things..."
After surveying the room, Ensign Ray sat cautiously down in the chair opposing Lady Holston at the strategic holograph table. Lady Holston pushed a trista aside, and
began to speak.
"Enemies are not always forever enemies, Ensign. I know that you may question my judgment in dealing with the Protoss, but the agreement of alliance has already
been made. Since you are novel to the AMR, and are unaware of our policies with other organizations, let me give you a brief rundown.
The miner's coalition and the Terran Confederation are correct in calling us pirates. It is true, that we receive aid from other pirate organizations, in the hopes that we will
become powerful allies when we accomplish our objective. But, on the other hand, we have more recently been acting like mercenaries, fighting for whoever hold our same
goals. It just so happens, that the Protoss are willing to join in our fight for retribution and give us back what was taken away."
"Lady Holston, have no fear in my orientation. I fight for the AMF, now. Not for the Terran Confederation. Though the Protoss have been suitable targets in the past,
perhaps I should fight against the government who ruined my life. How went the battle for Foldarik?"
"The Terran Confederation has ordered a withdrawal, but volunteer defenders from the Terran Confederation's army and a few coalition miner's have built themselves a
stronghold within the middle of foldarik. What they don't know, is that the Protoss have only a few hundred left, and that transporting reinforcements from the home world
takes awhile. You can see, that this is why the Protoss contacted the AMF.
How goes training with your men?", spoke Lady Holston, obviously groping for a detaining factor in their conversation.
"It goes well, they pick up new techniques quickly, that is, for the little time I've spent with them. They're at mess at the moment. I should go and join them......"
Misinterpreting the reply for a reluctance for prolonged conversation, "You are dismissed then, Ensign.", stated Lady Holston, coldly.
Ensign Jimmy Ray gave Lady Holston a confused look of misunderstanding, and said in a most funny way, "Thank you Sir...... euh.. Ma'am.."
And with a visible grimace, Jimmy slowly bolted out of the room. While scurrying back to the con room, Jimmy could have sworn he heard Lady Holston's laughing
coming from the planning room.
Note: The beginning of this story began before the information about Starcraft became more than a trickle. Therefore, liberty was taken in the naming and creating of unit
types and places. I am not going to change it unless someone askes me to. FATE
Part 7
TIME : Twenty Three Hundred
PLANET: K'ARZAD EIGHT (System Rysul)
SECTOR: 132 -Artificial Forest, Eighteen KS off of Foldarik
War makes one insensitive. Because, well.... For one to fight and survive, duty must be done without hesatation, fear, or remorse. True enough, the battles that are
fought by marshalls and generals can be won by those not hardened. However, things are different for a grunt. Feelings hindered and duty done, men are turned to beasts.
Why then am I feeling akward?
Thoughts by Ensign Jimmy Ray, while traversing through a grown forest, on a dry desert planet. Such feelings had been ripping at Ensign Ray, since he had first
equiped at HQ. Perhaps these thoughts invoked feelings, because Jimmy was on the verge of fighting, perhaps, against even his own squadron. And for what? At least his
orders were simpler than the twisted thoughts squirming within.
With closing pistol sheathed and Aries rifle in hand, Jimmy held his orders, given to him at the daybreak briefing.
Reading them again for memorization, Ensign Ray threaded his way quickly through the trees with his assigned team.
AMF -ORDER #129
Ensign Jimmy Ray -Special Intelligence
SQUDR: "The Black Eagles"
ORDERS: Detach from "The Black Eagles" squadron at Twenty One Hundred. Meet with special ops group "Sphinx". While main force joins Protoss, provide intensive
RSS (Recon, Survey, Strategize) of surounding encroachments on advancement. Relay information on priority VAR channel #3. *Provide any information to Sphinx on
confederation defenses and tactics as need be.*
After RSS, return to main rendevous point with Protoss for a night assault on Foldarik, thereby taking control of the "Black Eagles".
Post Script- Your Titan will be driven by autodrive, reconfiguration of the HUD will be nessacery.
After an hour of moving stealthily and quickly through the dense artificial forest, past burnt trees and the lifeless corpses of the Protoss and Terran alike, team Sphinx
took a little R&R (rest and relaxation) in a dense alcove near a forest trail.
Though the miners of K'arzad had obviously spent an emormous amount of money on the forest, splotches of coarse sand still remained.
Ensign Ray, not used to the rigor of prolonged jogging in advanced personel armour, eased himself on a clear spot of earth. He had, afterall, been a mech pilot for most
of his career.
Jimmy regarded the Sphinxs over his canteen.
Even during R&R the Sphinxs acted like one unit, spacing themselves out for better coverage of the surroundings. Jimmy got the impression that these guys didn't
need pickets. Not a word was spoken by Jimmy Ray since he had met up with the team. When meeting the team, they asked for the standard stuff. Name, rank, order
number were given to the Sphinx commander on request, but the air of silence given off from the Sphinxs, since entering the forest, stifled Ensign Ray's comments.
Unlike himself, the Sphinxs wore the advanced personel armour as if they had been born it them. For Jimmy, ADV Personel Armour or Kalioplastic Armour was a
novelty. Unlike the cumbersome and heavy standard personel armour, Kalioplastic Armour seemed lightweight and flexible. Though the Kalio Plastic armour was easy to
wear, Jimmy Ray was unused to the revised helmet. Earlier in the day, his trouble caused silent smirks from the rest of the team. Jimmy's helmet visor seemed to open
and close whenever he looked to the left. The problem and the smirks were quickly stopped when Jimmy smacked the helm against a nearby tree on the path. Smirks
turned to frowns, and the Sphinx leader, Major Tom Cantor, sharply motioned for absolute silence.
The five minutes denotated for R&R were up, and the team was once again on the move through the speckled forest path.
When finally reaching the edge of the forest, west of Foldarik and somewhere north of the gathering AME & Protoss forces, it was nearing fourteen hundred. Ahead of
the team of twenty four, lay a desert. Scorched by war and torn by the movement of thousands of mechanized vehicles and footsoldiers, the desert was empty from shelter
and cover. Multitudes of rotting corpses and burntout reckage littered the battlefield.
Not only the stench, but the view of Goliaths and Dragoons lying in pieces even had affects on the hardened Sphinxs. Such carnage was hopefully a once in a lifetime
view. Near the edge of the forest lay a large pile of suprisingly whole-bodied Terran marines, stripped of arms and armour. Perhaps the remaining Confederation and miner
forces had need of their weapons and armour. At any rate, the men that had the job of scavaging for armour, must have had to search for awhile, being as it may that most
of the dead Terran Marines had their armour and limbs, hacked from their bodies
The Sphinxs moved with caution over the sand. Keeping low to the ground, the men made their way to a crater made by an exploded dragoon. While men posted
themselves in surrounding craters, Jimmy helped set up the relay equipment and the RSS telescopes, for he, like all Terran elite-(those who operated heavy equipment like
mechs), had had basic training in long range telescopic seekers.
A seeker was an advanced telescope that rendered the POV (point of view), in true 3d, much like the cockpit of a mech. It had a not only thermal, movement, and
magnetic detection, but it also had the use of peering through objects. This was made possible by extremely sensitive sonic sensors coordinated with visual
representation, that graphically rendered whatever was heard by the unique " static fingerprint" given off by internal materials, when hit by concise sonic pulses given off by
the seeker. These devices were highly valuable, and where the AME got them, was a topic of interest for Ensign Ray.
Major Cantor, leader of the Sphinxs, answered Jimmy's querying look by quietly whispering to Jimmy Ray that generous donators from supporting pirate groups in the
galaxy that had been kind in many ways.
Major Cantor also warned Jimmy not to take off his helm, for the radiation was at extreme hights. Ensign Ray gave Major Cantor a knowing look, and began his
surveyence with one of the seekers.
"What cha see Ensign, whispered Major Cantor through the com-link"
"Just a second Major, give me a moment, replied Ensign Ray."
"Alright, stand'n by."
Minutes past.
"Oh shit, Major....pardon sir."
"Uh? Whada you say boy?"
"Well sir, it seems that the seemingly deserted outer PD defenses are still bustling with internal activity. Not only that, but there are large bunkers of troops stationed
underground and behind the cement PDs. And sir..... I think I'm seeing ground AK buttresses."
"Ensign, tell me what all dis shit means?"
"Sir, if this is shit, then it must be some old dung, 'cause it's petrified and damned rock hard."
