I'm petty new to B'net, so I was looking for another relatively new player to hone my skills agains. I'm sorry, I can't remember his name, but his record was like 3 and 3 or something. Anyway, he said he wanted to try 2 vs. 2 against the comp, and I agreed. He chose some weird space map for 4 players, with me starting as toss in bottom left, and him as terran in bottom right. The comps were both zerg on the top. As the game progressed, I went with a standard double gateway build, hoping to take out one opponent quickly. When I had about two zealots I noticed my partner had nobarracks, but two engineering bays and about ten turrets. WHen I asked him what he was doing, he replied, "you'll see". He was then butchered by a twelve ling rush. He then foolishly allowed his CC to be destroyed while lifting off hi barracks and running it to my base. Ignoring his foolish moves I rushed one zerg opponent with a dozen zealots, destroying most of his base including his hatchery before being stopped by the other comp. After a few minutes I finished off his base and expanded to that area. I teched to dragoons and templars, and rushed the remaining comps main. However, while my forces were away, my expansion was leveled by mutas, hydras, and lings. My forces nearly smashed my opponents main, but were repelled. I did, however, manage to use one high templar to blast most of his drones into oblivion. By this time my main was almost out of minerals. I attempted to expand again, but was shut down again by muts before my cannons could warp in. MY lone high templar didn't have quite enough mana to hold off all the muts and lings. I noticed at this point with a scouting probe that my opponent had expanded, and became desperate. I took almost all of my troops and 800 minerals and expanded one last time. However, the comnp had not been idle during all this time and my main was soon plagued by defilers and razed by lings and hydras under dark swarm. I attempted to retech at my expansion, but was simply crushed by more waves and waves of hydras and lings.
LESSONS LEARNED
-Recconaisnace is still key. If I had seen his big force coming for my expansion early on, I could have defended it and kept the minerals coming till later in the game.
-Don't get so caught up in rushing that you forget to tech. A few corsairs would have made a huge difference.
-As always, expansions make or break the game.
Whoever my newbie oartner was, I don't hold any grudges, you were nice enough, but BARRACKS take priority over engineering bays. |
