X_Mage_X vs. Stranix

Introduction

After an oh-so-exciting Easter's eve day spent running in a 5k race I came home and hit the showers. After the showers, of course comes the StarCraft. With the StarCraft, comes the Kali, and with the Kali, comes the trash talking.

It was around 11:00 p.m. when I had stopped playing StarCraft and decided to watch some of the gosu's trash talk which always leads to a game. Stranix, being the very, very, very egotistical and cocky bastard cool guy around, was hollering on the Tao server on Kali. What exactly was he hollering? A lot of trash talk.

Stranix's Trash Talk

So he can talk the talk, but can he walk the walk?

After a period of about 5 minutes, Mage's connection finally goes solid and a game is created with me and (orky)~Hilbs! observing the splendid match. Hilbs lags like a mofo however and is forced to leave early to settle lag disputes. Mage creates the game on KBK Balanced Lost Temple v1.02 (shown below).

The Once Lost But Now Found in the Ladder Folder, Temple!Right when the game started I stared blankly at the middle of the map while Mage declared he got a perfect Drone "split".. I thought we were playing StarCraft here not bowling. Anyways, Mage selects Zerg and surfaces at the 9 o'clock position sending his Overlord directly southward where he would quickly find Stranix's Random Terran. Hmm.. so a Zvt match.. what's Mage going to do? And, on the other hand, what's Stranix gonna do? The world may never know.

Let's get some specific BO's here, people!

Mage rocks out with an Overlord on 9 followed up by an unhealthy amount of Drones and finally expanding to his natural somewhere around 14!! Stranix on the other hand elected to go with a somewhat safe 8 Depot, Rax, Rax, Depot after spotting Mage's "early" expansion with his first scouting SCV.

Then, like, uh, an SCV, like, does some stuff to a uh, Drone, who is like, making a Hatchery, only it like, doesn't, because the SCV, it's like, radical, uh-huh uh-huh.

FU DRONE!

The Drone eventually outruns the SCV somehow and makes Mage's third Hatchery in a well placed position shown below.

Hatchery!

[For you novices, this positioning performs well defensively because a sunken can be placed just below the hatched Hatchery and just to the left of the hatching one. With positioning like this the units attacking will have difficulty reaching it and meanwhile your supporting units rape him/her.]

Where's the action at yo!!

Stranix's doddling SCV who has been lingering around Mage's twin hatchery expansion attempt finally does something constructive and builds a bunker (haha I crack myself up). Stranix rallies his 2x Barracks Marines to his offensive maneuver and gets three Marines in his Bunker before Mage's 8 freshly hatched Zerglings (6 from main, 2 from freshly hatched expansion hatch). Stranix's Marines start hammering on the Hatcheries while Mage hastily sets up a pair of Sunkens.

DENIED.

Eventually the Sunkens are able to beat off the attack..

Get out of my house!

Buildup!!

Mage adds an Extractor so he can tech at both of his mining spots. He quickly builds a Lair after 100 Gas has been accumulated. Stranix is doing some peculiar strategy I haven't ever seen.. he adds a 4th rax and constructs a CC for expanding to his natural. He could possibly be looking to finish off those 2 Hactheries at Mage's natural expansion which were left in the yellow by an early offensive bunker.. let's compare their armies.

Go Mage you roXors at turtling!!

By now Stranix has scanned Mage's base multiple times and sees the blatantly obvious Guardian tech as Mage's Queen's Nest finishes, an essential pre-requisite for Hive level tech which Mage now opts for.

Well.. they're still building up. Then I click back to Mage's base and see his finished Lair. He instanly throws down a Spire and a Queen's Nest for relatively obvious Guardian tech. So Mage is just turtling and teching while Stranix is making 100% M&M along with a handful of bats.

Stranix has been rallying the majority of his infantry to just outside Mage's natural. Mage begins hatching some Mutalisks but it's too late - Stranix comes charging in in a potentially game deciding maneuver!!

ATTACK!!

Apparently not

Mage then tries some Mutalisk harassment techniques but Stranix scans and sees the first of the Mutas heading for his base and builds two bunkers near his CC which are quickly filled. Mage, thinking that the majority of Stranix's army is defending his peon line, goes for a hit where Stranix's now 5 rax'es are rallied but are once again denied.

Back at home, Mage's Hive finishes and Greater Spire tech is started relatively quickly. Stranix, whose CC hovered at his natural for a good little while, finally gets its feet on the ground and he transfers a bunch of SCV's over. Stranix finally gets a Factory and Mage adds a 4th Hatchery, but this one in his main.

Stranix removes his army from Mage's natural in fear of cliff Guards. By doing this, Mage is able to send a lone Drone (I made a funny) to the 12 o'clock position to construct a Hatchery at the main position.

'Mrph Mrph!Stranix is in for a surprise though - GUARDIANS!. Stranix has around 30 M&M just outside Mage's natural.. but over the cliff comes GUARDIANS!!

Stranix's "ISP fails now" and he is disconnected.

.................bad manner anyone? Anyways, the three of us had a little chat about it and we decided the best thing to do is let you decide the winner after explaining a few scenarios..

Stranix was almost totally convinced that the game was his yet I sided with Mage in the fact that 8 guards + random cracklings > 30 M&M, and that having an extra expansion is good too.

Anyways, we'll let you decide! Thanks for coming guys, c'ya around!
