Let me start off by saying that I wasn't expecting to BR this till it was over, so there are no in-game screenshots..oh fux, I just made 50% of the readers close this BR. Anyway, I recently read over the official Blizz BR's for the Brood War Beta Tournament Finals (it was between Zileas and Agent911 if you didn't know). I was really inspired by Game 4 of those finals, which imo was the best game in the series. While I'm on the topic (sorry folks), lemme make a side-note here. Anyone who thinks Zileas was a one-trick wonder or something of that nature is wrong. :( Seriously, look at that game if you want some proof..I think it's pretty amazing. If you don't feel like loading/reading that BR (and you prolly don't), just look at the unit scores from that game.

Not to mention that Zileas LOST that game. So anyway, I was pretty inspired, especially after reading that report. I set about looking for a one on one game in NH. No luck. I moved to x17. No luck. GRRrrRrrRRrrr useless channels. :( I gave up and looked for a pubbie 2v2 Temple game. I almost pissed my pants when I saw a 2v2 on Sherwood, and joined asap. I was the first one to join..the problem is, I was also the last. Doh. The game creator (whose name was something like ^=^Charmeleon^=^, damn Pokèmon) suggested a one on one, and I agreed. We both picked Toss before the game began and we were off. w00!
If you didn't know, Sherwood Forest is a 192x192 map on jungle tileset that came with the original Starcraft. Up to 5 players can play on the map (mains located at 1:30, 3:00, 6:00, 9:00, and 10:30) and each base has some form of choke point (bridge or ramp) and raised temple terrain lining the perimeters. Major expansion spots (with minerals and gas) can be found at 12:00, 2:00, 4:30, 7:30, and 9:30, and small mineral-only areas are scattered about the middle area. There are also quite a few bengalaas that roam around (I get a 10 for mentioning bengalaas!).

I started at the 10:30 main (which has a bridge choke) and went about building Probes happily. I did your standard double gate (as every Toss in every BR always does :) and got an Assimilator and Cyber Core for early Goons, only making a couple Zealots on the way. I sent my 9th Probe out scouting, waypointed to check each spot clockwise. And then the game started getting choppy..grrr, Dell PIII can't even run Starcraft and an mp3 at the same time (I was listening to Gimme Some More on repeat at the moment - my Starcraft war music :). I alt-tabbed out for a sec..longer than I would've liked..and closed the mp3. Went back into SC and went about my build..I'd only been late on making a new Probe. A Bot Facility went up at that point - I was planning on Goons/Reavers, which is a pretty solid build on Toss vs. Toss.
I hit '1' (I always hotkey my scout to 1) and nothing came up, and I noticed my scout Probe was dead. Doh. I looked at where the trail ended and saw that the Probe hadn't even reached the 1:30 main before dying. I could only hope he wasn't going DT's for now, and I sent another Probe out to his main..with 2 Zealots and 6 Goons close behind it.

I sent the Probe up the ramp a few seconds ahead of my small attack force and I saw something I wasn't expecting to see. Actually, that's an understatement..I could say I wouldn't expect to see 10 Cannons (generally) or a Carrier or mass Probes or Scouts at that point. But the last thing I expected to see was a dozen or so Zerglings!!! OMG, I thought he'd picked Toss at the beginning! He must've switched to Random or Zerg at the last second..I can't believe I missed that. :( I tried my luck anyway with my couple Zealots and the Goons, and killed off the lings losing the two Zealots and a Goon (dancing rools). I went over to say 'hi' to his little Drones, but I only killed a few before being run over by newly hatched lings combined with the Drones. I'd been in my base at the time keeping things going and only got back to my Goons in time to save one of them by running him back home.
Okay, I knew I needed a change of plans. Pure Goon/Reaver is okay, but not the best vs. Zerg. I decided to stick with my Reavers since I'd already invested in the tech, and chose to go with a Zealot/Goon mix. I put up another two Gateways and a Forge and sent a Probe and a handful of Zealots and Goons to 12:00 to hopefully expand.
Your forces are under attack! I pulled my units back in time to save 2 Zealots and 2 Goons from at least 3 Sunkens and a mass of lings. He'd already expanded to 12:00..doh..but after all, he was Zerg. The remnants of my expansion party hauled ass back to my main (with the lings trailing them for half of the distance), and met with a Probe and a few more Zealots to head down to 9:00. I couldn't let him outresource me.

Did you think I was going to leave his expansion unmolested? As Twip's expansion party #2 was headed to the 9:00 area, I loaded up a Reaver and 2 Zealots into a Shuttle and dropped them on the far left side of the expansion. Luckily for me, the 3 Sunkens he had were on the right side, where the ramp entered the spot. My Reaver popped a couple bunches of Drones before he sent the lings he had there at it, and I used the 2 Zealots as a shield to keep a number of them from getting to it. The worm blew up lings by the masses and finally I was left with just him and 1 Zealot. I decided my lone Reaver wouldn't be able to clear the Sunkens effectively (and fast enough) on his own, so the Shuttle went back home to pick up 4 Zealots as a second Shuttle was on the way with 2 Zealots and a Goon.
I plowed into the Sunkens and a handful of lings with 7 Zealots, a Goon, and my Reaver. Things were going fine n dandy. And then a large shadow passed over my attackers. A swarm of Muties, at least 8 of em. Uh-oh. My Shuttles had finished the speed upgrade just a few seconds ago, so I loaded up the Reaver and everything else I could fit and ran for home. The Reaver and 2 Zealots made it back, but the other Shuttle was destroyed in mid-flight. I realized something very bad. Although I had a decent number of Zealots and a couple Reavers, there were only 6 Goons and a Cannon at my main to defend the Muties with. I set my now 5 Gateways to making Goons and started up a Citadel of Adun..my expansion would have to wait just a little bit until I could get enough air defense.
Too late. I only had a few seconds' worth of a breather before a swarm of Muties, at least 12, flew straight over my Probe line and started popping em like..like..popcorn! Yeah..anyway, I selected a control group and clicked on a mineral patch at the 9:00 spot and they ran like hell. My 6 Goons kind of tripped over each other a lot but finally reached the Nexus and started pelting Muties one by one. I managed to kill 3 of them and damage a 4th before all of my Goons had been turned into blue puddles..that wasn't nearly enough to save me. :( The rally points of the gateways were set to my choke so the next 5 Goons that popped out wouldn't engage the Muties and die like the others did. The key point of my first attack had succeeded though, and the Muties were no longer focussing attacks on my Nexus.
I remembered to stop my Probes from going all the way to the expansion point before the Goons popped, and I queued up 4 more, all I could afford. I was taking a gamble spending all my cash because if he destroyed my Nexus, that was it! After the Muties had destroyed a few Pylons and my Citadel, I finally had 9 Goons to attack with, and I sent them charging at the Muties. One popped, then another, then another, and I was able to keep my Goons alive by dancing them back from focussed fire. Soon there were only 3 Muties left, and they ran back home like beaten stepchildren. I told the 10 or so surviving Probes to head back and mine, wondering why he hadn't sent in Mutie reinforcements. Maybe he was low on gas after I got his expansion, or he'd switched to Hydras or something..maybe he was busy expanding down the entire map. I'd find out soon enough.

Your forces are under attack! Again. Duh Twip..when a Zerg makes Muties, what does he usually accompany them with? A huge mass of Zerglings was trying to force its way across the bridge and into my main..that's what he spent the money on. My Zealots had recently received their +1 attack upgrade though, and with the help of a surviving Reaver, upwards of 40 or more lings were destroyed with only a few losses on my part.
I saw that my Templar Archives had finally warped in at that point. Immediately I researched Psi Storm and started 3 Templar in my Gateways. My minerals were getting to the saturated point again, and I started a Nexus and a few Cannons (finally) at 9:00. Observers and a couple Probes were sent out to look for expansions. He didn't disappoint my expectations..he'd retaken the 12:00 exp and had also taken 2:00, with one coming online at 3:00. Although I was doing relatively well at the time, this was a bad sign, bad, BAD sign. Still..giving up is never an option until you're down to 3 Pylons and an Observer..unless you're Mark4. But I'm not Mark4.
Anyway, I knew these expansions had to be dealt with. 3 Shuttles were loaded with 3 Reavers, 3 Templar, and 3 Zealots (starting to notice a pattern?), and I sent two of them to the fledgeling expansion at 3:00, while a lone Shuttle carrying a Reaver and 2 Templar flew towards 2:00. The Reavers and Zealots at 3:00 made short work of his Zerglings and eventually destroyed the Hatchery as well. All the Drones at 2:00 were decimated by either Scarabs or Psi Storms before they could even think about escape. I played the Reaver pop game with some lings until they were dead, and brought my 3:00 wrecking crew up to help. And then little green gooey basketballs started raining down on the Zealots and Reavers. Oh fux. He had guardians out, maybe 8 of em, and they were all spread out to reduce Psi Storm's effectiveness. I let off a couple Storms anyway, and loaded up and flew home with the Reavers and Templar. My Shuttles ran straight into a swarm of Scourge on the way though, and none of them made it back home. :(

There were Guardians afoot, and my main was starting to go low on minerals, and I only had one expansion, and I had no air units, and Mark4 hates me, and and..I didn't know what to do!! I threw up two Stargates in gosu Twipstyle all-3-techs mode and somehow was able to afford a few Corsairs while still making Goons and Templar. A Probe from 9:00 was sent up to 9:30 to start a new expansion for me..the resource comparison was starting to look a little better at least. I did a minor drop on the 12:00 exp, basically a Psi-raid..the accompanying Reaver and Zealot were killed cuz of my clumsy micro. :(
The Cannons I'd built at the ramp of 9:00 were suddenly under attack. My Corsairs and Shuttles of Zealots and Goons and Templar and Reavers immediately headed down to defend. To my dismay (okay, that's a rather weak word for being really pissed off), Queens Broodling'd all but one of my Templar, and a flood of lings, Hydras, Muties, and Guardians rolled into my exp. My remaining Templar did pretty well actually, turning most of the Muties and a number of Hydras into puddles of blood. I webbed a few Hydras and let the rest of my forces clean up. I was pretty amazed by the difference my one Templar made.
I patrolled my Observers around again and found a total of 4 expansions (12:00, 2:00, 3:00, and one of the mineral only spots in the center)..fux again. Not only that, each expansion had a Nydus Canal and two Sunkens on either side of the minerals, not to mention a Spore by each Hatchery that %#@$ing killed all those Observers before I knew what was going on.
My main was mined out, so I sent all my Probes to my 7:30 expansion. A wandering Probe found another enemy exp at 6:00, just starting up. With a warcry of "NO EXP 4U!!!" I unloaded a couple Reavers, Templar, and assorted ground troops on the Hatchery. And with a warcry of "lol" my opponent's well-placed Lurkers killed everything I dropped before I could load them back up. Muttering curses, I sent my Shuttles back home. GRRrrRrrRRrrr.
He's been defending his expansions pretty well up to this point. This is bad. This is very bad. Not only was he outresourcing me, he'd conveniently parasited all my Shuttles and a good number of Templar (besides the ones he BROODLINGED), Corsairs, and Reavers while I wasn't looking, and he's been harassing me with Muties and popping stuff with Scourge. &$#!&%#!@#%^!%#^%@! grrrr this kinda stuff pisses me off. I started a new expansion down at 7:30 for future cash if my plan failed, and loaded my parasitic Shuttles (along with a few non-parasitic ones) with the parasitic stuff and a mass of ground troops. I directed them down to his 6:00 expansion..I'll show you what kinda trouble parasite gets you into bro.

The rest of my troops were headed to the area below the ramp to Mr. Zerg's main. Usually, if I get tired of being fuxed with, this is what I do. It may work, it might not..but it feels good to ignore their little attacks and tear into their main like a soggy sheet of paper. Groups of Zealots and Goons and even some Dark Templar and Archons stream out of Gateways and make their ways to the area, along with a good number of Templar and Reavers in Shuttles. A control group of Corsairs hovers overhead. And my parasitic distraction/destruction crew is at work.
My attack on 6:00 did everything I had hoped. A group of ground troops and a good number of parasitic Templar and Reavers assaulted the expansion, but were careful not to destroy the Nydus Canal..for the moment. Dozens of lings and Hydras poured out of the Canal, and finally I selected all my Reavers and blew up the Canal in a single volley. Yes, despite the Reavers and Templar, my attack force was going to die. But all of his troops were now stuck on the other side of the map for now.
It started with D-Webs. 5 defending Sunkens were suddenly covered by white blurs. Then masses of ground troops (at least 50 total) began storming up the ramp, destroying everything in their paths. I unloaded Templar on the raised temple platforms and Reavers in the midst of my forces. Armies of cracklings, Hydras, Ultras, Muties, and Guardians were slaughtered, although I took some very heavy losses. I had barely enough to hold whatever he could newly hatch and destroy his entire main (including a good 15 Hatcheries at least) after a seriously close and tough battle. I wish I'd gotten screenshots of the Dark Swarms..and everything I had was Plagued/Ensnared.
Charmeleon-dude-whatever surprised me again by completely swarming my new 7:30 expansion and the 9:00 at the same time. Sheer floods of lings, Hydras, and Ultras ran in, and I lost both bases despite some good Storms. Grr just when you think you've got em beat (it's possible he was thinking that same exact thing just a minute before then). Fine, let's have a race. I sent everything to the 2:00 expansion and razed it with little resistance (it was mined out and left with only a few Sunkens). Then down to 3:00. A mini-repeat of my assault on his main took place at 3:00, with evil Broodlings and Dark Swarms and Ensnares and Plagues. I hate good Zergs. I managed to keep a few Templar alive in a Shuttle till the Queens seemed to be out of energy and let the Storms loose. He put up a struggle, but 3:00 was gone.
He was down to two functioning mining bases now. But I was down to one. I sent my asskicking crew over to the mineral only base in the center, which was also well-defended. There were Sunkens galore, but I only had 2 Reavers left. I love D-Web.
After the mineral base was taken down, I headed to his last mining base at 6:00. At this point I started receiving a few messages from Charmeleon informing me that Protoss are not heterosexual and neither am I (not in those words tho). I steamrolled 6:00 and said "fu"..the two magical letters seemed to silence him, and when my forces began hitting the D-Webbed Sunkens in his last base at 12:00, he gave me a "gg" and left.
This was a good game, and I was more on the ropes than I made it seem while was writing this. I thought I was dead on the first Mutie attack, but I got lucky somehow. The odds were really against me. I love games like this. :)
I rarely write BR's, and my writing skill has pretty much decreased over the past couple years of chattin with people on the net. :P Feel free to tell me what I'm lacking. (Besides the obvious.."hey twip u need 2 take screenshots" NO SHIT SHERLOCK)
