Just getting back from my trip to Orlando..I decide to go online and look for some people to play a couple games with. I find Fred-The-Feared and t0ny~lizard sitting in our clan channel and wouldn't you know it, they were planning to 1v1. So...I decided I'd watch and if it was cool write a battle report on it. Well, it was cool so here it is.
The players decide to make the game Zerg vs. Protoss (I don't know why), so they were both forced into picking their races.
Map: Lost Temple :(
Fred-The-Feared (Protoss, 9 o'clock)
t0ny~lizard (Zerg, 3 o'clock)
Both players start out normally with Fred going: pylon, gateway, pylon, forge, and then a nexus at his expansion and t0ny with: hatch at his expansion, pool, hatch at ramp, then a few sunkens and finally gas.
t0ny decides to only scout with an overlord. He finds Fred's expansion too late to take it out with zerglings. Fred had his expansion well guarded for it being so far into the early game with some zealots and two photon cannons. :(.
There are no attacks in the game for some time, both players taking the time to expand and build up their economy.
t0ny expands to the 12 o'clock starting location and later to the 6 o'clock. He also rallies a few zerglings to the front of
Fred's base in hopes of...sealing him in I guess, it was pretty far into the game to only send that many guys though. Anyway, those zerglings are quickly destroyed by a few dark templars that were sent out in hopes of
t0ny not having researched overlord speed. Luckily for
Fred, he didn't have it researched yet and it was fairly easy for him to attack a few of his expansions.

The templars make their way up to the 12 o'clock expansion (as what the refs determined as scouting) and killed most of the drones and troops guarding them. The overlords were too far away to get there in time so
t0ny gave up on that expo and retreated his men.
Fred, for some reason, followed the retreating men back to his main base (without destroying the 12 o'clock base)and then continued to follow them down to his 6 o'clock expansion which he quickly destroys from the lack of detectors. He also goes and destroys
t0ny's mineral only expansion (he was actually heading for his main in hopes of getting past the detectors).
t0ny should have been realizing that he had built too many expansions and not enough of an army to compete with Fred's at about that time. He takes the time, however, to rebuild his recently destroyed mineral only expansion.
After he destroyed t0ny's 6 o'clock expansion Fred takes it over by building a Nexus and a few pylons. He also positioned 8 dark templars in front of that base.
As you can see, the entire beginning part of the game is establishing who gets which base. By this time, t0ny is building up tech with 2 evolution chambers and a greater spire morphing.
Fred is now building up corsairs out of his 6 o'clock expansion and t0ny is building up his devourers. You can almost smell a big air battle coming up soon :D. t0ny still has a now fully functional expansion at 12 o'clock and now expands to 12's natural.
And here come the air wars! They weren't as glamorous as the officials expected but they were still cool hehe. t0ny, moves his devourers on top of Fred's 6 o'clock expo ramp which are supported by lurkers, who don't prove to be much of a help against corsairs... Fred sends his corsairs out to intercept the devourers that he saw with a probe trying to leave his base. However, he underestimated the power of the devourers who quickly destyroyed his army of corsairs.
t0ny realizes he needs to use the zerg vs. toss advantage and kept the pressure on that lower expansion at all times, constantly pestering it with attacks.
In the confusion of the constant lower battles Fred attacks t0ny's mineral only expansion. It seems as if it's going to work for a long time, until t0ny hatches a few hydralisks out of his 12 o'clock base and sends them down to support his lurkers.
Now, realizing Fred's forces must be running low, t0ny rallies all of his troops down to the 6 o'clock base in preparation for a counter attack. The attack is successful (his assumption was right), and Fred now only has 1 mineral income. Obviously, this could prove to be a problem against a Zerg player...or any player for that matter. However, he didn't concede the game yet, and kept building up a pretty decent sized army (given the minerals he had to work with) in the middle of the map.
Too many battles to count then ensued in the middle of the map. Surprisingly, Fred was the victor of them all using a lot of psi storms and carefully attacking with his zealots and dragoons. t0ny, as was commented by many of the officials really needed to work on his macro in this particular game. He didnt really seem to build up armies, just attack with what he had just built. And, obviously, this worked in Fred's favor. It really didn't give him the oppurtunity to expand or attack (zerglings, hydra, mutas or whatever t0ny could manage were constantly attacking the front of his base) but it wasn't very hard to defend.
The only thing Fred managed to do was attack the 6 o'clock expansion that t0ny had made after he took it over. The attack was successful and if he had had a few more minutes he could have split up his forces and defended a base he would make down there, but it wasn't meant to be after t0ny saved up his forces a little and pushed into his base in the final attack of the game.
The game was very well fought by both players. It was very entertaining to watch, one of the refs said it was the best game he's ever seen :), now topping a game with 1st~Tsunami and someone else...But GG to both players and thanks for letting me watch.
