-MrCow-'s Battlereport for Gladiators Rounds 2+3

Battle of the Two Extremes

Well folks, after a furious round one battle in which the tide swings left and right, back and forth, and makes you seasick, we have all been anticipating games 2 and 3 to be the same way, right? Eh...well, sorry to disappoint you guys, but these games don't swing back and forth. Instead, the tide basically sticks to one player throughout the entire game and allows him to completely obliterate the other opponent. But the victors have yet to be seen. I now proudly present, Round 2 of the Gladiators' series!

Unfortunately, both players were pretty stubborn in map choosing. I insisted that a rematch should be played on a different map to display different skills. However, the players kept ignoring me and created another Lost Temple map. Grrrrrrr. Anyways, Subkaiser (who is yellow, but hard to see, so I'll use red), once again selects his ravenous zerg broods eager for revenge and to munch on any opponent, and places his hatchery at the 12 o'clock position. Eborg (who is white, but I'll use green so you can see it), coming off a strong victory, full of pride and prejudice, draws the technological protoss race, whose zealots plan to defend Aiur till the death, warps in his nexus at 6 o'clock. The irony here in this battle is that both players switched colors; Subkaiser was white in game 1 and Eborg was yellow in game 1. Now they've reversed. Subkaiser being yellow and Eborg being white. Hm...conspiracy?

One small concise base, one fairly large, defenseless one... Once again, Subkaiser decides to power up again. He builds a 2nd hatch, spawning pool, 3rd hatch at natural, and 4th hatch at main. Eborg decided to do things differently. He started off with this build: pylon, gateway, gateway, gas, pylon. Tech anybody? Anyway, Subkaiser continues like game 1 to stay at hatchery tech for quite a while before morphing to lair. He powers a huge amount of zerglings and hydras, while getting his natural expansion online. Eborg, being kind of slow, decides to go for a few dragoons with range (dumb. especially against the onslaught of lings), finally hauls in a robotics facility with a support bay. Does it look like reavers to anyone? A shuttle comes out, and after quite a while....the 2 reavers plop out of the robotics facility. While Eborg is busy with building reavers and loading them in the shuttle (which took quite a long time), Subkaiser decided it was time to attack. With about 2 control groups of zerglings and hydras each, he ran the carnavoreous zergs into the protoss natural where Eborg had just finished warping in a nexus to expand, along with his 7 zealots and 7 dragoons for defense. The zerg started raping the protoss troops of their shields and turned their bodies into impaled carcasses. Just then, Eborg's shuttle arrives and drops one reaver to attack the zerglings. It manages to destroy all the zerglings, but soon gets its metallic casing shot full of holes by Subkaiser's hydras. Mwhahaha, zergie blood and goon soup. YUMMY!

The picture itself to the right is enough to say what bloody killings went on at the natural. While losing all his zerglings, Subkaiser still had almost all of his hydras remaining. Hm...let's compare: about 16 hydras ? 7 dragoons. Er...would this be the answer? 16 hydras > 7 dragoons. Yes, that's the right answer. Subkaisers' forces completely obliterated and consumed Eborg's natural and most of his troops. Eborg still has 1 reaver and 2 dragoons above his ramp. They however, quickly succumb to the superior numbers of hydras (you would think that the reaver did quite some damage. If you call 3 hydras dead damage, see a psychiatrist), and Subkaiser makes short work of the main protoss encampment (there were no cannons and 24 probes do not make good defenses against the remaining 13 hydras + reinforcements). Needless to say, Subkaiser got his revenge.
Now that the game's all tied up, who would win round 3 of the Gladiators' tournament? Would Subkaiser make a miraculous comeback, or would Eborg prevail over Subkaiser and claim the champion?

Final Round..FIGHT!

This time, the game gets interesting. Eborg, once again, pretty pissed after losing the rematch as toss, opts for random. This time, a new Command Center landed on the 12 o'clock position. Eborg was white once again, so I'll use green to distinguish him with the text font. Subkaiser once again selects his zerg race and manifests his hatchery at the 9 o'clock position. Once again, Subkaiser, not knowing how to be flexible, decided to go with the power build again (I think you get the idea on what the build is). Eborg, on the other hand, did a wall-in, built a 2nd rax, depot, refinery, factory, academy (something like this...correct me if I'm wrong) and a third rax. Knowing that Subkaiser was going for an early expansion, Eborg decided to build a starport and a second factory for better tank production. My reaction when I saw a starport early
Heartcutter's gotta love this. During this time, Eborg decided it was time to turbo newbie. Loading up a tank, 3 marines and 1 SCV. Subkaiser who was powering still and still at the hatchery tech, morphing into lair, was not happy when he saw the turbo newbie. Subkaiser quickly expanded to his mineral only, but the same tank and another turret took care of this problem. Things were looking very grim for Subkaiser, because Eborg already had 2/2 upgrades for marines, about 30 marines, 9 medics, 4 tanks, and 2 Science vessels. He started gathering his forces down his ramp and expanded to his natural. Subkaiser, sensing the need for resources, expanded to the 6 o'clock natural and mineral only. He also started to mass a large army of zerglings and hydras, with a few lurkers as well. By this time, Eborg has 3/3 upgrades now along with more tanks and Science vessels.

One irradiated lurker. Many dead zerglings. Eborg decided to go on a little harrassment journey. He took 1 Science Vessel and irradiated 3 lurkers. This is what 1 irradiated lurker can do to a zerg army. Now, anxious moments have come. Subkaiser now has a hive and many troops, but Eborg has many fully upgraded marines, Science Vessels and tanks. Now, the armies spot each other and clash, once again, like in game 1, a massive carnage, this time of terran and zerg forces.

Hehe, I love carnage shots... Eborg was victorious in this battle and went on to raze the 6 o'clock mineral only first, meeting serious resistance due to the multiple sunkens. However, a few defensive matrices on marines taking heat took care of the expansion. Eborg now proceeded to Subkaiser's main base. He razed it with little difficulty. Subkaiser, sensing impending doom, decided to expand to the 6 o'clock main and rebuilds a spawning pool and a hydra den and makes one last effort to hold off an attack. However, Eborg's forces were too powerful and easily chewed up the 6 o'clock natural and moved in to destroy the new main. Eborg was clearly the victor in this game and congradulations to him for winning the Gladiators' series. Also, Daggoth, the cerebrate of the Tiamat Broods (Purple) was not happy at Subkaiser's failure to infest the terran forces, slaughtered him as soon as he escaped in his overlord and fed his hide to the hunter-killers awaiting. Great series people, and thanks for letting me observe.
