My Third Battle Report Attempt:
hope you notcied that I wrote Phatman's name in Batman font...hehe

GAME 1

After finishing my 2nd Battlereport and receiving a grand rating of a 7, I was hooked and needed more. I decided, however, to wait for a gg worth making a report on. I soon found one and joined a 1v1 game. The two opposing forces were the honorable protoss tribe commanded by YouWiniLose, and the Terran army commanded by -CrAzY-. The map was Lost Temple. Purple warped in his nexus at the 3:00 position and teched with early gas, going pylon, gas, gate, pylon, cybercore. White went for a terran wall-in at the 12:00 with a rax and two depots at his ramp. He teched with early gas as well, and went for a double factory build (heavy metal anyone?), coming straight from the book of Heartcutter. Grand, Heavy Metal vs Protoss Land, this should be interesting...

Well, the early game was fairly action-less, as most TvP games are. An SCV gets shot down by a dragoon while trying to scout. A probe dies to two marines revealing White's heavy metal strategy. Purple has teched to reavers and built a forge and pylon at the 6:00 main. White has two factories up, along with a starport building. Suddenly a shuttle fills the skies above the Terran's Command Center.

As -CrAzY- brings his troops to protect his minerals, a reaver and a dragoon unload out of the shuttle and start harassing Peons. White hasn't researched siege mode quite yet, so a little microing with an unsieged tank, a couple marines, and the lives of a few peons, and the drop is repelled.

White decides to counter that drop with a little drop of his own, as he slaps on a control tower and builds a drop ship. He loads 3 vultures and heads for Purple's peon line. Unfortunately, Purple's shuttle saw the dropship on its way to his base and put a few dragoons in his mineral line. White's attack was stopped without the loss of a single probe.

White finally realizes that he's going to need more than vultures to win the battle and starts pumping tanks out of his two factories. Purple flies an observer over to White's base and finds that he is fairly undefended and decides to attack. Accompanied with an observer to shoot down those pesky spider mines, the goons march their way to White's choke. He quickly lands his rax and sieges up his tanks, and, according to the book of Heartcutter, Tanks > goons.

CrAzY decides to take advantage of tank range and floats his rax near Purple's tech buildings. He lines up a few tanks to start abusing his buildings as well as puts some tanks behind as back up. Purple retalliates by attacking from both sides of White's tanks, dropping a reaver on top of the tanks doing damage to the tech buildings. He also attacks with a bunch of goons from the front.

A counter-attack is set up by Purple but is stopped by choke defense as long as a group of tanks. White builds a CC to float out to his natural, while Purple finishes his warped nexus. White, however is aware of his expansion, but does not attempt to take it down. A shuttle with a probe lands on the cliff over White's natural and starts a pylon. Before it can warp in any cannons however, it takes heavy fire from siege tanks and goes down. White, seeing that Purple hasn't attacked in quite a while, slowly advances his tanks off the ramp into a more forward position. He spaces out his tanks, just in case of the annoying psi storm, but strangely, Purple doesn't get a single templar all game.

Purple is in serious trouble as white is beginning to mass up tanks and repeat what he did during his first attack. Somehow, Purple doesn't realize that Tanks > dragoons by a wide margin, and continues to mass up on goons. The end is soon near as White's tanks transform to their stronger side and do heavy damage to Purple's pylons, gates, and tech buildings. Using a dropship to spot, he is able to take out much when Purple approaches from the south. They die in a matter in moments. Once the buildings around the perimeter of Purple's base die, white loads his tanks and lands inside his main.

Purple, however, doesn't give up and expands all over the map, and builds a few carriers to annoy White until he could get goliaths. Purple refuses to give up and demands a rematch, which -CrAzY- gladly accepts...

Game 2

The 2nd game was oddly similar to the first game. -CrAzY- gets Brown Terran at 3:00, and YouWiniLose gets Red Toss at 12:00. Things start out basically the same, brown is doing double factory build, while red gets early gas with a cybercore. I start to think, same strats, same outcome, but I decide to stay put and watch the rest of the game.

Brown changes a bit, and gets early tanks, and vultures with spider mines. Red pumps dragoons out of two gateways while keeping all his forces just outside Brown's natural expansion. Brown decides to move up slowly, considering that Red's oppurtunity to attack was long past, and he begins construction of a cc to float to his natural. He lays mines on the choke to his natural and backs it up with about 6 tanks, some at the choke, others on the ramp.

Red also does a little change of strategy. Not only has he finally gotten High Templars, but he decides to tech to GAY-WEB as well. I guess he realized he needed one of the two to beat those damn tanks. He expands to the 9:00 main and puts up two cannons for defense as well as a fleet beacon.

Brown's CC lands at his natural and he Maynard transfers a few SCVs to his natural. He finishes a starport and adds on a control tower, probably for dropships. 3 corsairs pop out of Red's stargate, and I await a fourth one. The last seems to be taking a longer time... and after quite a bit of time, a mighty CARRIER pops out. Hmm... Brown's gonna need some goliaths.

Red, armed with a few goons and a temp, tries to micromanage as best he can to attempt to break Brown's defensive barrier. It is no use however, as the defensive position is well spaced out, letting no more than one tank be affected by a single psi storm. Brown builds another CC to float to the southeast isle, and builds 2 more factories, raising his count to 4. He also gets an armory for goliaths, as a trusty scout outside Red's base revealed his use of carriers.

Red attempts to expand to the 6:00 main, but it is shot down by a dropship with two tanks. The dropship flies to its next target, the 3:00 main. Red uses a couple of goons to get rid of the tanks, and I take a good look at his expansion for the first time. I find that he has about 4 probes gathering minerals, and 3 gathering gas. I scream out in my mind, "wow, he isn't building any probes!". I compare this to Brown's natural, which is thriving with SCVs. He also has an isle expansion and a new CC building for his mineral only expansion.

Brown is slowly moving his tanks in a forward position, now securing his mineral only expansion. He attempts an offensive with around 10 tanks and 6 goliaths, but some psi storm as well as some properly used d-web by Red ends it. Brown retreats and floats his CC to his mineral only, moving his SCVs from his mined-out main to his new expansion. Red has taken the 6:00 main, but isn't building probes there or at his 9:00, to my dismay. Because of brown's defensive position, Red is forced to use a shuttle to transfer his probes to his 9:00 main.

Brown is continually adding to his defense, now having at least 8 factories and 3 working bases. All attempts to attack this "gauntlet" of a defense are futile.

Here's the minimap of Brown's base, including the gauntlet.

The game is starting to get one-sided. Brown has 12 factories working full-speed, and he has taken down Red's 6:00 expansion. Red's 9:00 is also lightly defended and is taken by a few of Brown's tanks. It sucks to be Red.

Brown is about ready for the kill. The sound of tanks unsieging sweeps the battle-field as he moves in for the kill. A battle filled with the dancing of goliaths, carriers, siege tanks, d-web, psi-storm, and dragoons takes place. With great micromanagement by both sides, Brown ends up the victor. GG's are exchanged and as Red has to go, another rematch is not requested.

Lessons Learned:

  • ::nobody::=god; If you ever need help with a BR, html, or editing images, ::nobody:: is the guy to ask. He basically did this whole BR for me =P.
  • Pay attention to your expansions; Red wasn't building enough probes and didn't have enough defense at his expansions, so he lost the resource war hard.
  • Tanks > goons
  • D-web > tanks
  • Goliaths+EMP > D-web
  • T > P, I don't care what the hell you guys say about this 'imbalance' bull-crap. Terran has just as much, if not greater, strength as protoss. If anything, this battle proves it.

Thanx to:

  • ::nobody:: for helping me out a lot.
  • YouWiniLose and -CrAzY- for giving me a good game to battlereport.
  • Pha']['man~pk, for helping me watch this game.
