Welcome to the Dark Temple arena, where we have our contestants for today’s 2on2 match-up
Welcome to the Dark Temple arena, where we have our contestants for today’s 2on2 match-up. The teams are Lit-22- whose red Terrans land their Command Center down at the six o’clock position, and his ally, ~Fod~Titan~ whose purple Zerg broods manifest their presence with a hatchery at the nine o’clock position. In the other corner, we have Bryant (I don’t know what brown is so I’ll use green) who goes random and also takes his infested Zerg broods and morphs them in at the 12 o’clock position. His ally, Terror_v1.04 draws yellow Zerg (whose name will be blue to make the readers’ lives a lot easier) and brings them to fill the 3 o’clock position. Let the game begin!
Each player had their different specific builds. Lit-22-, the only terran, decided to do a standard temple wall-in with 1 barracks and 2 supply depots. ~Fod~Titan~ decided to do a pool then a second hatchery build at his ramp, and then sunken up. Terror_v1.04 decided to do the most annoying thing to a terran (the lurker rush); his ally, Bryant, gets the Oscar of the strangest build I’ve ever seen. He gets a spawning pool, and 2 hatcheries, 1 at the bottom of his ramp and 1 at the top of his ramp. Err…what’s up with that?
Meanwhile, Titan decided to go for an early expansion and brought a drone out to expand to his natural. However, Bryant had other plans. He sent a large wave of zerglings to charge into the expansion and razed the hatchery that just finished. Nevertheless, Titan was able to get a drone to build a creep colony just in his sunken colonies’ range above his ramp, so as he was building, the mean tentacles of the 3 sunken colonies impaled the zerglings. Titan then rebuilt his expansion with plenty of sunken colonies.
Right when this attack was finished, Terror has already gotten 5 lurkers to rush with. He tries to go into Lit-22-‘s base, but finds it fruitless because of the wall-in and an extremely hostile overlord sitting at the choke. He therefore, moves them to the middle of the map. At this time, Terror and Bryant pull an interesting stunt. They both gather some forces outside of Titan’s natural. Bryant charges his zerglings courageously into about 5 sunken colonies, providing a diversion while Terror veers his lurkers past the natural, up the ramp and into the enemy supply lines. Only 2 lurkers make it; however, the supply lines in the main Zerg base are defenseless. Terror burrows his lurkers and wrecks havoc on the drones mining, impaling their poor genetic bodies and turning them into mush. Titan decides to do the wise thing and moves his drones away. Lit-22- in the meantime has gone heavy metal and will bring over 2 tanks to his ally’s base and quash the attack. Terror has taken the opportunity to expand to his natural.
Lit , during this time, sends a Command Center floating to the bottom island expansion while he loads 2 dropships full of tanks over to the newborn infestation at Terror’s natural. He sieges the tanks and begins raining terror down on the mining drones and the buildings below the cliff. Yet, Bryant hasn’t been idle. He has switched gears from mass zerglings to mass mutalisks. He gathers a force of about 7 mutas and destroys all 4 tanks with absolute impunity.
Once again, he and Terror decide to go on the offensive and this time, they shift their attention to Lit. Lit has just started to build a Command Center at his natural expansion guarded by 1 bunker and 3 spread-out tanks. Terror charges in with hydras and lurkers while Bryant provides air cover. Lit’s natural falls easily and is forced to lift-off his Command Center to his main base.
Shortly after, Lit’s island expansion, which never was actually operational even though he had all the time in the world to establish defense and at least more than 3 Scv’s, was discovered by Bryant’s scouting overlord. The mutas chase down the fleeing Command Center and the 2 wraiths defending and raze the 400-mineral building. Lit is not pleased by this turn of events.
In an act of defiance, he loads 2 dropships of 6 marines and 2 medics each and flies towards Bryant’s main. He meets little resistance and starts wiping out the drones and defending zerglings. Wondering why Bryant’s main was so defenseless, he then wonders why half his main base is missing and is occupied by yellow and brown Zerg forces. Terror and Bryant have yet again, launched a massive campaign against Lit. Bryant once again took his mutas and flew into Lit’s main while Terror came in the rear along with Bryant and dropped a payload of hydralisks and mutalisks. The Command Center and many other buildings were destroyed until Titan, who hasn’t been sitting idle, charged in with about 20 mutalisks. He was able to wipe out the attack, but Lit’s main had already suffered severe damage. Casualties on all sides totaled up to about 50.
At this time, Bryant is still going air and Terror is still decides to go with hydras and lurkers. With his ally knocked back to the Stone Age, Titan decides to take matters into his own hands. Massing up an enormous air force consisting of at least 48 mutalisks. He morphs about 5 of them into guardians and mobilizes them to invade the brown Zerg forces of Bryant. Bryant’s main starts falling fairly quickly as his forces succumb to Titan’s superior’s numbers. Terror, seeing his ally dying, decides that his epitaph isn’t good enough and needs him to edit it, so he comes to his aid and drops a huge load of about 24 hydras at his ally’s main. Titan’s forces won the arm wrestle with Terror’s forces and razed Bryant’s main. Bryant, seeing all was hopeless and having to leave anyway, conceded.
All that was left between victory for Titan and Lit was Terror. Terror had a sizeable force of hydras and lurkers, but without the aid of spell-casters, the terran forces mowed down the natural expansion and Titan’s forces ran right over Terror’s base.
The victors: ~FoB~Titan~ and Lit-22-
Lessons learned:
- Spell casters really help! I recall so many occasions that queens and defilers really could have turned the tide for all of the Zerg players. If they had been used, we might have been at it for more than an hour.
- Upgrading helps too!
Terror’s hydras should have picked off Titan’s mutas, but because of the lack of upgrades, the mutas’ glave wurms were able to break the hydras to pieces.
