The Final Four
erawtfos (orange toss, upper right) vs RustyAsHell (Red toss, lower right)
Map: Hot Zone

erawtfos goes with the standard build, pylon, gate, pylon, gas, gate, cyber while RustyAsHell goes for a different strat, pylon, gas, gate, cyber, pylon, gate for a goon only build.
Rusty is the first to venture into hostile territory, and as soon as he has 2 goons, he sends them out to visit with erawtfos. Erawtfos has been making zealots since the gate 1st popped, then began with goons, so at this point Rusty is out gunned. As soon as contact is made, Rusty knows the battle is lost and retreats the goons to join 2 more he has just warped in. erawtfos pursues the 2 goons, but when Rusty's reinforcements arrive, its erawtfos 3 zealots and 2 goons vs Rusty's 4 goons. Both decided it was a battle better left unfought.
Erawtfos made the 1st expansion attempt at the upper left plateau but before the probe could get the nexus started Rusty's 4 goons scouted the area and stopped any thought of expanding this early.
Well after kicking a little probe butt, Rusty is feeling cocky and wants another shot at that 3 zealot 2 goon army erawtfos has, so the 4 goons try to sneak into the enemy base and are instantly detected. Rusty fires a few shots and retreats to buy time for his reinforcements to arrive. Erawtfos persues Rusty and after a short heated battle, and Rusty's 2 goon reinforcements arrive, erawtfos retreats to his reinforcements. Rusty only takes a few seconds to gather his goons and attacks erawtfos base. Erawtfos has been busy making guys too and Rusty is met with heated resistance.

Rusty's reinforcements are on the way, but they have to make the long journey up top. Erawtfos is making goons just as fast but they don't have nearly as far to run. Rusty is beaten back and erawtfos is in hot pursuit. Rusty manages to get a few reinforcements to his retreating troops and yet another battle ensues dead center between the 2 bases.

Erawtfos finally gains the upper hand and forces Rusty to retreat once again to just outside of his base.
rawtfos takes this opportunity to try another expansion attempt at the mineral only patch just outside of his base. He builds a pylon and a forge for cannon support before starting the nexus.
Erawtfos now faces the same dilemma Rusty had. He has Rusty backed up to his front door, but reinforcements are slow to arrive as they have a lot of ground to cover, at least more ground then Rusty.

Erawtfos needs to protect his newly planned expansion so he sends his goons south of the mineral only. At this point Rusty has completed the templar archives and erawtfos has just begun the citadel. Then it happens, Rusty has dark templar!

Rusty sends the DT to meet erawtfos impressive army of goons, erawtfos problem right now is that you cant shoot what you cant see and the goons are forced back into the camp. Rather than pursuing, the Dark Temps take out the pylon and forge, and begin containment.

Rusty now feels the game is his. Rusty must know that erawtfos is running low on minerals as he himself is running out. With erawtfos bottled up, all Rusty needs is an expansion and the game is over. He begins the expansion at the plateau overlooking his main.
Rusty, however, finds out that if you give your opponent long enough, he will develop the same technology you have. Erawtfos sends his 2 new DT's to break the choke and forces Rusty back to his main. Erawtfos, since he could not invest in an expansion, spent his cash on troops. Payback time.
Erawtfos gets a few DT's inside Rusty's base. The DT's take out a cannon then proceed to cause all kinds of trouble, including killing off Rusty's robotics bay, and any hopes of mobile cloak detection.

What better time to expand than this? Rusty is out of the picture, his base is being turning into scrap metal. Erawtfos plops down a nexus at the mineral only he attempted to secure before while still pumping DT's and goons. The trouble with that thought was that Rusty still had some DT's out there and they put an end to that attempt.
Something didn't seem quite right to erawtfos. He had 2 DT's leveling Rusty's base and Rusty is not producing any more troops or trying for detection….hummmm. Ah yes the old hidden expansion trick! erawtfos finds the plateau expansion and with a few goons, begins leveling the place.

But could he be too late? Rusty's sneaky expansion got him an observatory, did Rusty manage to squeak out a mobile detector? The only way to find out is to chase the technology and erawtfos begins his own robotics facility.
For erawtfos, another problem surfaces he is short, very short, on minerals. His best hope is to really put the hurt on Rusty. He sends 4 DT's to Rusty's base, and they begin to take out goons.

Then it happens, he runs out of minerals. The only way for erawtfos to stay in this game is get them from somewhere, so he begins the probe parade to the nearest mineral patch. Rusty's Dt's again cause all kinds of problems. The DT's take out almost half of the defenseless probes before erawtfos can get them back home.

Rusty must not have been able to get that observer out. Both of them are relying on cannons for detection, the only things safe outside of the bases are DT's and there are quite a few of them running around.
Rusty begins a new robotics facility in his main and discovers what erawtfos found earlier, running out of minerals requires longs distance mining. Erawtfos is the first to get an observer and safeguard his probes long journey. At this point, the observers in the game comment on both players amazing containment skills

I missed Rusty completing an observer as I was momentarily distracted as the aroma of dinner filtered into my home office. Actually smoke alarms went off on both floors.
Armed with an observer, Rusty heads north and attacks erawtfos forcing him to retreat into his base.
Erawtfos makes one last attempt to get an expansion and places a nexus on the upper plateau, but Rusty finds it and kills it. Without any income and prevented from long distance mining, the game is over.

February 20th Championship Match
Map Lost Temple
RustyAsHell (Orange Toss starting at the 3 o'clock position) VS ::Excel:: (Purple Zerg starting in the 6 o'clock position)

Rusty starts an early pylon at 7 control, then gate, pylon, and forge. Excel goes 9/9 lord, hatch at his natural, pool.
Then the fun begins. Excel's expansion has barely popped when Rusty's first zealot stops by to say hello.

Cleaver ploy of Rusty's to try to hide the new expansion he started at his natural. After dispatching the 2 zealots Rusty sent, excel needs guys and begins a 3rd hatch, this one also at his natural. Both players also begin to get gas.

Rusty's economy is just beginning to get to going. If Excel had scouted, he would have found that Rusty to this point has been making zealots nonstop from only one gate.

Excel could have over run him with a little effort with speed lings, but economy is what wins games, and expanding is what zerg does best. Excel reaches out to the 9 o'clock natural for a new expansion.
Rusty is now ready to see if he can break into Excel's natural. He musters all 6 of his zealots and marches them to Excel, only to find a mess of lings and several sunkens waiting for him. One look at that hoard and Rusty backs off. He is going to need a lot more to break through.
Rusty however, is an excellent scout. He uses a probe, zealots do not have speed at this point, to patrol the 12 and 9 o'clock expansions. Excel is relying on a lord, stationary in the 12 o'clock natural, and his new 9'oclock expansion.
About the time that Excel begins his hydra den, Rusty begins the Citadel of Adun. Then the unthinkable happens, Rusty's probe discovers Excel's new expansion.

Excel also is curious what Rusty is up to and sends a single ling to scout Rusty's base. Well the probe moves on, but the ling meets 9 zealots and is quickly eliminated.

Rusty is thinking that one expansion is plenty to Excel, so he sends all 9 of his zealots to take out Excel's new expansion. Excel didn't notice the zealots right away but he is not going to just sit by and let Rusty have his way. He sends his entire hoard of lings and hydra to defend. Being that lings are dog gone quick, they easily out pace the hydra and begin the battle by themselves. But it is too late to save the hatch. Having accomplished his containment, and being badly outnumbered right now, Rusty high tails it outta there and right into the slow hydra just now arriving.

Rusty's zealots now have speed and out pace the hydra. Excel decides not to pursue Rusty until the proper upgrades have been completed. He instead sends them to lie in wait in-between the 2 active mains. As soon as the zealots were banished from the 9 o'clock natural, Excel sends a drone to begin a hatch at the 9 o'clock main.
Now both players have their naturals running. Rusty is ahead on resources at this point as he has been making probes nonstop, and Excel has had to choose between lings and hydra or drones. Both players have begun to tech, Excel has evolved the hatch at his main to a lair, and is beginning an evolution chamber. Rusty has completed the Templar Archives. The big difference right now is that Rusty is ahead on resources and has now amassed an impressive 5 gates and 2 forges upgrading.

Rusty is now scouting non-stop. He adds to his scouting probe a zealot, also making the rounds at the 12 and 9 o'clock mains. Unfortunately for Excel it is the zealot that finds the new expansion this time and he is forced to cancel the hatch.
Rusty wants to try this expanding thing, and the best time to expand is during a battle. He sends a probe to the 12 o'clock main, he knows it is empty because he has been constantly scouting. Rusty then gathers his forces and directs them to Excel's base only to find that hoard of zerg waiting for him half way. Again bad news for Excel as part of Rusty's compliment of troops are a couple of High Templar who bring stormy skies.

Excel is able to hold his ground for a bit, but Rusty's 5 gates are pumping guys like crazy and reinforcements arrive quickly. Excel is beaten back even though Rusty does not have goon range.

Rusty now has the zerg contained and he begins to build up his force outside of Excel's choke. But a few of the guys get a little too close and test the waters.

Rusty retreats his troops waiting on new high temps to arrive and when they do, they begin the march on Excel.

After a couple of minutes more, Excel offers a surrender by quitting the game.
Congratulations to the winner of the February 20th Tournament, RustyAsHell.
