Note: this short BR was written to compliment :+:kevin:+:'s Terran v Zerg strat that was posted on Tao of Gaming rather than to entertain with a good game.

After seeing :+:kevin:+: play [DEF]Kosh and X'Ds~Grrrr... I wasn't satisfied. I wanted to see him go up against a real opponent, someone who could really press him hard. So, I messaged nohunters Zerg god I_Hate_Medics. Now, Medics always has groupies chasing after him, and this night was no different. Battle reporting legend ::Nobody:: had been following him for weeks now just in case he played a game worthy of reporting, and along with ::nobody:: came the great Obiwanjebroni, Protoss guru, jazz dancer, and respected gourmet chef. Both of these guys joined me in the Lost Temple observer slots to watch the very epic.....

Part one: Greased like lightning

The game started, I_hate_medics being zerg and Kevin snagging terran. I_hate_medics opened with an early expand build order, where he got a second hatchery at his natural expansion, then a spawning pool, and an extractor shortly afterwards. Kevin followed the build in his strategy guide, where he goes one barracks and then gas followed up by a factory and then a starport right away.

In the early game, the zerg player's best counter to this is power zerglings. Mass zerglings, upgrade their speed, and then charge up the terran ramp. Luckily for the terran, however, there are a few counters to this. One of them is build a bunker right behind the wallin after you've scouted and made sure that he's going power zlings. Another one, which Kevin used this game, is to use an SCV to block the zling path, thus letting the marines take free shots while the zlings chase around their tails and basically act stupid.

Another thing you could do is put two SCVs on the ramp and make them repair eachother, although that's a little overkill in most situations.

Medics, however, did not test Kevin's mettle with early zlings. Instead, he made a few sunkens for defense, and focused on drone production.

Part two: is this phase one of lumpy gravy?

At this point, no decisive moves had been made. This changed as soon as Kevin made his first wraith. ::Nobody:: said it best: Yeah, things didn't look too good for Medics. He had a hydralisk den in progress, but that was it. The wraith flew over the lair and morphing hydra den looking for overlords, managing to kill two before it was chased away by a hydralisk. -

As his first wraith was being made, Kevin researched siege mode, and then started making tanks. Shortly after the wraith arrived back home, a dropship popped out and loaded up a tank, three marines and an SCV. A bunker and a siege tank on a cliff overlooking your expansion is a real bitch, especially when you've been concentrating on hydralisk to lurker tech, as was the case here. Medics lost his natural. Not giving up, Medics expanded elsewhere. He went to the left main start spot, put up a defense above the ramp consisting of a hatchery and a few sunkens, and then made a hatchery at the resource node.

Back at home, Kevin had added a few barracks and floated a command center down to his natural. He had a few tanks, but was mostly concentrating on marine and science vessel production.

Part 3: Dude ranch blues

At this point, nobody (no pun) had faith in Medics. He hadn't killed anything but scouting SCVs, and Kevin was outproducing him pretty badly. Finally Kevin moved out a force of a whole lotta marines and medics, four science vessels, and two tanks. The battle started when some of Medics's lurkers got surprise-irradiated.

Things were pretty ugly from here on in. Medics just got run over by a whole lotta marines and science vessels.

Yeah, Medics got beat down pretty bad. Now, I liked this game. I liked it because Kev beat Medics, and by doing so gave me the chance to vicariously fullfil my dream of shutting Meds down. Anyway, hopefully you all learned something today.. I know I certainly did.. Never perform open heart surgery on a drag queen.
