Here, straight from Starcraft.org, is my third submission to this wonderful site from my classic battle reports. This one is special, because it happens to be my very first battle report ever. Keep in mind I wrote this while Vanilla SC was still young and had things to be learned in it, and therefore I wasn't exactly the most decisive or aggressive player. Hell, I hated rushing at the time. Anyway, just bear in mind that A: I was fairly fresh into SC when I wrote this, B: 24 BCs duking it out seemed like the biggest fleet battle imaginable back then, and C: This was before I could tune my pacing, so it goes fast, but bear with it. So, without further ado, I give you:

THE WEREMUPPET ARCHIVE: THE GREATEST FLEET BATTLE

One night, while on one of my usual war sessions on Kali, I entered into a 2v2 game on Hunters. Our foes never went private, and so I, feeling silly, floated my Command Center elsewhere, slowing me down. Needless to say. my partner and I were defeated, but I chose to fight to the death. One of the enemies then said something to the degree of "The Lamer of the Year award goes to Red for not quitting.", to which I replied "Wouldn't you two win that award for never going private?" This same guy then challenged me to a 1 on 1. Itching for revenge, I accepted. And so it began. Here's the setup:

Map: Sherwood Forest

Me: Purple Terran, East.

Him: Blue Terran, North West

As the game started off, I built up my usual forces, getting a decent bunker/tank/turret defense. I also got a Com Station, and began scouting the map for colonies. During one of these sweeps I located a colony below my position, a potential threat if allowed to live. I sent down a dropship loaded with a Seige Tank and four marines. His defensive Marines couldn't stop my mighty tank, and the colony was soon annilhated. At this time, figuring he wasn't very aggressive (Nor was I, but who's counting), I decided to do something that was both time consuming but fun: Build up a Battlecruiser fleet.

From my 2 Starports, I was soon churning out Battlecruisers and Science Vessels. At the same time I started a new colony in the South, protected by the Tank and marines that had previously destroyed his colony. I then proceeded to find yet another colony in the North East position, which, using the same four marine/tank combo, I was able to destroy with ease. At this point my fleet was nearing completion, and I was pretty sure Blue had no more colonies. I sent off my 12 Battlecruisers, escorted by a single Science Vessel, to the south of his base.

Despite my almost assured victory, having a fleet of 12 BCs against an expansionless Terran, I couln't help but wonder if he had been doing the same. He was. As I arrived there, what else did I find but a fleet of Blue Battlecruisers heading south, probably sweeping the area for my bases! Deciding to stop him in his tracks, I attacked the tailing cruiser. My Science Vessel came under fire and was destroyed before it could get an EMP off. But I didn't need it, it looked to be an even fight. A little careful Yamato and I would be fine.

Then it hit me like a diamond bullet through the skull. All those hacked up little arms........ that they had the strength to do that....... oh wait, wrong story...... Anyway, it hit me like a diamond bullet through the skull - I had never upgraded my Battlecruisers' armor and weapons, and here I was facing a fleet just as big as my own, but fully upgraded. However, I chose to fight it out rather than let him continue on to my expansion. Volleys were exchanged, Yamatos powered up, but my antique ships were no match for his top of the line monstrosities. Every blow he made was much greater, and every blow I made lesser. The captain of my last ship screamed as his vessel was consumed in fire.

When my last ship fell, my foe was left with 4 damaged Battlecruisers. It was a spectacular battle, and though very costly, it probably saved me in the long run. I then threw my efforts back to my base. I built some new armories, a new pair of battlecruisers, and some Science Vessels. I had to recover from this. After that I started getting some Wraiths when all of a sudden I spot on the horizon six Battlecruisers heading towards me - he must have gotten two more as I had. If I wasn't smart I would die.

My defending bunkers, towers, and tanks fell beneath a hail of laser bursts, but slowed him down enough for me to make my move. I sent one Science Vessel at the fleet to EMP it. It was killed first. I sent my second. The EMP launched and castrated the enemy ships of their most powerful weapon. I took my two new Battlecruisers and Yamatoed one of the incoming enemy ships, and then finished it off. My now level 1 Battlecruisers held their own for a moment, but soon fell. I was left with my Wraiths. The moment of glory was now. I cloaked my Wraiths, and began to pick away at the detectorless fleet. When he Com Sated the area I pulled out, but was soon back, destroying the fleet. 6 Wraiths, unseen to my foe, bombarded his craft with Gemini missles, destroying core systems and turning his once proud ships to rubble. When the flames cleared and the debris landed, the fleet was gone, and it was time for a counterstrike. My new Wraith squadron, the heroes that had saved the day, prepared to exact justice upon my foe. Just as my Wraiths were getting ready for their attack run my foe says to me "GG. I have no resources left." And with that he surrendered. I had come back from getting my Victory Fleet totally destroyed, and had learned several valuable lessons of battle:

1. DEFEND YOUR MINING OPERATIONS: This guy didn't want to commit Seige Tanks or Turrets to his colonies, and for that he payed dearly, as he was not able to rebuild his fleet after it was wrecked. I, however, had plenty of resources left, since my expansion never came under fire.

2. UPGRADE, UPGRADE, UPGRADE!: My fleet was destroyed mainly because I neglected to upgrade my Battlecruisers with better weapons and armor.

3. BE PREPARED: My enemy was building more or less straight towards a Battlecruiser fleet, and so when I looked at his base, it was more or less devoid of defensive units. Had I not been in a silly mood that night, I probably could have taken him out with those 8 marines and 2 seige tanks that came to destroy his colonies.

4. A MAN DOES NOT LIVE BY COM STATIONS ALONE: My enemy thought the Com Satilite would be adequate to stop my Wraiths. He was wrong. If you're going to commit a massive fleet to battle, escort it with a detector so they don't get Wraithed to death.

5. KNOW YOUR MAP: My enemy didn't know too much about Sherwood, as he later admitted. He didn't even utilize the choke points. Know your maps people, it'll save you later on. (On the other hand, knowing maps is what keeps people playing LT and BGH incessently, what am I talking about? Try new stuff! There are good maps outside your favorite three!)

I tried to make some improvements, but that's the bones of it. Thanks for reading!
