Did you see the cool thing above?

Mogalin vs. Portuguese[DK]

&nbspThe following game occured on a cold January's afternoon in Fonthill, Ontario. The game was between myself, Mogalin, and Portuguese[DK].

&nbspI awoke this morning at 12:00, lunch-time. I dashed downstairs to eat some soup which my sister had concocted. It was pretty good, and warmed me up nicely.
&nbspThe previous night had been spent trying to fix Battle.net. I eventual fixed it through complex downloading and some port stuff the TRD told me to do. By the time I had it fixed, it was 2:00 a.m. and I was dead tired.
&nbspHaving not played on glorious, godly, glamorous, Battle.net for over a week, I raced downstairs even before having a shower to be met with the sight of my sister playing "Pokémon DBZ Madness 4.409!!"
&nbspI waited her out and the computer was mine, all mine!

I quickly logged on. A simple command was typed:

"/join nohunters"

Odd. It was empty. I followed that by another simple command:

"/joni nwtr"

Nothing happened. Perhaps I had misspelled? ;)

Anyways nobody was in NWTR and my sister was still hanging around and she told me to go to her latest clan channel, Dark Knights. I waltzed in and thought of the way I would look most badass. I came up with the following:

";-<"

&nbspEverybody instantly knew I was 100% BadAss because I could do the Omni smile so speedily. I asked for a 1v1 one time and they all bragged that Portuguese[DK] was their best show. I said nothing else but ;-< // ;-<.

Portuguese[DK] had specifically requested 'The Lost Temple (asdf)' ...

Mogalin: Ack, looks like I'm in for trouble playing a BGH lover! ;-<
Portuguese[DK]: *rolls over and dies from Omni wink-grimace*

&nbspTwo other of his clan members, Ninja[DK] and BloodHoUnd[DK] also joined requesting a 2v2... we had strictly stated it was gonna be a 1v1 but they joined to bug us. I suggested we allow them to obs.

BloodHoUnd[DK]: Be Terran? Lift off? Why would I do that?
Mogalin: And you have to senselessly slaughter all your SCV's to boot!
Ninja[DK]: I'm going Toss

&nbspAfter 5 minutes of sorting things out and them finally grasping the conecpt of 'observers,' the game had begun.

&nbspIt was yer average, run-of-the-mill 1v1 Random vs. Random on LT. I received 6 Zerg.

&nbspFirst move of the day was to clone my 4 Drones. With 2 obs, both on plain ISP's, there was enough lag for me to get all 4 Drones to work even before the initial lag screen came up! I knew this was gonna be a good game. I then sent my OL to 9 to scoutie. I went with my easily countered (;-<) Drones till 9, Hatchery at choke, ~16 S. Pool, OL, and a final 3rd Hatchery at my natural. I figure it's a decent anti-random BO... leave me some comments in comments section. I followed up by throwing down 3 (ick) sunkens at my natural's choke.

"Sparky the Wonder Zergling" went scouting. I couldn't believe I hadn't scouted earlier. I really knew this was gonna cost me but I hadn't seen any of his units yet either... so neither of us knew each other's races. Sparky quickly raced to the 3 spot considering my wandering OL hadn't found anything interesting at 12 except for BloodHoUnd[DK] mining.... Wait a second!

&nbspAnother 2~3 minutes were spent again explaining the 'oh-so-complex' idea of obs... Anyways back to Sparky.

&nbspSparky raced up the 3 ramp and was swiftly pummeled by a bunker with three or four Marines hanging around lookin' tough. Ouch. Luckily, Zerglings are spawned in packs of two, so he had a brother, "DC." DC would do nothing important at the time. I sent an OL to his cliff to see when attacks were coming.

While Sparky had been scouting I had been hatchin' lingerooskis out of 3 hatches. I figured I could race past his bunker, lose about half of my ~18 lings and lay rape to SCV's. I also threw down gas at both exp's (absurdly late vs. a Terran, IMO) for Lurker production.

&nbspThe lings dashed past the bunker taking very minimal losses... I lost around 5! I dashed to the SCV line when I heard the hiss of Stim and nearly a dozen Marines lay waste to my lings. I wasn't sure where the Marines had come from, but they could do some damage if Medics were dispatched shortly. I threw down my Hydralisk Den and began a Lair shortly after the failed attack.

&nbspIn response I expanded to my mineral natural (a trick Invincible-SCV taught me) ... but that Hatchery wouldn't be done when the Terran pimp squad hit... I needed a counter... fast.

&nbspMy Lair was 75% done and the den was complete. Gas was piling up, nearly 400 now. Suddenly, my OL spotted the pimp squad leaving the Terran stronghold. My Den had completed and I ordered up 4 Hydra's to start... Gas was holding at 500. I couldn't break past his bunker to get recon so I had no idea what to expect... mass MMF? Tank push? Sci rush?

&nbspMy OL was as far out as he could go without dying. All he spotted was ~12 Terran infantry units. I began researching Lurker Aspect and began morphing my 6th and final Hydralisk. Once he morphs I hotkey the 6 as "5." I was on top of my supply, doing well, when that tell-tale voice informs me I'm under attack. ;-<

The OL on my cliff reveals the scene in its entireity. 3 Siegies, and 12 Marines. No meds! I almost pooped my pants ... I would have a chance!

"Upgrade complete." *Taps SpaceBar* Hydralisk Den centered in view. *Taps 5* *Taps "L"*

&nbspAnd we all know what that does. The 6 Hydras are positioned atop my Main's ramp, because it is where I have stored all of my tech buildings. The "mini-push" almost literally tears through my hatching Hatchery (chuckles) and all I can do is wait for my Lurkers to finish.

&nbspI have been ordering up Hydras and OL's from my three hatches the whole time. My Choke defense force now consists of 7-8 Lurkers, and 5-6 Hydras. I also put a few OLs over them to take some shots.

&nbspI cancel my morphing Hatch in the nick of time and I get a big boost of cash. It goes to the purchase of two sunkens on my ridge. By now I have a frighteningly high number of sunkens with 6 in total. My Lurkers finished morphing a moment ago and the Terran mofos begin work on my Natural expansion. The Tanks blast at the Sunkens (3 down there, 2 on ridge).

&nbspTwo more Tanks roll up on the scene along with a handful of Marines and a single Med. I decided it would be too hard to save my natural from the pimpin mofos. The decision has been made: hold the choke.

&nbspI switch a few more Hydra's into Lurkers. He's containing me. However, every little bit I see he is comsatting my two Sunkens on the ridge. This is very good, because he has no SCV's to make turrets. He scans one more time and I decide I must make my move.

My plan...
To use my large force of Lurkers, Hydras, Lings, and OL's to destroy the Terran containment and allow me to get back in this so far on-sided game.
What happens...
The Lings go first followed by OL's. Lurkers come next ;-< followed by Hydras. The tanks target the Lurkers because he has no detection at his containment site. The Lurkers (the 6 that burrow) instantly dice the Infantry in one simultaneous shot (it was beatiful). The Hydralisk follow-up finished and squabblers.
What I learned...
He definitely should have brought SCV's to make bunkers and Turrets. They could have easily spelled my doom, but he did have to contend with my two sunkens that were making things difficult for him. I also learned I like these
tag thingies.

&nbspHaving broken out of the wallin, I did two things... I sent DC, Sparky's brother/sister (who knows, who cares) scouting for expansions. He came across a doddling SCV who had *just* begun to construct a CC. DC raped his ass Zergling style bringing his kills to 1. He followed that up by killing the CC! He was already the most cost efficient Zergling I had ever seen, and his work was just getting started with 450 minerals destroyed.

&nbspI also sent in two Hydras (1/1 just finished) to see if he had a) expanded, b) tanked his ridge. Unfortunately, both of these things were true.

&nbspSeeing how a counter-attack wasn't possible, I decided to take the opportunity to do two things... expand thrice and throw down dual Spires (I was spending money badly after I micro'ed my break-out attack so much) for mucho upgrades. A Queen's Nest soon followed. I took my natural, my mineral natural, and the 12 natural.

&nbspI had almost 0 recon except for my OL sitting above his cliff... unfortunately he didn't see the CC float by when I went to scout the bottom right island with an OL from home, he was deftly pummeled by a plethora of Missile Turrets (that's my big word sentence ;-<)

&nbspMy dual Spires and three new Hatcheries finished in very near times considering they have the same build time =P. I had gotten ahead on support and let 3 larvae grow at each site (except for the fresh hatches, they had only 1) and I had a Terran-slayin' Baker's Dozen of Mutalisks.

&nbspThe first move was to hit his main's peons. Minerals were running low here and I really did some damage. Once the Marines showed up, I split. I got his CC into the red and thought about infest but had no Queens... maybe another time, oui?

&nbspThe Mutas dashed around the outskirts of his base to his natural. It housed a great many SCV's and was literally nude... (nude exp = Muta rape) DC also stopped another exp.

&nbspUnfortunately, a big Terran force came knockin' on my doorstep =[. I'm not exactly sure where they came from but they hit my natural, hard. It was a beastly force, mostly MMF with about 5 tanks for support, and around 5 Sci's, too. I really had no clue where he was affording this when I remembered his bottom right island. Greater Spire production took place instantly, due to my freshly morphed Hive.

&nbspRight now either one of us could win, although I definitely have the resource advantage. Unfortunately, he has a big attack on me right now that has the potential to waste me.

My plan...
To destroy the Terran containment (ack, again).
What happens...
I, with my absolute resource advantage, keep pumping sunkens. He dares not send his Marines in and he is reduced to two tanks by my 2 Dozen Zergling Attack (DC was unharmed). This wasting of time allows my Greater Spire to finish and 12 Guardians are morphed from my inital ~15 Mutalisks. The Terran Squad is defeated, again.
What I learned...
Defend your fawkin' exp's!

&nbspThings are really looking up for me. My plans for victory are quickly quabbled as a new Terran Threat is established, a 16 MMF drop in my main. He rips up my Greater Spire and normal Spire in a matter of seconds. He's keeping the pressure on me so, that even with my advantage, he could still win. I'm really getting embarassed that I'm losing. I dispatch my Guardians to destroy his drop and they are successful. The Guardians next target is the bottom right island.

&nbspAround this time I remember there are two islands. D'oh.

&nbspOL flies up, and dies to Missile Turrets. Hooray!

&nbspLuckily Guardians (especially in packs of 12 ;-) own turrets pretty bad. I've backed my air force up with a bunch of Mutalisks and a handful of Scourge. They make quick work of the "three-turret-and-a-wraith" defense.

&nbspOn to the next island right?

&nbspWrong. I have a few words to say:

Nuclear Launch Detected.
Nuclear Launch Detected.
Nuclear Launch Detected.
Nuclear Launch Detected.

&nbspThat can never be good. There was 4 or 5 Nukes, all over my multiple spreadout bases. Luckily, 2/2 DC was on hand and he got rid of one nuker. Wandering Hydra/OL luckily got one more but in the next 20 seconds I lost a lot of stuff.

&nbspI had about 10 Drones left after the nukes. I had to start spending wisely. I had to get rid of his main -- and fast. I didn't have any very good ideas. Luckily, my ZRAF (Zerg Royal Air Force) survived and his top left island exp fell quickly.

&nbspThe game has been going a solid 40 minutes now and the map is getting low on resources. We have continuous battles and DC gets several new kills: another Ghost, a Sieged Tank, and a Marine. He is by far the most cost efficient Zergling ever and I don't want him to die. He has 7 kills.

&nbspThen I remember a very, very good thing Newt taught me about once... Defilaz (spelled for pizazz) . Consume is researched as 5 Deffies are concocted from simple larvae. Things, once again, are in my favour. I have crippled his income.

&nbspThe Zergling/Hydra/Dark Swarm attack is very successful. I do extensive damage but he lives on. I really have no clue where he is getting income from... then I remember that sneaky 12 min natural. I arrive and it's empty. Perplexed, I try the 6 natural, the 6 min natural... nothing, nothing nothing!! Where oh where could he be? ;-<

&nbspSearching, searching, searching (whilst amassing forces) ... I see a blue dot briefly at the 9 min natural... I follow it and DC goes on a kill frenzy.. for he/she (we've been through this, people!) found a CC a fair distance away from the minerals. Now that I know that he's hurting this bad for minerals I know I can win. So I do.

&nbspMy final attack consists of every zerg unit in the game (save for Ultras). Air/Ground attacks are all 3/3 and his death comes quick. I'm about to say "gg" when RED tanks come pouring in to my main hacking my stuff up. Apparently, BloodHoUnd[DK] thought it would be a grand old joke to kill me. Needless to say, since we played on melee, I made sure he didn't get a win ;-<

(Note: BloodHoUnd cares excessively about his record, so he doesn't like me anymore cuz he wanted a free win.)

Victor: Mogalin. Game time was 56:38.

the report's single image!

  • This game was definitely a good victory for me, because in most cases Terran > Zerg.
  • Using OL's to take some hits is a pretty good strategy. It distracts Marines from getting to your killer forces and OL's have a buff 200 HP.
  • The guy re-logged with a 1350 name so therefore if I can beat a 1350 player ZvT I actually have some skill (contrary to popular belief).
  • I tried to use some fun HTML and Java here, hope they work...
  • This game took place a few days b4 ladder reset so it was a while ago.. not exactly crystal clear in my memory ;-<
  • This report was inspired by one of Omni's old text BR's, him vs Maelstorm7. I loved reading it and tried my own imitation, with a new school twist ;-<.
