Little did I know how it would turn out. All three chose Protoss. I started top left. Dead-Man (not his real name, but his eventual fate)started bottom right, and the creator of the game as well as the map, Fire_Tides started top right. The map from early appearences looked to be 4 starting points, 1 in each corner, with high sand dunes separating each base with an enterance to the center. Resources were jacked to 50k to my dismay. 1 geyser & 17 minerals, however 7 of the minerals were inaccesible. I said, and I quote "this map sux". But I stayed anyway. I wanted to own this punk. The set up complete, on to the action.
Knowing this was going to be Toss wars, I started pylon on 8, Then gateway on 9, another gateway on 10, forge on 12. I put my second pylon in the center of the map for some early warning. My probe "Zippy" takes a peek top right and dies. Looks like a Fire_Tides is a cannonboy. By that time, the center pylon finishes and i see a red dot leaving its vision going into my base. Great, looks like offensive cannons. I put down a few of my own, just to keep him at bay. As well as making some zealots of my own. At this time, I also set down my assimilator and Fire_Tides says "I gonna attack who I see first". At this time, I start thinking they are allied because I did not see anything from DeadMan. I am surprized to see that when my cannons come on line, I don't see opposing cannons but several zealots. When he did come after me with about 12 zealots, I had 8 plus about 5 cannons in the immediate vicinity. With a little bit of micro, I took his z's done with loss of only 2 cannons & 1 zealot. I set down my cybercore and made some more zealots. Fire attacks again, but this time. with even less success. Also happening at this time, DeadMan takes down my pylon in the middle of the of the map with Z's & goons. I have my first goons by this time. I lure Deadman's troops in, so that my cannons come into play assisting my Z's & goons in his destruction. I set down the citadel at this time. Turns out Fire made 2 gateways in my base. Then I start taking them down. Fire then tells me, those a just a diversion. WTF, 2 attacks & that's it, what is his plan. I make my Templar Archives, get a DT & a HT. DeadMan starts moving in a goon squad. Damn it, forgot to research storm. My DT starts his slice & dice on the goons, they retreat. I get more DTs, do it to him several more times, until he is afraid to come out of his base. I know what you are thinking, time to get some observors. I thought that too, but he didn't. Go figure.
I am thinking that he will try the same stunt on me. I lay donw a Robotics Facility then an observatory. All is quiet right now. I launch a shuttle, load up a probe & start cannons on the ledges going into bases. Gas starved game, viable tactic. My first obsevor pops out, sent it exploring, saw what DeadMan was doing (whole lot of nothing). Go towards bottom left. WTF, 12 geysers & who knows how many minerals & Fire_Tides mining happily away!!! Naked expansion at that. SONOFABITCH, a setup map.
Fine, I'll play his game. I try to walk my 3 DTs in, but to no avail. Great, high ground all around this place. I load up my shuttle with the DTs & a probe. Drop them out of sight, chop down his Nexus, then the probes & the assimilators. His try to start some pylons, but is already too late. I destroyed his expansion with impunity with 3 DTs. See lines about observors 2 paragraphs up. Again, go figure. Then DeadMan says, "he killed your base", Tides responded "dont worry I have enuff". Thus confirming my suspicions about being allied & warning me that I am going to be on the recieving end of a carrier rush.
Fortunatly, I am no dummy. I had already placed cannons in the expected path & had about 8 fully charged templar waiting. Tides decides that he did not like me taking his base. Sends in 4 scouts, which died to my cannons already in place. Then DeadMan sends in a Arbitor, a scout & a corsair. Did you know that a D-web on a pylon does not work? Deadman did not. I launch an attack on DeadMan's main. 8 goons & 16 zealots. Turns out that was enough to put him out. Dumbass had a couple of temps, but they were stuck in between buildings. He probably lost them. That cost him dearly. I was going to leave him a pylon so he could watch the rest of the game, but he left.
I imagine Fire_Tides was feeling deparate at this time or thought I was weakened. His carriers come over the hilltops, full into my base, only to meet 3 cannons & 8 templar. After my storming of 1 of my templar, I ended his offensive quickly with no other losses. Apparently, to him, this was incredibly cheezy. Finally, endgame.
I take the 1 shuttle I have, load up a probe. I cannon up his ledge closest to his minerals. Damn, nothing in range. Fine, I make another Robotics Facilty & Support Bay. Reaver drop time. He has more carriers I discover with an observor, but still no detection. After some taunting, he says observors are cheezy. It's time to end this stupid game. I move my force of zealots & dragoons into his base. Gathering them before attacking, so they don't conga line into his defenses. Load up 2 reavers. Attack move gound troops. WTF, his defenses consist of cannons & carriers. After a brief battle, all but 2 of his cannons are destroyed, all his probes blown up, my troops sent to goon factory and my reavers picked back up to the safety of my cannon fields on his ledges. I made more goons to distract the carriers while my force of 8 DTs took out the last 2 cannons and commenced to finishing him off.
According to him, DTs are cheezy as well. I suppose had he noticed the reaver drop, that would have been cheezy also.
Fire_Tides then had the audacity to aks for allied vic. Pffft, not gonna happen, not after this ambush map. Again he demands allied vic. Again, no. "what are you gonna do, disconnect". Sure enough, thats what he did.
LESSONS LEARNED:
Anything you do to win is cheezy.
