Before Game:
After finishing a late dinner I decided to call up my one friend SCV who plays Brood Wars almost everyday. I asked him if he wanted to play a quick team game and he said why not. We made a game after advertising it a little bit and two others joined in right away. (Shockwave [xpow] and ~i~Dragon~ made up the other team)
The Start Off:
Everyone was set for Random and the game was underway. My partner (Ardent-SCV a.k.a. Invincible-SCV, Lovable-SCV, Unstoppable-SCV… well you get the picture) and I started in the 12 and 9 position. I ended up as Zerg and SCV ended up as Terran.
After a quick scout with an overlord and scv we found out that Shockwave[xpow] and ~i~Dragon~ were both Protoss! Shockwave also entered my base around the same time with a probe and drove me nuts with little hit and run attacks on my drones with it (I’m sure he was amused).
A minute or two after game start ~i~Dragon~ paused the game and stated that he had to go check up on his father’s laundry. While he was away Shockwave was complaining about why he gets stuck with someone out of the blue and he wanted to restart the game so that he could have his pal –Pitt as his partner. After that ~i~Drag came back and Shock sounded really enthused that his partner came back in time and the game continued.
First Attack:
I had three hatcheries by this time (one at choke and two at mineral) and was about ready to start one at my natural. While waiting for the long build time of the expansion I continuously made zerglings and SCV made a formidable army of marines and medics. We grouped in front of Shock’s base and headed for the choke.
When we arrived at the choke it was blocked by a couple of zeal’s, drags, and freshly warped cannons in the back. We quickly turned around to try our luck with ~i~Drag, little did we know that he had about the same defense. After we knew getting in from the front wasn’t going to happen any time soon we started to go for air and more technological units.
But we left our small armies in front of their bases just to make sure no expansions come along. Fussing with Shock for a little bit I finally couldn’t keep his zealots and dragoons from taking the natural, but SCV’s marines down at ~I~Drag’s base didn’t get to see any action.
Mid Game:
I quickly went for mutas while SCV went for some tanks and dropships. Since muts are real gas hogs I tried for and expansion at the top left island. When my overlord arrived it found a newly created base from ~i~Drag, there was a nexus up and two pylons with about 4 or 5 cannons coming in. I rushed my overlord out and told my partner of my discovery.
While I had found the toss expansion SCV found one at the lower right island. I then took my twelve newly hatched mutas and sent them to the lower right. I achieved in taking out his pylon, two cannons, and nexus but Shock held it off well with a few High Templars (High Temps are nice… but I really really hate it when they are used against me).
SCV was keeping Shock busy by placing tanks on the cliff behind his natural. It took a few attempts to get it to finally stay but when your plan gets a visit from two zeal’s and a dt it doesn’t work very well.
I was getting desperate for gas so I morphed my mutas into 6 guards and about 8 or 9 devourers (I also had 1 queen and 12 scourges). I sent the guardians in first to take out the cannons at ~I~Drag’s expansion on the upper left island but the guards were scared by a psi storm. The HT ran back into the darkness to recharge it’s powerful magic. A surprise attack of 7 sairs was stopped by the Dev’s and scourges (I didn’t get a chance to see who’s they were… the acid spores made a mess of them). Splitting the group of wounded guards into three groups I then continued with my assault. I then noticed the HT coming back for another laugh, but my queen made him explode into two little bugs.
Late Game:
The expansion was gone and Shock decided to go on the offensive with a fleet of 8 carriers. I sent my massive devourer army which consisted of about 18 of them now over as fast as I could. It was a back and forth battle, Shock tried to use his carriers to draw my Dev’s into his base where he had some HT’s and drags waiting for them. As this was going on SCV started his tank push and devastated the front defense.
When Shock realized what was going on he replied “ well.. no use going on now… gg.”
After leaving it seemed that ~I~Drag’s feelings were hurt to see his ally give up so early but since he was running dry on resources he had no other choice but to quit also.
And what’s the moral of the story? Make sure you expand quickly and let your opponent starve!!
I hope you guys like this BR a lot better than my first one… after reading some of the comments I knew I needed some improvement so don’t be so harsh anymore….
