KoreansEatDogs v [Xe'L]Skittles

Introduction

Hey all. This is my first BR, but I'll try my little heart out and use the best of my decent HTML knowledge. So without further adieu, here are the pre-game occurances.

I had just finished a 2v2 dire game with my friend dmb!! in which he saved my ass and proceeded to win a 2v1, which is often the occurence of the games which I play with him =] I told another friend of mine, KoreansEatDogs (yes, name is a little odd), aka Evire!!, who is the younger brother of NewbieMcIdiot, to go find someone in NH to smackdown ... err, play. So we go to NH, ask for a 1v1, and [Xe'l]Skittles answers the challenge. So, KoreansEatDogs hosts up a game. I promptly join, and declare myself as a BRing obs ^_^. So, after dmb!! acts like an idiot and leaves, we start.

Gay Temple

So very gay

KoreansEatDogs: Randoms to Terran at 12
[Xe'l]Skittles: Randoms to Zerg at 6

Here we go ...

Well, after initially seeing the races and starting locations, i felt they were relativly even. Terran has a slight advantage over zerg, but i felt it would be negated since KoreansEatDogs began at the 12 start, giving him a disadvantage from the beginning since he would be unable to build a Comstat add-on at his natural.

On to their Build Orders

Both players had their anti-random BO's and went as follows:

KoreansEatDogs's: Depot, SCV scouts clockwise, Rax, Rax, Depot, Gas

[Xe'l]Skittles's: Ovie, Extractor Trick for 10/9 supply, Hatchery at the top of his ramp, Pool, Extractor, and Hatchery at his natural

KoreansEatDogs's little SCV ... let's call him Putz =] Anyway, he found [Xe'l]Skittles at the second place he looked, and arrived in time to see [Xe'l]Skittles's hatchery at the top of his ramp, as well as a pool and extractor building. Meanwhile, KoreansEatDogs has added an Academy, Factory, and Engineering Bay to complement his 2 Barracks. KoreansEatDogs has produced marines non-stop from those barracks, and the marines engage in stimulating conversation until an enemy zergling scout runs up the ramp and proceeds to break up their chat and generally piss off most of the marines. But it's okay, because 2 of their bitches soon arrive, and 10 marines and 2 medics leave their ramp and start treking south. However, for unknown reasons, the small band of adventurers stop around that frightening Protoss temple and go back into their base.

At [Xe'l]Skittles's base, a Lair has finished and a hydra den is put up right afterwards. His intentions appear to be the anti-terran Lurkers. [Xe'l]Skittles's expansion has about 8 drones mining, and he has put up 3 sunkens for defense, along with about 16 zerglings.

SeigeCraft

KoreansEatDogs again gathers his units, and marches down to [Xe'l]Skittles's base. This time his forces include 17 marines, 2 firebats, 2 medics, and a mighty tank. The tank plants himself just outside of the reaches of the zerg creep, and the infantry stands nearby.

Pathetic!

[Xe'l]Skittles's has already begun morphing 3 Lurkers, and once they are done he brings them down to his expansion, and tries to make KoreansEatDogs run out of Comstat by attempting to bring in one lurker at a time. The first lurker burrows successfully but dies quickly after KoreansEatDogs sweeps the area with comstat. The next two lurkers don't even burrow successfully, and die before inflicting any damage at all.

[Xe'l]Skittles's hastily puts up a spire and a queen's nest, with guardians in his mind to get rid of KoreansEatDogs's seige. When the queen's nest finishes building, he morphs his Lair into a Hive. KoreansEatDogs has not been neglecting his tech or macro, and has floated a CC to his natural, as well as constructing a starport and control tower. However, his seige has not progressed well, and despite taking down all of [Xe'l]Skittles's sunkens, he has still not taken down his hatchery. This has given [Xe'l]Skittles valuable time to gather units, and he has hatched several hydras, lurkers, and zerglings.

Why wont my sister go away?

KoreansEatDogs's moves his army forward, and begins attacking [Xe'l]Skittles's hatchery. [Xe'l]Skittles's reacts to this and brings his army down his ramp. His hatchery is destroyed before [Xe'l]Skittles can save it, but by using some very careful micro, [Xe'l]Skittles is able to drive the few remaining troops of KoreansEatDogs back.

The creep thing was cool =]

Mutas and Guards

Three of [Xe'l]Skittles's lurkers commence to chase KoreansEatDogs's infantry back to his base, where they burrow, but quickly die to several of KoreansEatDogs's infantry, with a Science Vessel providing detection. [Xe'l]Skittles quickly rebuilds a hatchery at his natural. His Hive has finished by now, and he promptly morphs his Spire into a much Better Spire. [Xe'l]Skittles has also morphed 9 larva into mutas, and when his Greater Spire is nearly finished morphing, he moves them up to the left of KoreansEatDogs's main. By the time they reach their destination, the Spire finishes its upgrade, and he morphs 3 of his mutalisks into threatening guardians.

While [Xe'l]Skittles's guardians are morphing, he gathers his 6 mutalisks near his guardians, and moves them east, across KoreansEatDogs's base in search for innocent peons and buildings to attack. He starts nibbing at a few buildings, before he is forced to move elsewhere by several marines, medics, a goliath and science vessel. The Vessel gets quickly irradiates one of the mutalisks, but [Xe'l]Skittles, being alert, moves it away from the others. The 5 remaining mutalisks trek towards KoreansEatDogs's undefended natural, where they proceed to do what mutas do best - kill things that cant attack them =] And [Xe'l]Skittles's mutalisks do this well, and kill about 5 SCV's. However, they became a little too anxious, and ran into many marines and are quickly killed by gauss rifles before they can escape.

Meanwhile, [Xe'l]Skittles's Cocoons have morphed into Guardians, and they have begun attacking KoreansEatDogs's undefended supply depots. KoreansEatDogs notices this quickly though, and brings a Science Vessel along to do his dirty work. He proceeds to "irritate" one guardian, while the other one dies to a combination of stupidity and disease (it went into turret range and was finished by the irradiated guardians splash damage). The remaining guardian survives, and kills 2 supply depots before it is finished by a freshly made wraith.

Irritate > guards

Behold the power of marines ...

After these busy occurances, both players take time to expand. [Xe'l]Skittles's takes his mineral only, while KoreansEatDogs takes the 3 o'clock main. They also both organize their troops and prepare to assault their opponent. KoreansEatDogs has been amassing infantry from 3 barracks, and has about 18 marines, 3 firebats, and 8 medics, who are upgraded 1/2. He moves this force south, which meet up with [Xe'l]Skittles's smaller force consisting of 6 hydras and 2 lurkers. [Xe'l]Skittles quickly burrows his lurkers, but it is to no avail, as we all know what this amount of infantry can do to zerg. The lurkers are quickly taken down with the aid of comstat, and the hydras are easily tosted into zergling food.

[Xe'l]Skittles's expansion at his mineral only has just finished, just in time for KoreansEatDogs's infantry to arrive. The token lurker [Xe'l]Skittles's is quickly irradicated, and the expansion is toast within moments.

KoreansEatDogs's formidable force move towards [Xe'l]Skittles's natural to find about 4 sunkens hastily being morphed. KoreansEatDogs's is not imtimidated by this though, and gets his infantry all drugged up before they charge. They succeed in killing the sunkens, and a couple newly burrowed lurkers. KoreansEatDogs's then mow down all of [Xe'l]Skittles's drones at his natural before about 4 new lurkers arrive on the scene, and with the help of another fresh sunken colony, KoreansEatDogs's remaining force of 7 marines and 7 medics retreat. However the damage has been done, and [Xe'l]Skittles's economy is severely damaged.

My back hurts

During all of this, [Xe'l]Skittles brought up 2 mutalisks and a pair of scourge. The scourge quickly suicided into that pesky wraith, and allowed the mutalisks to morph into guardians unmolested. Those 2 guardians then proceed to kill several structures on the left side of KoreansEatDogs's base, while all the while KoreansEatDogs's was concentrating on his attack. However, once [Xe'l]Skittles's 2 guardians were noticed, they were quickly irradiated and scared off by charon missles with the range upgrade. KoreansEatDogs's economy is not as hurt though, because he was able to transfer many of his SCV's to his new expansion at the 3 o'clock main. The previous occurances cause [Xe'l]Skittles to blame imbalance, which is a very essential part of Starcraft, of course.

Yep definately imbalance =P

'Tis the end ...

KoreansEatDogs, didn't comment on that, since he was being his wonderfual social self during 1v1s, and had squelched everyone in the game prior to it starting. So he continues to macro like a whore, and constructs 2 starports, 2 barracks, and a factory at the 3 o clock main in addition to the 3 barracks, starport, and factory that he has at his main. With this many production units, he is able to quickly assimilate a large force of mixed infantry, scattered tanks, and a few valkyries to end the threat of mutas and guards. After building up for a minute, KoreansEatDogs moves this force to [Xe'l]Skittles's main to find a few guardians, a devourer, and some hydras. [Xe'l]Skittles quickly hatches some scourge, and using fancy micro, takes out all of KoreansEatDogs's valkyries and his lone Science Vessel. However, with all those production facilities, KoreansEatDogs is able to quickly replenish his forces and proceeds to march into [Xe'l]Skittles's natural unheeded. GG's are exchanged, and [Xe'l]Skittles, realizing that he no longer has a chance, conceeds the game and leaves.

I'm dizzy

Well played by both players, it was a fun game to watch =]

Lessons Learned

  • Z v T has to be executed almost perfectly to win
  • KoreansEatDogs's terran has improved a lot, because I thrashed him quite mercilessly Z v T twice. He played very well this game though, I was impressed
  • [Xe'l]Skittles had some really cool micro. I was very surprised when he survived the initial tank push.
  • Writing this BR was very time consuming, and i need Paintshop Pro ... or something better than a Bill Gates product.
Enjoy!! =]
