I-Ball Vs. (Drunk??) Pitt
The Map: Dark Temple
I-Ball starts with Toss at 12:00
-Pitt- starts with Zerg at 9:00
Introduction:
I logged onto B.Net Christmas Night looking for a game. There were a few people in the channel including RedNosedNewt. Newt said, "Hey Dref," and I said, "Hey". I asked him if he was looking for a game and he said, "Yeah, join Pitt/Pitt".
We found ourselves in the Dark Temple with 4 other people. Microman and -Yikes- were in the observer slots. Myself and Newt were in the players section with -Pitt- and I-Ball. -Pitt- kindly informed us that this was a 1vs1 and requested that we move down to the observer slots. We complied even though I was really craving a game.
-Pitt- was hoping for a quick game (Possibly because he had some drinking to do) and quickly started the game.
The Game:
The game begins with I-Ball doing a standard 2 gate build. He rallied his troops to his ramp and when he had some zealots at his choke, he began an assimilator and a cy core. Pitt's early build consisted of a Hatchery, a Spawning pool, and an extractor.
It was about this time that Microman, the crazy aussie with the kangaroo driven modem, started lagging like my grandma on an icy sidewalk. After having 5 players screaming obscenities at him for 2 minutes, he left. (He later got his revenge by beating me in an hour-long game on Dire Straits.)
The game continued and we observers began to realize that Pitt's build was anything but normal. Newt and I began to discuss the possibility that Pitt may have had a few pregame drinks. Shortly after his spawning pool completed, he had saved enough gas for a Lair and began to morph it into place. Soon after, he started morphing his hydra den. He still had NO troops!!
In the meantime, I-Ball has about 6 zealots standing around at his ramp (possibly playing some indian strip poker).
I-Ball finally decided to scout Pitt and saw his plans. In order to combat the imminent lurker threat, he started working on a forge and shortly thereafter, a robotics facility. When the forge finishes, he warped 2 cannons into place, one at his peon line and the other at his ramp.
Pitt had two overlords scouting I-Ball's cliff and he was disappointed when he saw the cannon warp in while his 4 lurkers were still morphing outside I-Ball's base. The cannon plus the 8 zealots is more than enough to secure I-Ball's ramp from the lurker threat.
At this point, Pitt casually comments, "So much for a short game," and it looks like he may be right. He can use his lurkers for a short time to contain I-Ball until I-Ball gets mobile detection and maybe get some expansions started, but it looks like his opportunity for using his lurkers offensively has passed.
Pitt does take the opportunity to expand to his natural. However, something strange begins to happen. Instead of burrowing his 4 lurkers at the choke leading to I-Ball's base, he moves them over to the south side of I-Ball's plateau where he has his 2 scouting overlords waiting. The sickening, sucking sound of troops being loaded into overlords comes through loud and clear over my brand new speaker / sub woofer system. "Oh my God," I exclaimed, "he's gonna drop!"
It takes a very short time for the Overlords to transfer Pitt's lurkers onto I-Ball's plateau. I-Ball's 1 cannon was constructed on the right hand side of his nexus. The lurkers move over to the left hand side behind the assimilator and burrowed out of cannon range. Unfortunately for I-Ball, his robotics facility still hasn't finished warping in and he has nothing to detect the burrowed lurkers.
The Lurkers proceed to chase away I-Ball's probes, tear down his assimilater, and tear down his nexus all without ever coming within range of I-Ball's cannon. I-Ball was completely helpless and all he could do was scream things like gay, OMGGAY, and OASIDUTO87E095&)%(*&# while the rest of us got a good laugh at his expense.
And what did Pitt think about all this? "I-Ball is my bitch, clap yo hands," he said.
I-Ball, knowing that his fate was sealed, left the game.
In Conclusion:
Sorry bout the lack of pictures guys. We were all too busy laughing and making fun of I-Ball and I forgot all about it until after the game.
Hope you all enjoyed reading about this game as much as I enjoyed watching it.
Regards,
Drefsab
