GUNSMOKE at SHOWDOWN
I walked into the dusty dimly lit bar called 1050+ and looked around the room seeing one man and the bartender. I sit down and ask for a drink and have a couple shots of whiskey and the cowboy who calls himself fearless sitting next to me challenges me to a gunfight. My mothers words echo in my head "Don't bring your guns to town son, leave your guns at home!" :) But despite her warnings I accept. We leave the bar, we walk ten paces and DRAW!....
I start on the bottom start location fearless is at top. He chose protoss so I have one advantage already.. I know his race. The showdown starts as I make conversation "This is a nice change of scene" he responds "Yeah everyone always plays temple, I'm sick of it". I couldn't agree more with him. I think without even scouting that he is going for some sort of drop on my cliff so I am planning to protect against that while I build up units and maybe reavers for a drop on him. My build order was 7 cowprobes, pylon, an assimilator, a few more probes and a gateway and then I begin to scout for him. When I get to his town he has done almost the same as I except his cybernetics core was finishing as my cowprobe finished the hot desert journey to his town."moo" Meanwhile I had 2 gateways building and just started my cybernetics. I left his town and came back and wasn't surprised when I found a robotics facility on the build..
I hurried to get a forge and some cowgoons, and waited for my own robotics facility to finish. I built cannons on either side of my minerals and on top of my overlooking cliff. when his reavers did come they took out 2 cannons and 2 cowgoons but when he tried to fly them over my cliff the shuttle and his one remaining reaver was destroyed. I had one reaver now and about 4 goons.. I got the cowgoon range upgrade and sent my shuttle with 2 goons to his cliff and dropped them there. They couldn't fire on to the probes yet... On they way there I saw over half a group of his cowgoons making their way to my town as fast as they could go, so I built a battery as many cowgoons as I could and with my reaver destroyed his attack force with no casualties.
The Turning point:
Upgrade complete! Great my cowgoons on top of his cliff began blasting down on his probes like yosimite sam and there was nothing he could do about it, so I moved my group of cowgoons about halfway to his town and started building some gunslinging dark templar. When 2 dts and 2 reavers and an observer were finished I brought them up right by his choke, where he still had cowgoons, a few dark templars, high temps, a reaver and cannons galore. Looked like my dark templars wouldn't help much but I knew I could take him on.. after all while my cowgoons were waiting for the dark templars/observers 2 of his shuttles carrying who knows what cargo were destroyed and my 2 cowgoons on the cliff were still raining down their wrath upon his probes. I went in with everything I had, dropping my reavers to the side and sending my 2 dts after his reaver. I was successful in destroying his attack force and I was thankful his high temps had no psi:) and I finished him off and the dusty cowboy accepted defeat and left without a word. YEEEEEHAAWWWW I won a game at showdown! I returned to nohunters and was happy to see my ladder went up to 1062.. Only 2 points away from my high:)
Some things I learned:
1. Not to do another report without pictures
2. lol not to do another western themed report
3. Remember the exact spelling of your enemies name so you can talk to him (oh btw this is my first report)
4. I'm getting pretty good at protoss vs. protoss
5. Cowgoons are really pretty good
6. How to kick a reaver droppers ass
