This is my first battle report so bear with me:
Players:
Team 1
Sir-Fartsalot (me) Green Terran-Bottom Right
intolerance[dk] (my ally) Blue Terran-Top Right
Team 2
Two guys w/ kewld00ds names that were basically character
gibberish. There was a white protoss (bottom left) and a Red Zerg (top left).
Early Game:
Everyone allies up and the lag is nonexistent. My partner and I are both Terran so we agree upon a strategy. I will rush to Valks and he will expand early and go for a mixture of Wraiths/Valks (2:1) afterwards. My build order is: 8th depot, 10th refinery, 11th rax, 15th factory. After the factory finishes I throw up an armory and 2 starports and save my resources. I don't make a single marine or tower, but I do get a comsat.
My partner expands on his 13th scv and tries to catch up with me in tech. In a few minutes my first 2 valks finish and I immediately send them to the Zerg's base for a friendly overlord hunt. He has a few hydras, 3 hatcheries and a spore colony that deter my attack. Two more valks finish and I scout the rest of his island and find two helpless overlords. By this time I have 6 valks, so I split them into 2 groups and patrol the two opponents islands. The toss sends like 3 corsairs out, but my valks eat them. Soon I take an expansion at the long island with the gas in the middle and min at the top and bottom. My partner has three expansions by this time. My patrolling valks miss a few overlords that sneak onto the 9 o clock island to begin a Zerg expansion. I kill the 2 overlords but lose a valk in the process. My partners wraiths arrive but so do more hydras in OLs so we retreat. While Red was expanding White also took the small 6 o clock island. My valks spot the developing pylon and the few dragoons, and two dropships of marines and medics arrive to dispatch them. I send over an SCV to begin construction on that island also.
At this point in the game we have the enemy well contained, but the Zerg is going to hydra drop soon. We patrol the borders of our islands. In a few minutes we have CCs building at every island except the 9 that the Zerg has. My army consists of a dozen valks, 6 SVs, and a couple dozen marines/medics. I decide to build some ghosts and 2 nukes just in case. I comsat the edge of the Zerg's island adjacent to my teammates and view about 10 overlords being boarded by Hydras. I attack-move my valks/SVs to the airspace between the islands and my partner sends his valks/wraiths. We pick off 8 of the OLs in midflight but he unloads two on his island. I promptly irradiate the hydras and the valks eat the overlords. So far so good. We prepare to drop on the zerg when White attacks the island at 6. Our air force arrives and holds off his carriers/corsairs substaining a few losses. While white attacks, red drops about 20 hydras on my island. My un prepared marines and medics are no match for his hydras, and about 10 remain and start razing my farms. My partner drops 3 loads of marines and cleans them up. I comsat white and notice he has no towers on the outskirts of his base. I drop 2 ghosts on his island and nuke his key buildings. Silly me, I forgot to research EMP, but I severely damage the buildings anyway and take out the few cannons. This clears the way for 2 dropships of my marines and is followed by my partner's from the east. We quickly raze his base and the game is now 2v1. The Zerg opponent was not idling while we demolished his teammate. He dropped about 10 OLs full of hydras on my teammate. We quickly transport our forces to his main, and save half of it. The Zerg player realizes his inevitable defeat and surrenders.
Conclusion:
This game demonstrated how Terrans dominate Island warfare if micro'd properly. Containment in most games is almost as good as assaulting their bases. |
