In the Beginning

Things started out well for my side. Templar was doing a normal zealot and cannon build while I and the other 3 zerg did a second hatchery at our expansions. Things were boring for awhile. A few zergling attacks went here and there while we all tested the others defenses. Then came the initail assualt on Templar. Both opponents sent about 12 lings each through the whole ordeal, and because Templar didn't block up his ramp for some reason, they ended up doing quite a bit of damage to his probe line and a few buildings. He eventually fought it off and rebuilt everything with no need of help, so I went along my merry way choosing a power-hydra build.

Zer0 Hour

Naien then launches a full scale lurker drop in Templars base. Templar had nothing back there to offer any resistance and was soon destroyed. He managed to cling to life with a few spread out pylons, and even killed the lurkers later on with his surviving zealots while Naien was distracted. I was not about to allow myself to die to these imputent mortals and had already begun massing 2/2 hydras on a huge scale.

The Turning Point

It was time for the mighty ][)ra(ula to reclaim his empire. I sent 3 control groups of hydras at 12:00. After smashing threw his frontline defenses, I charged up Naien's ramp and took out his spawning pool and hydra den as fast as I could.

Without and way of reinforcing his defenses, his drones and the whole base became shooting practice for my hordes. Bunny_Starfire sent half of his huge army to the aid of his wounded ally and stopped my weakened force. However, I already had 2 more groups killing Naien's expansion, and 3 more groups waiting eagerly jusy outside the view of the ramp. When Bunny_Starfires troops came down to save the expansion, I sandwiched them between my armies and took down Naien's base to boot. I then charged my 3/3 hydras who were now 6 legions strong at Bunny_Starfires base along with 2 ling squads and overlord support.

After a fierce battle, I made my way up the ramp and overpowered the defense he had erected at the last second. With a "GG" he left the game. Now I would have to hunt down Naien who was mysteriously still alive.

The Final Hours

The day of redemption was at had. My scouts showed me that Naien had taken BOTH island expansions and had powerful anti-ground defenses. He tried to get mutalisks as fast as he could in a last ditch effort to defeat me. I had already built some spore colonies and hydras at my 2 bases ahead of time, thinking this might happen. I also took the time to expand to the 3 natural expansions at all the starting points to full the final wave of my attack force. It consisted of 48 mutalisks, 24 sent at each island. After a huge brawl fought in the top left corner between my airforce and Naien's muta/spore colony force, I arose the victor. Naien surrendered with a "GG" shortly after while Templar sat stunned and laughed.

Gameplay notes

1. When Templar drew Protoss and knew we had 2 zerg enemies, he should have quickly blocked up his ramp with some zealots to stop a ling attack. This mistake caused his easy death when the lurker drop came.

2. By mid-game he did block his ramp, but neglected any defense back in his base. Another big boo-boo which almost cost us the game. One of the Zerg's favorite things to do his lurker/hydra drop inside your base. Watch out for it!

3. Both my enemies kind of slacked off troop building when they killed Templar. This enabled my fast strike force to overwhelm them. Never think you have it won just because you killed one opponenet. Always keep your eyes open and constantly be building troops. When you get the time, make sure you upgrade them too. My 3/3 hydras had a field day with my opponents 0/0 ones.

4. Bunny_Starfire did an excellent job defending his base with lings, lurkers, sunkens, and hydras. Unfortunately, they were all bunched up in his expansion, and that allowed me to get off quite a few pot shots at his frontline defenses which won the battle for me. If he had had his hydras up on the ramp firing at mine while I was tied up fighting the frontline, the battle would have ended differenetly. The high-ground advantage should be taken into consideration when attacking and defending at a ramp.

5. Always try to help your partner. Teamwork will beat and uncohesive team anyday. Only in very rare occasions, doesn't it work. Like this game :). The thing that saved me was the lack of troop build up at the enemy bases until I started my offensive.

Disclaimer

The above sidenotes were just a few gameplay tips and are not in anyway slander or dis's against the people I played with. They all did a superb job and should be commended. These are just a few observations about the game, intended to explain what happened, as well as offer idea's to other players.

Epilogue

This was an extremelly fun game for me to play. Why did I choose the title for this Battle Report? Well, shortly before this game, Naien and Bunny hammered us in a similar game on Temple. I left very quickly after Templar died when I was positive we were doomed. Naien then commented on how you should never give up till the fat lady sings. Well, the fat lady never sang in the second game :P
