BGH Strat of the Day (The Ghost Rush)

Welcome to my first installment of the "BGH Strat of the Day".

In this first part, we will focus on a newly patented strat that I like to call "The 36 ghost rush". This strat consists of a quick gas build, utilizing both of the vespian gas geysers at your base along with a quick tech up to Ghosts. By the time you finish your covert ops, your ghosts should be upgraded to 1/1 and you should have 6 barracks. The key is to start pumping those suckers like there's no tomorrow.

I will now demonstrate the effectiveness of this strategy in a 1vs1 game that I played on BGH with Hipster_Doofus.

The Game:

Hipster started at the top left position and I started at the top middle.

My build order started out with a depot, rax, refinery, and a factory. About this time, a protoss probe entered my base. He was scouting me!

I decided that this would be a good idea so I sent out an scv of my own. As my scv ran through the choke outside my natural expansion, the words, "your forces are under attack" came through my speaker. I looked up, oh no, I was cannoned in.

Not to be deterred from my build order, I gamely ignored the cannons and continued on with my strat. After my factory was completed, I built a starport, and then a science facility. I bumped my barrack count up to 6 and I built two ebays for weapons/armor upgrades for my lethal attack force. I also built 3 turrets, a bunker, and 2 marines in my mineral line to protect me from any cheese strats.

Next, I built my academy and my science facility. I also built a control tower add-on to my starport and started building dropships to get around those pesky cannons. When my academy was finished, I built a Comsat and started scanning for his base. I found him in the top left corner. He had 15 bajillion cannons at his choke, 3 gates, a cy core, a templar archives, and a robotics facility. Does this build order sound familiar to anyone?

I researched cloak, sight range, and lockdown and started pumping ghosts out of my 6 rax. When I had 36 ghosts, I loaded them into 4 dropships. As I took off for his base, my 4 dropships passed an enemy shuttle. I watched as two blurry objects unloaded into my base. Oh my God, it was the dreaded 15 minute 2 dark templar drop. I ignored them completely and kept my 36 ghosts on course for his base.

My scan was able to find a safe place to land and my assault force unloaded.

I was a little nervous because he had a dark archon and a dragoon for defense but surprisingly, my ghosts were able to mow them down quickly.

I then ran the ghosts into his probe line. As soon as his probes were destroyed I quickly destroyed the pylons that were powering his gateways. Next I started taking down buildings. I saw two more dragoons hovering in the background. I locked them down and then assasinated them.

With his defense mowed down, I killed all of his major buildings, gutting his entire base. Suddenly, the game froze, oh no, what happened?

Uh oh, he's definitely not a fan of the "36 ghost rush", or as it turned out in this game, the "36 ghost drop".

The Scores:

Hopefully, this strat will catch on and BGHers everywhere will begin to use it.

Happy Hunting! (Big Game that is)

Regards,
Drefsab
