The Challenge

Ok, last nite, I was pretty bored, so I asked out for some 1v1s. Then this guy, Axis-X, realizes I'm KraZiX, my old name. COOL ^_^. He has a decent ladder rating, 1350+ with like 5 losses. Not to shabby. So I challenge him to a match. I beat him before in a pvp, so he's happy to comply. So I make the game....

The War Room

K, so he enters the "War Room." DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!
.....So anyway...he says brb, "1 minute please." Of course have GOOD MANNER, he comes back in about 5 minutes. I busy myself laughing to see my brother lose a game once again, and to find that Jacksonville is winning (haha, broncos suck...terell davis rules...broncos suck). Anyway, so we begin the game!!

Black Temple FAQ

What is Black Temple?

Black Temple is the "balanced" version of lost temples. You know how it was annoying that if you were spawned at 2:00, lurkers could be dropped on your expansion ridge, and as a protoss, if you didn't have observers, you could do nothing about it? And also, how the 12:00 natural was ridiculously difficult to defend? And how about how it was stupid that you had to build a hatchery only at 2:00 and 12:00 at your choke to defend it. Also, it's ridiculous how the minerals at the 6:00 expand spot were so far away from the build site of the expansion, but at the 9:00 spot, it was just fine, all minerals placed well. Well, the map has been balanced so that all positions are the same. All plateaus can be hit by tanks from below, no expansions can be hit by lurkers from the ridge. The 12:00 expand spot is a mirror image of the 6:00 2nd natural. And the 9:00 ramp isn't ridiculously difficult to defend against a 2 hatch hydra rush as a protoss. Also, all minerals are equally placed from the expansion, at all spots. A balanced map shouldn't be positional, and shouldn't be played based on the starting position. So based on experience, the map has been balanced so it is no longer a positional map.

Let the Duel Begin!!!

KEKE. So the duel starts with me at 6:00. I am zerg. Yipee, they're the most fun ^_^, especially against protoss. So I go along with 12 hatch build order. 13 pool, 15 hatch, 21~23 hatch. When my two overlords get to his base, I find he has a forge up and running, 2 gateways, and has an assimilator with a cyber yet to be seen. My 2nd overlord went to his ramp to find 3 zealots. Not much to worry about from an early rush. However, I made my first mistake. I kept building lings when I already had more than enuf to stop his force. You either dedicate yourself to mass lings opening, or economy advantage opening. Mass lings are good to a certain extent in that if they didn't get attack upgrade early enuf, the moment they tech, you send mass lings up their ramp and they can't stop it. However, being as drunk as I was, I built lings when I saw the forge upgrading, and saw him getting cannons at his ramp. I got an extractor around 30, and got a hydra den. I built up like 14 hydras. Then, it wasn't time to go in...but I went in anyway. Stupid me. I sent my hydras and lings, about 12 lings and like 14 hydras in front of his natural. I saw with my overlord, now over his expansion ridge, that he was expanding. 2 gate expand with attack upgrades ^^. Definitely not the time to attack...but I was drunk, what can I say :(.

And Scipio Hits Axis Hard....

I set the rally of my 4 hatcheries to his base, and sent a drone to 9:00. I got an evolution chamber up, and started researching hydra attack. Another bad choice, as carapace is obviously the better decision against early attack upgrades when I'm going hydra/ling. I send in my overlord from my cliff forward, and go in. I go in with about 14 hydras and 12 lings. He has 2 cannons, about 9 attack upgraded zealots, with leg enhancements, and not much else. The game's over I thought. However, he came in with templar, and I found that my econ was ridiculously bad...I couldn't constantly pump hydras like I normally could with this build order.

And When the Dust Clears....

He then came in with dts and the templar. I darted in and out of his storm, no problem. I also got free shots at his templars with my hydras, killing about 2. However, pound for pound, his troops were beating me so I retreated. I got more hydras, still not realizing that I didn't have enough drones. I built some lings while I was at it to act as walls for my hydras. I got about 24 hydras, missile attack almost done, and went in again. I also expanded to 9:00 at this point, and built a lair. I continued to dart in and out of storms, but he had armor upgrades completed. BAHHHH. Being as stupid as I was, I didn't retreat to wait for missile upgrades. I just kept sending wave after wave of hydras, microing them. I had finally cleared his troops, ya!!! I had a chance to take out his nexus at this point but...being drunk, I didn't realize this :( I killed maybe half the probes and brought the nexus shielding down, but he came down with dts and templar. I didn't move my overlord forward from the choke point in front of his expansion site, so I had to retreat once again...I finally realized that I had no drones whatsoever. So I built a ton of drones at this point. However, I should have built them much earlier...he came in with all his troops and pushed my hydra barricade, now 24 hydras strong, away from his 2nd natural. If I had the economy, I would normally get a spire right now, and play control, forcing him to get goons, in which case I could win by just overpowering him. However, I didn't have the economy...so I didn't get the mutas. Yay! Because I built drones now instead of before, I stopped on the hydra production, and it allowed him to snag his 2nd natural. I moved my barricade to the map center, and got overlord drops. I forgot to change my rallies though, and ended up giving him 12~ free hydra kills. DANGIT!!

And Now the Drop...

Oh well, I picked up 12 hydras in my overlords and dropped them in his main. I managed to kill...well...nothing. I shoulda at least killed his forge or templars, but I saw his zealots, and overreacted. He had like 6 zealots coming up. STUPID ME. I killed the zealots with ease, and then darted out of his storm with ease. But I had sent all my overlords back. This might as well cost me the game. He killed my entire force with a few dts. However, I sent all my hydras to his front, finding it lightly defend with...well...nothing. I managed to kill the nexus and gateway there. I then retreated my troops. With my overlord over his first expansion ridge, I spotted a shuttle heading to top left. I guess he's expanding I assumed. And he sure was. I sent my overlord there to find a fully fledged expansion, and that he was just sending probes there. He build cannons in the center of the island, but that didn't defend his probes from hydras...I picked up 4 hydras in my overlord and told them to "unload all" next to his probes, out of range of the cannons.

Drama Time: This Decided the Game

However, at this point, he attacked my 9:00 expand with a reaver drop. I had 2 hatcheries there, and like 8 drones. I quickly ran them away, but he manually targetted them and managed to kill nearly all of them. I had nothing there, and like barely 30 hydras in the center. Damn I'm doing bad. I sent like 8 to defend against it, figuring I could stop it with some micro. I built 6 hydras from the 2 hatcheries that I had ignorantly not used before. He took my hatchery closest to the minerals down to 79 hp...OMG, I was about to lose my expand. BUT...my hydras arrive on the scene. He didn't manually aim at my hatchery as I feared. I killed the 2 reavers with very little hp left on my hatchery. I quickly erected a sunken next to my hatchery to prevent such future attacks, and left 4 hydras to patrol the area to prevent any shuttles from coming in. Speaking of 4 hydras, I looked at top left to realize that my overlord was just standing...err...floating there. I told it to unload, but quickly realized it was already unloaded. I saw the fog of war, and the 2 cannons on fire...STUPID HYDRAS ATTACKED THE CANNONS!!! AHHHHHHH. This was driving me insane. I ran out of minerals at my main, and had not taken the care to expand to my 2nd natural. I expanded to the natural at 9:00. There was very little action in the center. I quickly erected an ultralisk den, although I should have erected a spire. After all, guardian/hydra does own...But, once again, too drunk to realize I had well enough cash at this point. I also realize I hadn't been building any hydras during this time. I built 2 ultralisks, cus I was SHORT ON MINERALS. Oh my god, not building drones before getting hydras really screwed me over. I got ling upgrades and sent my desperation attack in consisting of 24 hydras, some ultralisks, and some zerglings. However, he promptly beat it down with his 99999 templars and his 2 dragoons. Also, as the attack ended, I realized that all the drones that I had transfered to the 9:00 were GONE. There were two reavers sitting there laughing. OMG. I wish my speakers worked.

The End Game

Well, it was all downhill from there as you could imagine. He tried expanding to the 2:00 2nd natural, but I saw it with an overlord, and sent 12 lings there to promptly destroy it. I also should have expanded to the bottom right island. But..I didn't. SOOOOOO....he promptly attacks my main base with 12 dragoons, and literally like 12 templar, and 2 reavers. GOD I WISH I HAD GONE MUTA. Oh my GOD a surprise guard attack would have beat him down. So anyway, I really put myself down for all the thing I hadn't done. The game was over. I said "HUK YOU WHORE" I just left. His force could not longer be stopped in due course.

What I Did Wrong ( not lessons learned because I already knew all this...just didn't execute :( Actually, there was one lesson learned... )

• Built lings instead of drones when I knew he couldn't make any early game offensive threats.
• Didn't build drones before going hydras.
• Didn't upgrade carapace when he went early attack upgrades, or didn't upgrade it first.
• I didn't build sunkens at 9:00 knowing he had shuttles and would get reavers
• Didn't expand to bottom right island when I had the chance
• Did not take it to the air to take out the temp when his anti-air was weak.
• Did not get guards, despite the fact that they're so useful late game.
• Don't play major games drunk...it don't help.
• Lara in a thong...MMM....
