I didn't have much of anything else to do. I had gotten home from a crappy day of school a couple hours before I wandered on to battle.net and I wasn't in a very good mood. So after chatting for a few minutes, I decided to play my first FFA with this name. I created it on lost temple and decided that I wouldn't make it ladder, after all, I'm not such a good player and I really don't like losses. But then again, who does?
2 people wandered into the game, can't remember their names, but I do remember one of them was an average player and the other had a record with about 70 losses and less than half that many wins. So, as usual, I chose my trusty Khalai from Auir and we started the game with a round of gl's. Right before the game started, I noticed that my opponents had both chosen Protoss, hmm... this might be interesting.
I started with my normal build on Temple, going quick dragoons right before expanding to my natural with High Templar and Reavers. I had scouted from my position at 12:00 with the probe who had started warping in my first Gateway, and noticed that Brown Protoss was going for a turtle and tech strategy, as he had already constructed a forge and had a cannon or two warping in at his ramp. My trusty scout journeyed across the map from 3:00 to 9:00 where I spotted purple, who also seemed to be going for quick Dragoons.
I prepared for an attack from purple and it was as I though. He attacked my with about 8 Dragoons but I was ready with a quick Psi Storm into a clump of them and then followed up when I brought forward 2 Zealots and 2 Dragoons of my own while he was busy with the lone cannon I had set up. The first victory belonged to my unless purple had attacked brown which I thought was high unlikely.
I continued teching up the tree but found my natural overrun by about 12 zealots and they were brown. Hmm... I thought. I took a Shuttle with a Probe to the island at the top and warped in a nexus and some pylons w/ cannons as fast as I could with a High Templar for support. I was raking in the cash pretty good.
I sent out a group of 8 Zealots, 4 Dragoons, 2 High Templar, and a Reaver filled Shuttle to clear up my natural and was successful, although with heavy losses because brown had fortified it will with a matrix of cannons. I finally took them out and started mining from that spot was well. It had cost me quite a few resources but it was worth the extra supply.
I sent out a probe to check out what was going on with my neighbors. I noticed that purple had taken his natural and secondary natural and had Dragoons and Zealots. Brown was hoarding a lot of Zealots, about forty from a quick estimate and I decided it was time for me to go take some of them out. I loaded up a shuttle with 3 High templar all with full energy. I landed them on the small cliff just to the left of their natural and I Psi Stormed once, and went in quickly with an observer and most of the Zealots were gone. That puzzled me because I knew 1 Psi Storm could not kill that many Zealots.
"How do you like them apples?" Brown asked me. "Don't you just love recall."
I started swearing. He had recalled them away with an Arbiter right out from under my nose. I sweared some more.
I merged some High Templar into Archons and decided to make a run into brown. I had 5 Archons, a full group of Dragoons, and a full group of Zealots, along with my traditional Psi Storm Crew. I gathered outside of his base and attacked.
This was one of the Ugliest battles that I have ever been in. For me and purple at least. I attacked quickly sending them all in at once, and then several stasis fields ripped off, immobilizing over half of my group. Purple then came in, with about 40 Dragoons and rushed past me to attack brown. He also got stasised and then our remaining troops got Psi Stormed by browns Templar and then decimated by his Zealots. Then he surrounded our remaining troops and when they were unstasised he Psi Stormed them and then finished them off.
It was at that point that purple offered me a truce. I wasn't in any point to argue for I was getting just as much of an ass whooping that he was getting.
So he turtled up his bases a little more and I did the same. After about 10 minutes we both had sizeable carrier forces. I had approximately 14 carriers and he had around 10.
"Ready to go?"
"Let's rock." I said.
We started out at the bottom of purples base and headed around the map, destroying all in our path. We took out an expansion at 6:00 natural, the lower island, 3:00 natural, and finally took out brown's main base. This is the part where I had the most fun. It was awesome to see that many carriers streaming into a base and destroying all in their path. At one point, brown even Psi Stormed about 12 of his own dragoons in the confusion. I started laughing at the point. But we razed the rest of his base and the game was over. Damn that guy put up a hell of a fight. GG to all who were there.
**Lessons Learned**
-All Protoss FFA's can get pretty gruesome at times.
-Stasis and Psi Storm are an extremely bitch ass combonation.
-Carriers rule for games where Turtle and Tech in accepted.
-The one reason that brown was extremely tough, was because of his research. He had hallucinations, psi storm, range for goons, all his ground and air attacks and armor. I think he probably researched the whole of the tech tree.
-Even 2v1 is sometimes hard, even when you are part of the 2.
-Being friendly is key. Even though I bascially got my ass whooped in that game, the politeness of the other players makes me want to play with them again.
Arrivaderci All.
