d22-Soso VS Greased!
PGL Season 3: Round 2

During PGL Season 3 I competed under the name Greased! and managed ro rank 57 and move into the 2nd round of play for a matchup against d22-soso. Even though this may be nearly a year old vanilla SC scripture, and I'm not that great of a writer, I at least want to make my report sound more interesting than those miserable PGL commentators.

Map: Lost Temple
Races: Soso-Zerg Greased!-Terran
Location: Soso-8:00 Greased!6:00

I started off the game knowing that I'd have to win in the containment game if I wanted to stand any chance at all to defeat my enemy. However I was scared to back off of my normal build against Zerg, and I started into my triple rax to fast starport order, for mass marines and later vessels. Upon finishing my first supply depot, I sent my first scv out to scout the Temple. Unfortunately I didn't discover Soso until I ran into his expansion at 9:00 which was barricaded by 3 sunkens. Although this seemed to be a bad thing, I decided to try one of my favorite anti-powerer tactics.

Meanwhile at Sosowacs' main base, a lair had just finished building, and he made his move towards a fast spire and the old muta powering technique which was quite popular in the glory days. However, he had no idea that an invading force of one barracks had landed on the outer edge horizontally across from his lair. I had sacrificed my 3rd barracks to try and get an early "island drop" suprise on him.
A couple minutes later at my choke point, a group of zerglings attempted to bum rush my base but were held off by my somewhat meager force of marines, and forced to retreat. I saw this has the oppotune time to launch an assault on both fronts, so I took my 6 completed marines and went straight for the crotch of his main where he had absolutely nothing defending his drones. I managed to kill a few drones before they ran off, but I was more concerned with the nearly completed spire that was under way. The second I started attacking it, he immediately cancelled building so I focused in on his spawning pool. While he was busy with that I attempted to bring my main base fleet of marines in for a bunker in. I successfully managed to pull it off without any resistance, although this tactic may have had a drastic counter-effect {as you will see later on}. Back in Sosowacs' base a group of 8 zerglings and the original drones returned to retake his main.

I felt that I had the game in my hand at this point,
so I added another factory to the one that I had already built, instead of racing for vessels. I started pumping out tanks, and also made a starport to drop his expansion. After about 5 minutes I had a few tanks slowly taking out his sunkens, and I had my dropship full of two tanks set up on his ledge. As I setup my tanks and fired upon his expansion, my heart abruptly dropped. I then realized that my ignorance was about to cost me any hopes of winning this game. I had not even thought about him rebuilding that damn spire! Not for a second! After firing off approximately 3 shots a piece, my tanks were absolutely shredded by a huge mass of mutalisks, that almost equaled the amount of marines I had.

From there Soso did not even have to bother with my pathetic bunker-in, as he tore through my naked main and newly created expansion. I attempted to run my marines towards my base, and soon a large group of zerglings and a few hydras began to trash my tanks and empty bunkers, leaving nothing but a faded sense of pride in the rubble. My marines stormed back towards the base as fast as they could, but they killed only a handful of mutalisks before they fell to the ground. And with those marines died also my hopes of advancing to the 3rd round. Oh well, who cares, good game...
