Map - Dire Straights

This is my first br, so be nice to it. It was a cool game, but I forgot to take screen shots.

I was terran in the lower right starting place, and he was protoss in the bottom left

I knew the map fairly well at that time, so I was going for a drop. I used the following build order - 8-depot, 10 - extractor, 12-13 rax, 15 factory, and 16 acadamy. This way I had detection all set up and was ready for a drop 8 or so minutes into the game. I was hoping to get some marines on drugs by the end of the 10 minute mark, so I started researching stim early. I started scouting with my first wraith and started scouting, then built another starport. I built a cc on my island when my wraith found his base. I floated casually around to the probes and started shooting little lasers at them. He sent a couple dragoons to kill my wraith, but to his demise the little dudes flashing their lights in my control tower finished researching cloak, so the wraith lived for a while longer. I flew around his base to see how he was faring. He 2 gateways, about half a dozen zealots and 2 dragoons. One forge was spinning away makin something, while another one was warping in. His cybernetics core was doing the little spinny dealy, which was probably I then flew right into a little thing of cannons that made short work of me. I started building scv's out of that little spot outside my base where that cc flew.

Now I started to build a couple of dropships, hoping to catch him without much defense. I brought in 2 tanks and started researching spider mines, seige mode already finished. I had about 6 marines, 2 medics and no firebats, so the infantry wasn't going to be my forte in this drop. The cc finished just before my dropships, and I sent it floating to the island junst north west of my base. The little scv that just built that gatherer-factory started building another one, now knowing his lot in life - absolutely nothing other than bulidng stuff that just floats away from him.

Finally the dropships finished and I loaded them up with 2 tanks, 1 vulture, 4 marines and 2 medics. I didn't expect this attack to go far, but I'm a dreamer, what do you expect? I unloaded my own little army so they could claim their own little peice of John's base. Well, it worked better then I expected. My spider mines finished upgrading as my tanks started setting up, so it shouldn't have been much of a problem. I set up the precious little explosives a few matrixs away from the tanks. I set the marines in front and the medics on either side. Now it's time for seige mody, baby!

My 1-1 marines and my 0-1 tanx started blasting away at his cannon. His meager resistance force dared to oppose me. 4 of the zealots were quickly dispatched by my spider mines, which put the stakes in my favor. I killed his 4 dragoons and 2 zealots with the loss of my vulture and 1 marine, which was fine with me. My attack force is now down to 3 marines, 2 medics and 2 tanks.

Then came the 2 things I didn't expect. I hear that sound that no infantry owner wants to hear...you know, that "wang" sound then one of your marines fall apart? It was horrible! Blood everywhere! I stim the remaining 2 marines and sweeped the place. One of my brave marines is slaughtered, but I run the other one away. The stupid dt walked into range of the tanks and was dispatched, but the splash damage killed my marine too. Well, I thought this worked pretty well, and I blew up the remaining cannon. Then comes the other thing that ruined my day- 1 scout. He started shooting one of the tanks, I just hear the little dude inside's voice saying, "What's that? Ah crap! Mommy!!!!"

Well, I sent my 2 wraiths over there and they took care of the scout. He didn't even have a chance to shoot back =) Gotta love that cloaking field. Well, that stupid noble protoss guy got one last shot off at my tank, and it blew up. This freaked the crap out of me, but I guess I was ok with it. I'd totally forgotten about teching at this point, but remedied this problem by getting that little pointless cc builder to start my science facility. I lifted off the second cc and started floating to the upper right; I was in desperate need of vespene. I started pumping the little mineral dudes out of my Next thing I know my other tank is in the red. Ah crap, another dt. Well, I'm screwed now. I did cue up more m & m and a couple of bats before dropping him, as well as 2 more tanx and another vulture. I'd kept the wraith production up as well as I could, but I was having problems seeing I was dang low in the vespene department.

I filled up the same dropships, hoping that this would have a different result. They contained almost the same amount as the first time. I moved into position at the top of his base this time, fearing that he'd prepared against a repeat of last times...incident. I starded my first sv out of one of my starports, but I guess that sweeping would have to do for me this attack also. I set up about the same system as the first attack, but this time went back and picked up some more infantry, 4 marines, 2 bats, and 2 more medics. They got there in time before he noticed my little "recon" post. The other ship picked up an scv and he started construction of a turret.

I figured it was now or never, and my turret was almost done. I put my tanks in seige mode and they started blasting away at some of his tech buildings, the observatory and templar archives. Resistance was minimal at first, but then a reaver made his way onto the scene. Ah crap, if there was one thing I didn't want it was to lose all my infantry. I loaded up my guys into the dropships, hoping that my tanx and scv could take care of the little dude. Well, now he flew in with SCOUTS!

They were 2-1, and that really sucked for me. They started shooting those infernal blue little peices of CRAP that blew up 1 of my dropships. I was down to 1 medic, 2 bats, 3 marines, and a vulture. Man, that sucked. I went back to my base hoping to have the marines all ready to hit him again right in the groin area of his base - the probe chain.

I killed the scouts and the tanx took care of the reaver, only taking one scarab up the keister, which was quickly remedied by my scv. My tanx were now 2-1 and my infantry units were 2-2. The second upgrade finished upgrading when my guys were in their dropships. Sucky timing, eh? So, I had a little post set up consisting of light infantry, very little heavy metal, an scv and a dropship. I sent over my wraiths over for air support. He started building some cannons out of reach of my arclite cannons (or whatever they're called). The good news is that I'd killed his observatory and templar archives, so I didn't need to worry.

As my wraiths got to the little post my cc landed in the top right. I started training the inaugural scv, and he built me my extractor, which is what I needed most at the moment. I started adding on a physics lab to my science facility at this point. I didn't do it earlier because I knew I didn't have the vespene.

I sent the next wraith out of my starport up scouting for his expansions. I checked all the little islands, then continued on to the top left. I found more than I bargained for and ran straight into a whole buttload of cannons. At the same time John sent his first carrier with 4 interceptors to attack my recon post. Although it did little to no damage, it got my marines all flustered up. They were kind of mad because a pansee interceptor started pushing around their buddy, so they decided to go try and kill it. They ran straight into a reaver, and left my once mighty recon post with 1 tower for air support. I tried to remedy this by building another, but the 4 interceptors killed the first tower than my scv. The carrier made short work of the uncompleted tower and the rest of my non-air attacking units. I tried to get my wraiths in on the action, but the carrier was surrounded by cannons. I flew away with the wraiths and dropship, hoping not to lose them too.

Well, I figured it was time to finish him off. I started 2 bc's and put an scv in a dropship and moved him to the top right island. Once he landed he proceeded to bulid a factory and starport. The factory built a couple tanx and started pummeling his cannons, as the 2 wraiths and the lone sv stood watch. Right now I had bc's 3 and 4 coming in, as well as yamato research completed.

Well, this br is getting rather lengthly, but at any rate I blew his expansion to smitherines. He sent up 2 carriers to take care of the wraiths, but I cloaked and killed his observer, then pulled my wraiths out for a quick emp shockwave. The carriers now deprived of sheild priviledges I sent up 4 more wraiths from my base. Wraiths - 1 Carriers - 0. That's a final score =)

I yamatoed what was left of his cannons then dropped him with all I had, only scv's excluded. His base started leaking that blue stuff and victory was mine. I kept on building units, just in case. His expansion was all gone now. I sent out my newly acquired wraiths to check for other expansions.

His main was in ruins, and his premiere expansion was now dead. I was a happy man =) Unfortunately, my 2 new wraiths had bad news. 2 fledgling expansion with scout back, as well as a dark archon. He had finished construction of a replacement forge and started the cannon building. He sent his dark archon into his shuttle and caught one of my expansion workers off guard, drawing him to the dark side.

He started construction of a cc on the same island that was heavily defended. I thought I'd just walk in there and take care of it. 4 dropships full of marines went to the island. 1 fell victim to cannon fire, and the contents of the other three found themselves the target of a nasty spell by the Dark Archon. You know the one. I found my infantry worthless, and the tank was blown apart by a pair of dragoons. Most of my marines were dead when the spell wore off. The remnants of the band were slaughtered by 1 reaver and an undetermined amount of dt. Well that sucked, almost all of my land forces were dead. I took the battle to the air. I started shooting down probes in his other, poorly defended expansion. I dropped a few marines on there, and it was dead soon. It had nothing, just probes and a nexus, so it was a small victory. I started to yamato the cannons at his better expansion. I had the wraiths surrounding my 6 bc's, just in case one fell to the power of a dark archon. Well, it mind controlled and the bc was shot down quickly by my wraiths. Stupid traitor!

Well, after a prolonged battle, involving marines on his sides, I brought him down with a couple of nukes. It was so beautiful =) It was a great game.

Lessons learned -

1. Watch out, dark templar and archons are painful

2. If you're attacking, make sure you continue building units

3. Always check for expansions, catch em soon or they could be more trouble than you think

4. Never send infantry against reavers, it really sucks

Good Night, everybody
