VeNoM~Sage Protoss 6:00
~V~Admission Protoss 9:00
This is my second ladder game so far. I won my first, which was also toss vs toss. I'm not 100% sure about this guy's name, but he had a record of melee around 115/65 so I have to resspect his ability from the start. We both chose toss at the last second, I usually like to go toss against random, which was probably his throught too. PvP is one of my best machups. Before this game I joined a 1300+ game with my 1024 rating and the korean guy said "kakakakakaka" and booted me. I joined a 1100+ game and got booted. That's right. They're all SCARED I say. SCARED.
Early Game
I start with my usual PvP build which is quick ranged Dragoon rush. Here is my build:
-8 Pylon
-10 Gateway
-11 Assimilator
-13 Pylon
-17 (or around there) Core
Then I jump to goon range, get a second gate and scout him. My probe makes a quick run through his base. He's got 2 Gateways, and a Zealot. No gas, no core, no forge. Looks like he might try rushing me. Zealots with Goons on the hill totally owns pure Zealots coming up the ramp, even when outnumbered, no worries here. About the time I have 5 Goons I start a Robotics Facility. I like going Robo tech rather than Templar versus a toss because if they go with DTs you have early mobility and can't be contained, plus Reavers rip up Zealots. I get my Observatory and Support bay at the same time. My Gates always make goons, my nexus always makes probes (as best I can). I take 2 Zealots and 6 Dragoons and attack him. I meet up with about 12 or so Zealots, lets just say it was enough to stop me. I'm not good with Micro, I tried it but I'm just not good at it yet. If I was I probably would've won the game right there due to the Dragoon's range and speed advantage.
Mid Game
So I reatreat the 4 Goons I have left back home. He tries an assault but backs off.I have a shuttle and an observer, with a Reaver on the way. I scout his base with the obs. 3 Gates, a forge, a cannon by the nexus. That's all I see. I drop a Reaver and a Dragoon out of the Cannon's range and shoot up about 90% of his Probes before his Zealots come. I pull the Reaver/shuttle trick as best possible in 1.05, and kill a few Zealots, but this micro is costing me too much at the best as far as money piling up. He's hurt bad, I did my damage so I back off. I expand to the lower right island and my natural, and add two Gateways. My attack upgrade is done, and I start shields. I attempt a drop with 2 Reavers and 2 Goons, but he's ready for this one and I retreat the force for later use. No need to lose units if you don't have to. I'm macroing pretty well at this point, 6 Gates and 2 Expansions, with 1/0/1 guys. I send a Zealot to 12:00 to patrol the start positions and stop expansion. Jackpot. A warping nexus defended by 8 Zealots and a cannons. Easy bate for my goon army. I send about 20 Goons and raze the thing.
Late Game
That scouting Zealot must be carrying a rabbit's foot because he finds another lightly defended expansion at 3:00. My goons army takes that out too. My observer that I've had over his base from the start reveals he hasn't taken his natural. So he's hurting for money seriously. My plan is to attack from the front with 24 goons while dropping 2 Reavers on him a few seconds later. These kind of pincher one-two attacks hurt like a monkey wrench to the balls. He takes a bite out of my attack but not much. He frantically warps in some cannons but my Reavers killed just about all his probes. He leaves without a 'gg'. Oh well, 'gg' doesn't raise my ladder score any higher than a non 'gg'.
Lessons Learned
-I need to learn Micro, it will help immensly to my game.
-Reaver drops are great when the opponent is unprepared.
-Monkey Wrenches to the balls hurt.
-Saying 'gg' makes you look so much more honorable. At least he didn't disc me.
-Never let an undefended expansion sneak by, patrol the starts with a cheap unit...who knows, maybe he'll have a rabbit's foot like my Zealot did.
