Map: Plains of Snow
Res: High
Grunt264: Orcs, chosen
Farley: Orcs, chosen
Starting Spots:
Grunt264 - Mid Left
Farley - Bottom Right
I met Farley about a day ago while I was trying to set up a 2v2 on pos. Farley joined right away and quickly asked "Are you good?" I replied with "Lets hope so". After exhausting that topic we sat in silence and waited for more players. A few minutes later still no one had joined my game. Deciding to break the silence I asked him if he was good. He told me he had never lost a 1v1. So I asked him for a game and said "Maybe I'll learn something;)."
The game was an easy win, I prevented all of his expansion attempts while I expanded all over the map. I then ran over his main with ogre mages and dks.
The next day I am setting up a 1v1 PoS game, I hadn't been waiting long when Farley joined my game. He told me that he had been looking all over for me, and that he wanted a rematch. I quickly agreed and off we went. (The starting stats are at the top)
I set my peon to building my great hall and started thinking about what I was going to do. The sound of "Work complete!" shattered my chain of thought, forgot that halls build as fast as farms now in the beginning.;)
As soon as my farm was completed I started cranking out peons. My build went something like this: farm, farm, barracks, smith, cranking peons until there was 8 on gold and cranking some more until there were about 5 on lumber. Upon the completion of my barracks I immediately trained a grunt. My smith was finished soon after and I started upgrading weapons.
My first grunt was set to scouting duty. He searched the map counter clockwise and my enemy was found in the second to last place I looked. My grunt (by then level 3 because I followed up weapons upgrade with shield upgrade) observed three guard towers and a few level 1 grunts standing behind them. With one last "zugzug" he was shot down by the trio of towers. Soon after I was scouted by a level 1 grunt who passed right through my peon line and decided to keep moving. (I didn't wall in because…. well I didn't really feel like it.)
I started my second barracks when my grunts had reached level 4 and I also started stronghold upgrade at about that time. Money had piled up while the stronghold was upgrading so I produced four more grunts and began my second shield upgrade. When the stronghold had completed I took a peon off lumber to build an ogre mound and I once again began peon production and added about 4 more lumber.
With a cry of "I'm not ready!" my first ogre charged into the enemy base to discover not much had changed except that there were two more towers and the grunts were level 4. The ogre never returned from his scouting mission…:( I also sent troops to every gold mine to prevent any expansion attempts.
I sent a lumber peon to expand to the top left when my mine was at 10k. I also added a third barracks and an alchemist to my main, soon followed by a lumber mill. I cranked ogres from three barracks until my mine blew up. I sent about half my mining force to the bottom left to start another expansion and left the other half for lumber duty.
At about this time I noticed my scout covering the mid-right mine was missing. I sent about 15 ogres over to see what happened. I easily smashed about 9 level 4 ogres of his and his hopes of putting a great hall there. I left one of my ogres behind to watch for more expansion attempts. During this I upgraded to fortress. I took 4 peons off lumber and assigned one to build an altar of storms and the other three to build temples of the damned.
When my four buildings were completed I started research on ogre mages and death and decay. Also the training of two death knights were started. Two more death knights were trained while I was waiting for my blood lust upgrade.
Now Farley decided to try and expand in the exact same spot. He also thought bloodlust was necessary to kill one half-dead ogre. Oh well, I rallied my whole army outside of his base. (which consisted of a lot of ogres and 4 dks) I sent four lusted ogres up to deal with his expansion. They easily beat up his 7 ogres standing guard because his weren't lusted, and then razed his expansion. Farley said that he had no money and I told him that that was the point. I proceeded to raze his towers with death and decay (just like last game) and mopped up his main with 30+ lusted ogres.
How'd ya like my first br?
I realize this wasn't the best game to report but I just wanted to try my hand at writing BRs.
Now for….
Lessons
1. Its not the race that wins games…it's the gold, I could have easily done the same thing with humans.
2. Stop your opponent from getting a 2nd mine and the game is yours.
3. Don't keep trying to expand in the same exact spot.
4. Be aggressive, Farley didn't attack me once. How can you win a game if you sit behind towers and play Sim City WC style?
