It was a 3on3 pubbie on Valley of Re, but I lost a one of my allies on the way in. My remaining ally and I chatted it up some with the other team but decided to play it out. We figured that our best bet was high cannons and tanks. I was Protoss and he was terran. Our opponents were 2 terrans and 1 protoss.
I streaked to shuttle as fast as possible with minimal defense and units. I was prepared to conceede my main and escape to high ground. My partner floated a couple factories. As I set up some cannons, near the protoss enemy, I get 3on1’d. They did not know that they were about to be rained down upon from above. I gathered minerals until the last minute while they broke through my base defense and token zealots. I then shuttled all of my probes to high ground. During the exchange I warped a couple more cannons near the protoss enemy’s gas, while my partner seiged his nexus. I was chased from the valley but we had basically taken the protoss out of the game, sort of. He never expanded or rebuilt his nexus so apparently he did not have enough rock. I then proceeded to try and cannon the terran. Really not a good call, but it allowed me time to tech to carriers as I strip-mined a couple of the corner spots.
The terran enemy first focused on razing my cannons off of their gas geysers. Then the game turned in their favor. They started nuking my partner and ended up taking him almost completely out with just a floating barracks and floating factory. He still had a few tanks on high ground. Then they focused on me. By this time, I was mining from three of the corners and had started to mass carriers with double cyber upgrades. I got nuked a couple of times as one of my bases fell; luckily it was not the one where I had the air tech. Then they hit my next base, again not where I had my air tech. I now have 10 3/2/1 carriers with about 3-4 observers. To this point, there has been no hint of me going air it really just looked like I was barely haning on, which I was, but I had one last card to play.
I sent my carriers out. As I start to lay into one of the terrans, I get attacked at my last base by all 3 enemies. Apparently the protoss had a shuttle left over with a few zealots. I continued my carrier sweep through the valley hoping they might back off my last base. No such luck. I sent probes scattering in all direction trying to get one out. I had less than 400 minerals. I hoped I could hide a few pylons in odd places. It worked for awhile at least.
My carriers were being attacked by wraiths, but I had more than enough observers to handle it. Apparently the surprise of my air caught the terran enemies off guard as they did not have lock down, goliaths, or sufficient marines to take out my carriers. I completely swept one half of the map, and start working on the other half when I get the under attack message. They had found one of my pylons, and it was the damn protoss with his shuttled zealots. I guess he had nothing else to do while the terrans had their hands full running for their lives. I told my terran ally to go protect my last pylon. He had 3 tanks and 2 floating buildings. I have one pylon and 10 carriers with 4 observers. He commented about how improbable it was that we are both still in the game, and winning, when we only had 3 buildings between us.
The enemies must have figured out that I didn’t have any type of base. I had one pylon hiding between some platforms in the lower left corner. The protoss enemy found it but was repelled by tank fire. However, the jig was up. I thought about going back to protect it, but my fleet was too far away. I continued my sweep hoping for just a little more luck and a little more time. A few token terran wraiths and zealots showed up to kill the tanks and my last pylon. I was really tearing stuff up and it was only a matter of time before I killed everything. Unfortunately, the shot clock got me. Interceptors were flying everywhere, as I razed building after floating building in the terran ghost towns of my enemies. I managed to type in a GG, just as my last pylon was razed off the map and I was eliminated.
