Me: Terran Enemy: Random Real-time Field Report from Terran Marine #17,845: "These were the trying times indeed. Here we were, dropped onto some God-forsaken plateau to secure a Temple, some alien shrine that had absolutely nothing to do with any god of ours, and without any hint as to what enemy lay in wait for us out there in the jungle. "The SCV's that had been sent along got to work immediately, carving chunks of minerals from the patches out behind our Command Center, depositing their cargo and then returning for more. None of us wanted to be an SCV, but we realized the importance of their role within our war machine. "The eighth worker to emerge from the CC, Larry I think his name was, came with orders to start construction of a depot to accomodate the swelling number of personnel that was arriving on the scene. Number nine started a barracks and number ten went to work on the mineral patches. "As soon as the barracks was done number nine was sent out into the unknown to gather info on the land... and its inhabitants. "We had been dropped on a ledge somewhere in the west, that much we knew. And so #9 headed due south first to make sure there were no enemy encampments there to threaten us. "His reports confirmed nothing in the south. "Another barracks had been under construction at home and our little band of steadfast marines was becoming a squad. One after the other emerged to join their brethren in overwatch at the top of the ramp that lead to us. "#9 was well on his way to the eastern side of the area when the report came in that he had located what appeared to be a sticky, mucous-like substance on the ground before him. "Creep. And where there was creep there was Zerg. Go in Number 9! "And that he did. With the turbines of his Space Construction Vehicle churning maximum power he went in. "#9 was a brave little man, he reported back that he had, indeed spotted a Zerg hatchery in the distance, down by the minerals there and that he was on his way up the ramp that would surely reveal an infestation of slimy, filthy Drones. He was struck only once by the grasping roots of a sunken colony and was able to make it up alive. "He stumbled up the slope and a Zerg Lair towered before him. "'Move out!' Eight of us there were, proud and primed, ready to fight and die together. And we moved out, like that big, loud guy had told us to. "#9 had dove headlong into the Zergs slave-wasps and had met his fate at the hands of numerous, Drone-inflicted wounds. He would be remembered as a mighty SCV. For a little while any way. "The sunken colonies had been set back a ways according to the reports and were not within very good striking distance of the ramp. We would bypass them instead of taking them head on and hopefully catch the Zergs main completely off guard and undefended. "So across the landscape we went and somehow I knew that we were marching to our graves but yet we awaited our fate with eagerness, embracing our chance for glory. In the distance exotic creatures howled and moaned. Man, I had to pee. "Upon arrival we were greeted by not two but four sunken colonies, an extra pair had been rooted deep within the creep, closer to the ramp but we didn't stop nor did we fire even one shot. We just ran. All around me I could hear the powerful thrusts from the tentacles reaching up to take their toll on us before slipping back into the earth to emerge somewhere else. Perhaps beneath me. Somewhere behind me Jed screamed and I knew that he'd been taken, dragged down beneath the ground to be dismantled or digested or whatever those things do to you down there. Three more of us were hit but survived and in all we made it up the ramp with only one loss. "Seven pissed marines we were. Seven marines with full clips and nothing between us and all those smelly dones that had killed Whats-His-Name. "We let loose. Boy, did we let loose. We carved our initials into worker and Overlord alike. Whatever was within our range. Up by the Lair we could see the cocoons pumping and oozing, giving birth to vile Zerg offspring. "The Zerglings couldn't get a claw on us in the small droves that they came in but they got smart eventually and amassed from both hatcheries before making counterstrikes against us in attempts to drive us out of their lifeline. Micro management on our behalf allowed us to live yet a while longer as we began pulling our lead men back if they were attacked. "But we grow short of ammo now and the Zerglings come in greater number every time, I fear the end is near for us. I can only hope we are remembered as brave soldiers who gave our lives for the good of humanity." Eventually the boys were routed, overran by many gnashing teeth and tearing claws and they all died with glory, their job being more than done. We'll never forget them. Hey, wheres the donuts? The wounded Zerg tried to recover by going Mutalisk but it was too late. The Terrans barracks equalled four by now and replacements had been swelling. A great factroy sat in their base and had kicked out two tanks. Command had been working while the boys were at play. They mustered their forces and began the final descent upon the enemy, leaving behind only one bunker by each CC. A horde of marines, two tanks and three valkyries they were. And the ground shook beneath their war march. The Zerg could feel the reverberation of that march. All the way to the front door of the enemy. They came and they set up siege and pushed back the two forward colonies, giving the second wave of marines a chance to raid the Zergs main for the second time today. Mutalisks retreated from the infantry and swooped around to knock out the vulnerable tanks but it was already too late. The stimpacks were buzzing and the Zerg main was falling. Marines chased retreating Drones down to the lower hatchery and cut through the last of the defenses there. GG's were exchanged and the game was over.
