I will try to limit the crapiness. I played my first ladder game on War2 2day. It was on Plaines of Snow. I was human at aprox. 2:30. My Opponent, -=Time=-, or something like that was also human, he was at the 12:30 position.
I started off with the town hall, as is required. I placed it just over the minimum distance from the mine. I then proceeded to build 2 farms in succession. Pumping out peasants once the first farm was completed. After the farms were completed, started construction of 2 rax. All the while training more peasants. Need to get the gold & lumber coming in steady. Once I had 6 footman, I started the lumbermill & blacksmith. Archers & ballistas are important to my style of combat. I figured if I had enough resources pooled, I would upgrade to keep then.
When I had 3 archers trained, I sent a footman out to look around. He was ordered north first, as I generally go counter clockwise in my recon. Damn, can't set waypoints. Means I will have to monitor him closely, no sending him on his way until he dies. Argh, stupid footman got stuck in the trees. Fortunatly -=Time=- was there to help him out by killing him with a guard tower. Looks like I found him.
After a 2 second period of morning, I respond to the death of my warrior by sending the 12 footmen & 4 archers north to the 12:30 position, hoping it was not an early expansion. It was not, I stuck the mother lode. He had 3 guard towers up, which hurt my troops somewhat. But what really surprised my were the knights he had. Oh crap, I still had not upgraded. Oh well. After knocking down a few buildings & killing most of his troops, he was able to finish off my initial assult.
He then says "nice rush". I think to myself, not enough time to get knights before he will jump all over me because I still have not upgraded to keep. So instead of taking the teching up option, I decide to use the tech that I have & double to amount of barracks I have. I start production on 2 ballistas, damn forgot to make more farms. That seems to be a problem for me.
I take the mixed group of footmen & archers to just outside his base & wait for the ballistas to finish. I order them to the start position between us to knock down a couple of his towers & any buildings within range. My boys then charge into base attacking anythin with range. All the while, I am continuing training troops back home. I just kept ordering them into the fray. I recall use of the term "macro like a whore". That would fit. Actually, more like a really cheap whore, not a high priced one. GGs were exchanged & he left. He never got anybody out of his base to find me.
Lessons learned:
1. Don't try to tech up without knowing what your opponant is doing.
2. Starcraft experience does crossover. I have over 500 games under various names with about 80% wins, so I know some tactics & strategy.
3. Keep them off balance. The ballistas off to the side were getting free shots in.
4. Show no mercy, keeping sending more warriors in to battle.
5. I suppose, morally it was a smurfing (see # 2). But, he did try some intimidation in chat by saying he had played several ladder games. I checked the ladder records later, he had played several, but they were all losses. It might have worked, if he got the first attack in. |
